Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Are There Really Ghosts in the World?

Wu Ming agreed immediately, without a second thought. Her account was already doing well, and Jiang Li had asked for her help in finding someone.

This would only benefit her, with no downside.

Besides, with a lucky star like Jiang Li around, she was full of confidence!

Seeing that Wu Ming hadn’t refused, Jiang Li scheduled a time with her before heading home.

When she got back to Qiao Siyuan’s place, she opened the door to find him lounging around like he owned the place.

Jiang Li couldn’t help but frown. ’Has Wu Xueyan’s fighting spirit weakened now that she’s pregnant?’

’I’ve provoked them so much, yet they haven’t started turning on each other.’

’This is taking way too long.’

"Lili, you’re back. Where did you go?"

Qiao Siyuan stood up as he saw Jiang Li walk in and asked.

"Just out for a walk," Jiang Li replied casually.

"Jiang Li’s back! You must be hungry. Come and eat," Chen Xiufang said, walking out of the kitchen. ’Honestly, I didn’t want to come, but I have to make sure Jiang Li puts on that talisman first.’

Chen Xiufang glanced at Qiao Siyuan. He stepped forward and asked, "Lili, did you put on the peace charm I gave you last night?

I had it specially blessed just for you. It’s supposed to be very powerful."

Jiang Li took it out. "Oh, my. How could I possibly wear something so precious?"

As she spoke, Jiang Li slipped it directly over Chen Xiufang’s head.

"AHHHH!"

Chen Xiufang turned pale with fright. She hastily ripped the object from her neck and threw it on the ground. "Jiang Li, what do you think you’re doing?!"

Chen Xiufang’s heart pounded in terror, and a wave of nausea washed over her. Her voice trembled as she stared at Jiang Li. ’This thing... this thing is an object of great misfortune! The master said it can’t be worn carelessly—it’ll destroy one’s karmic virtue.’

Jiang Li looked at her, feigning innocence and confusion. "Isn’t this a peace charm? Si Yuan said he’s such a filial son and went through so much trouble to get this. It’s only right that you should wear it.

Unless... this isn’t a peace charm?"

Jiang Li narrowed her eyes at Chen Xiufang.

It took Chen Xiufang a long moment to catch her breath. When Jiang Li had suddenly placed it around her neck, she’d nearly been scared to death.

"No, no, Lili, don’t overthink it. This was made especially for you. If Mom wears it, the meaning just isn’t the same."

Qiao Siyuan quickly picked it up and stuffed it into Jiang Li’s hand. Seeing Chen Xiufang still gasping for air, he grew puzzled himself. ’What in the world is this thing? Why is Mom so terrified of it?’

Jiang Li raised an eyebrow, reached out to take it, and said nothing more.

"Si Yuan, how about you take me to the hospital for a check-up?"

Qiao Siyuan looked at Jiang Li and swallowed. In all the years he’d known her, he had never once taken her to the hospital.

Seeing the questioning look on her face, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and nod. "Okay."

"Then let’s go."

Jiang Li had been back for less than two minutes before she turned and left again.

Qiao Siyuan looked at Chen Xiufang. They were supposed to take Wu Xueyan for her prenatal check-up today. ’Could Jiang Li be doing this on purpose?’

’Impossible. She and Little Xue have never even met.’

After the two left, Chen Xiufang’s tense body suddenly relaxed, and she couldn’t help but start wailing from the fright.

Wu Xueyan was at home waiting for Chen Xiufang and Qiao Siyuan to take her to the hospital, but after waiting a long time, neither of them had returned.

She couldn’t help but get angry. ’Ever since Jiang Li came back, they’ve been paying less and less attention to me.’

Wu Xueyan picked up her phone to call Qiao Siyuan, but after several attempts, he didn’t pick up.

Finally, she had no choice but to call Chen Xiufang. "Hello, Mom? Where are you and Qiao Siyuan? Weren’t you supposed to take me for my prenatal check-up today?"

Hearing Wu Xueyan’s words, Chen Xiufang finally snapped out of it and scrambled up from the floor. "Little Xue, I’m coming over now. Si Yuan took that bitch Jiang Li to the hospital."

"What! Jiang Li must be doing this on purpose!"

Wu Xueyan’s shrill voice came from the other end of the line.

"Oh, Little Xue, don’t be anxious. Everything we’re doing is for the baby, right? Mom’s on her way to you now."

Chen Xiufang quickly left the house to find Wu Xueyan.

After arriving at the hospital with Qiao Siyuan, Jiang Li headed for the psychiatry department, with him trailing behind her. He stared at the words on the sign.

Qiao Siyuan’s heart started to pound. He felt unusually nervous.

After a short wait, Jiang Li emerged and handed Qiao Siyuan a bill.

He took it and glanced at the amount. "Ten thousand?"

’What kind of medicine costs ten thousand?!’

"Is there a problem?" Jiang Li looked up at Qiao Siyuan.

Qiao Siyuan swallowed. "Ahem, no, no problem. Lili, you wait here. I’ll go pay."

As soon as Qiao Siyuan turned his back, he started cursing inwardly. ’Treating mental illness is damn expensive.’

Jiang Li watched Qiao Siyuan with her arms crossed, then suddenly noticed two people entering the hospital. Seeing Chen Xiufang and Wu Xueyan, she followed them.

"Wu Xueyan?" Jiang Li crossed her arms and blocked their path.

Chen Xiufang looked at Jiang Li and nervously stepped in front of Wu Xueyan. "Jiang Li, you... you listen to me."

When Wu Xueyan saw Jiang Li, her pupils dilated. ’It’s only been a few months, how did Jiang Li get so much prettier?’

’Her skin was as smooth as a peeled egg, but her eyes... they looked unsettling. Not at all like the stupid girl she used to be.’

"Wu Xueyan, so you’re pregnant? I see. Being pregnant really changes a person." Jiang Li touched her own face.

"It’s only been a few months, and you’ve already gotten fat."

Jiang Li’s gaze swept down Wu Xueyan’s body, and she clicked her tongue a few times. "Tsk, tsk."

Wu Xueyan’s face went pale. Ever since getting pregnant, her figure had been ruined, and due to hormonal changes, her whole appearance had changed completely.

Chen Xiufang and Qiao Siyuan always doted on her, but this bitch Jiang Li actually dared to say such a thing to her face.

"Jiang Li, you psycho, how dare you say that to me!"

After paying the bill and picking up the medicine, Qiao Siyuan came out and couldn’t find Jiang Li. He anxiously started looking everywhere, then he suddenly heard Wu Xueyan’s voice.

When he looked over, he saw Wu Xueyan and Jiang Li standing face to face, and his heart skipped a beat.

"Jiang Li, Lili, why did you wander off?" Qiao Siyuan composed himself, stepped forward to pull Jiang Li’s arm, and looked at her with a concerned expression.

A flash of disgust flickered in Jiang Li’s eyes. She then looked at him. "Si Yuan, why didn’t you tell me Wu Xueyan was pregnant?

Look how pitiful. She’s here for a prenatal check-up, and none of her family is with her. Her man must be a real piece of work."

The expressions on their faces froze. Qiao Siyuan and Chen Xiufang looked especially grim.

"Heh... heh... yeah, you’re right," Qiao Siyuan said, forcing a twitch of his lips. He didn’t dare to even glance at Wu Xueyan.

Wu Xueyan stared at the unresponsive Qiao Siyuan, absolutely livid.

"Wu Xueyan, why are you looking at Si Yuan? Don’t tell me the baby is his?"

Qiao Siyuan’s heart instantly tightened. "Lili, don’t talk nonsense. I already told you, there’s nothing between me and Wu Xueyan anymore. If her husband found out, he’d be angry."

Wu Xueyan stared at Qiao Siyuan in shock.

Qiao Siyuan quickly pulled Jiang Li away.

"Lili, I’ve got some work to do back at the office. I have to go."

Qiao Siyuan dropped Jiang Li off at home, then bolted out the door after making a hasty excuse.

Jiang Li sat calmly in the living room, her thoughts on the ’little thing’ attached to Wu Xueyan. She took out her phone and called Wu Ming.

"Hey, Wu Ming, let me ask you a question. Are ghosts real?"
