Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Night Raid on the Police Station

When she fully awoke and looked closely again, there was nothing there.

Jiang Li looked at the talisman beside her and tried again, but there was no result.

’Could I be hallucinating?’ she wondered.

Jiang Li shook her head and got up to take a shower.

When she came out, Qiao Siyuan was just walking out of his room. A flash of delight crossed his face the moment he saw her.

He knew last night’s plan had succeeded. Jiang Li was his now.

As for the bruises on his body, he figured Jiang Li had scratched him while struggling, but those were minor details.

"Lili."

Seeing Qiao Siyuan approach, Jiang Li’s eyes instantly turned red. "Qiao Siyuan, you bastard, stay away from me!"

Jiang Li’s visceral reaction only confirmed Qiao Siyuan’s belief that he had truly gotten her.

"Jiang Li, from now on, you belong to me. Don’t even think about running. Who else would want you after me?

Behave yourself, understand?"

His success made Qiao Siyuan instantly arrogant, as if he’d completely forgotten the time Jiang Li had scared him out of his wits.

Jiang Li frowned in displeasure. A jolt of panic shot through Qiao Siyuan, and he couldn’t help the lingering fear that crept back in.

"Ahem, Jiang Li, you should get some rest. It’s getting late, I’m heading to work."

Qiao Siyuan glanced at his phone nearby and saw that it was off, but he still snatched it and left, having no intention of looking after Jiang Li at all.

Jiang Li glanced at the time. It was only four in the morning.

Qiao Siyuan happily went to the house out back and knocked on the door.

"Mom, Little Xue, I’m back."

The moment Qiao Siyuan knocked, the door was yanked open. Wu Xueyan stood there, her eyes red with anger, and slapped him across the face.

"Qiao Siyuan, you have the nerve to come back? Why didn’t you just sleep over at Jiang Li’s place?"

"Hey now, Little Xue, don’t be mad. Didn’t we agree on this from the start? We’re doing this for the baby."

Qiao Siyuan coaxed Wu Xueyan as they walked inside.

Hearing the commotion, Chen Xiufang also came out of her room. "Son, how did it go?"

"It worked, Mom. I’m back to get some sleep."

As he spoke, Qiao Siyuan walked toward the bedroom, one hand on his lower back. ’Why haven’t I recovered yet? Even when things got wild with Wu Xueyan, it was never this bad.’

Seeing him walk while holding his back, Wu Xueyan’s anger flared. ’That bitch Jiang Li! Did she drain Qiao Siyuan dry?’

After Qiao Siyuan left, Jiang Li took the talisman, went downstairs, and hailed a cab to the police station.

Huo Qing was resting in his office when one of his men came to tell him Jiang Li had arrived. He shook his throbbing head.

"Jiang Li?"

He glanced at the clock on the wall. Four in the morning? It had only been a little over two hours since she’d sent the photo.

’Did she not sleep at all?’

Huo Qing started walking out. Halfway there, he told the officer behind him to wake up Lu Xingye too. It would be awkward for him to meet her alone.

Jiang Li was sitting on a chair, hugging her belongings. She looked over when she heard the footsteps.

Huo Qing looked at her, puzzled. "Do you have a new lead?"

Hearing that Jiang Li had arrived, Lu Xingye threw off his blanket and ran over, his hair a mess and his eyes squinting with sleep.

"Jiang Li, what are you doing here in the middle of the night?"

Jiang Li looked at the two of them. "Can I sleep here?"

Hearing her words, Lu Xingye’s eyes widened slightly. "Oh, oh, of course."

"Brother Huo, have someone find a place for Jiang Li to sleep. She’s probably too scared to sleep because of her dream."

Lu Xingye said, feeling light-headed. Just half an hour ago, he had identified a target based on the information Jiang Li provided and handed it off to his team. He had only been asleep for a few dozen minutes and could barely stay awake.

Huo Qing nodded and had a break room cleared out. "Miss Jiang, you can sleep in here."

"Thank you."

Jiang Li put her things to the side, lay down on the folding cot, and fell asleep in seconds.

Huo Qing watched her fall asleep so quickly, feeling a pang of envy.

"Before, whenever Jiang Li had those dreams, she’d sleep at the station. Said she couldn’t sleep at home. Brother Huo, I’m going back to sleep too."

Lu Xingye yawned, walked back to his desk area, and fell asleep with his head on the desk.

Huo Qing checked the time and went to ask about the investigation’s progress.

"Have you found the victim?"

"Captain Huo, we’ve currently identified three men who match the criteria. Here is their information."

Huo Qing took the files and glanced at them. "Tomorrow morning, have someone go to their addresses and see who isn’t home."

"Right."

After giving his orders, Huo Qing also went back to catch a bit more sleep.

Jiang Li slept until dawn. She sat up, stretched, and then headed out.

"You’re awake? Have some breakfast, it’s still warm. Brother Huo and the others have confirmed the victim’s information and are now zeroing in on the suspect."

Lu Xingye walked over and placed the breakfast he’d bought in front of her.

"Thanks." Jiang Li took it and started eating.

Lu Xingye sat down beside her. "Brother Huo asked Wu Ming to use the information about the snake and the cat to divine the lab’s location."

Jiang Li paused mid-bite and looked at him doubtfully. "Can... can she really figure it out that way?"

Lu Xingye leaned back. "After the precedent you set, Brother Huo is willing to believe anything now, as long as it helps us find the criminal."

Just as Lu Xingye finished speaking, Wu Ming walked in from outside, looking utterly dejected.

"I got it wrong again, waaaah..."

Huo Qing followed behind her. "Your skills are still lacking. We should have your master do the calculations."

Wu Ming puffed up her cheeks and glared at Huo Qing. "That’s not true! I’m amazing too!"

Huo Qing facepalmed in resignation.

When Wu Ming saw Jiang Li, her eyes lit up. She zipped over and sat beside her. "Jiang Li, quick, give me some of your good luck.

Good luck come, good luck come, good luck come from every side..."

Seeing Wu Ming act this way, Jiang Li couldn’t help but laugh. "Where were the locations you divined? You can tell me about them."

Wu Ming glanced at the soup dumplings on the table and swallowed, her mouth watering. She hadn’t eaten breakfast either.

Jiang Li handed one to her.

Wu Ming looked at her with immense gratitude, took it, and started eating.

Huo Qing looked at the documents in his hand, then selected a few pages and placed them in front of her.

"We went in and searched these two locations but didn’t find anything out of the ordinary."

"What about basements?"

Huo Qing looked at her and shook his head. "We asked the person in charge of construction. No basements."

Jiang Li nodded thoughtfully. "Then, what about the eyes? Any matches?"

Huo Qing thought for a moment. "Yes. We’ve already sent someone to bring her in."

"An’an, why are the police looking for you?"

Xia Zhiqi looked at her best friend.

A flash of irritation crossed Luo Anan’s eyes. "How should I know? Isn’t the animal abuse case already over?

Why are they still pursuing it? Don’t tell me they think I was involved too?

I’m allergic to cat fur. I’d have to be sick in the head to do something like that."

"Alright, alright, An’an, don’t be angry. The police probably just want to ask a few questions."

Xia Zhiqi felt bad seeing her hot-tempered best friend so upset.

"Miss Luo, this way, please."

Luo Anan was led to an interrogation room by one of Huo Qing’s men.

Xia Zhiqi paced back and forth anxiously outside.

Jiang Li walked up to Xia Zhiqi. "Miss Xia, you and Miss Luo seem to be very close."
