Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Extraordinary Luck with Human Tissue

Qin Shu scraped off the red oil, and an eyeball was instantly revealed.

Staring at the thing in Qin Shu’s hand, Jiang Li couldn’t stop herself from retching again. "BLEGH!"

Fan Zhenkai and the others strode over abruptly.

Fan Zhenkai’s expression changed as he looked at the object in Qin Shu’s hand. He immediately had someone follow up on the takeout order.

Zhao Shuo quickly poured Jiang Li a glass of water. "Miss Jiang, are you okay?"

Jiang Li took the glass and had a couple of sips, then shook her head at him. ’Okay? How could I possibly be okay? The thought that I’ll have to take a bite later...’

Jiang Li’s stomach churned violently. All the color drained from her face as she leaned back in her chair, utterly exhausted.

Jiang Li wanted to cry but had no tears. ’What kind of shitty luck do I have?’

Seeing the situation, Lu Xingye quickly handed Jiang Li’s takeout to Qin Shu as well. "We’ll have to trouble you with this, Forensic Doctor Qin."

Qin Shu smiled and nodded. She glanced at Jiang Li before taking the takeout containers to begin processing them.

When Ji Qinghe heard the news and rushed over, she found Jiang Li sitting on the sofa. It was clear she’d had a bad fright.

"Miss Jiang won’t eat. She gags at the mere sight of food. What are we supposed to do?" Zhao Shuo said, hurrying over to Ji Qinghe.

He had bought some food nearby, but the moment he brought it to Jiang Li, her face changed and she started dry-heaving again.

’She has to eat, doesn’t she?’

Ji Qinghe looked at Jiang Li’s deathly pale face. "Jiang Li, why don’t you come to my place? I’ll cook for you."

Jiang Li took a few deep breaths. "I’m fine, Officer Ji. I was just a little shaken, that’s all."

’It’d be safer to go home and cook for myself.’

Soon, Qin Shu emerged with a solemn expression, holding a lab report. She met their expectant gazes and nodded.

"But we’ll have to wait a bit longer to confirm if it’s from the same person."

"After all, it’s been cooked. Just like with the previous bone fragments, extraction is difficult. We can’t even guarantee we’ll be able to get a viable sample."

After finishing, Qin Shu glanced at Jiang Li, then walked over and extended her hand. "Hello, I’m Qin Shu. It’s a pleasure to meet you."

Jiang Li looked up at her, forcing a smile onto her pale face. "Hello, Forensic Doctor Qin."

Qin Shu sat down beside Jiang Li. In truth, just like everyone else, she was extremely curious about her.

She’d never encountered anything so unbelievable in her entire life. But this was now the third time. Even if she was a skeptic, she couldn’t help but believe that Jiang Li really possessed this ability.

Jiang Li spent the whole morning at the station, quietly watching the officers investigate. She suddenly noticed Xu Wan’s mother pacing back and forth outside the entrance, looking as if she were wrestling with a decision.

Seeing that the officers were all busy, she got up and approached the woman. "Hello, did you think of an important clue?"

Zhang Qiao Hua jumped, startled by the sudden voice. She gave Jiang Li a suspicious look but walked inside anyway.

The one taking her statement was Zhao Shuo, the same officer from the morning.

"Officer, I... I have something to say, but I don’t know if I should..."

"Mrs. Xu, please, just tell us," Zhao Shuo said with a friendly smile.

Zhang Qiao Hua kept wringing her hands. Zhao Shuo didn’t rush her, just waited patiently.

"It’s just... my daughter... she had an affair. Could it be the other man?"

Zhao Shuo scribbled furiously. "Do you know the name of this other man?"

"His name is Gu Qiliang. He was Wanwan’s boss before. I only found out by accident." After speaking, Zhang Qiao Hua heaved a heavy sigh.

"Wanwan and Qinghe had a good relationship. But about a year ago, I was out grocery shopping and saw those two pulling and shoving each other."

"When I asked about it later, I found out..."

Zhang Qiao Hua couldn’t stop sighing. If they weren’t so desperate, who would willingly air their own family’s dirty laundry?

After finishing his notes, Zhao Shuo looked up. "Mrs. Xu, did Miss Xu not have a good relationship with her child?"

Zhao Shuo had voiced the same question that Jiang Li had earlier.

"Well... sigh... When he was little, An’an really adored Wanwan. Later, Wanwan became too strict in raising him. But there’s no such thing as a lasting grudge between a mother and son. After Wanwan disappeared, An’an was heartbroken."

Zhao Shuo asked several more questions.

Just then, the sound of urgent footsteps came from the doorway. Zhao Qinghe saw Zhang Qiao Hua inside and breathed an instant sigh of relief.

"Mom, why did you come here all by yourself? You scared me to death! We still have no news about Wanwan. If you went missing too, how would I ever explain it to her when she’s back?"

Zhao Qinghe grabbed Zhang Qiao Hua’s arm, the worry in his eyes unmistakably genuine.

"I just came to ask for an update." Zhang Qiao Hua looked at Zhao Qinghe, her own heart aching for him. Ever since her daughter disappeared, her son-in-law hadn’t had a single good night’s sleep.

"Rest assured, Mr. Zhao. We will inform you the moment we have any news. You both should try to get some rest."

"Thank you." Zhao Qinghe helped Zhang Qiao Hua up. "Mom, let’s go. Dad is worried sick about you."

Jiang Li walked over to Zhao Shuo and glanced at his notes.

Looking at Xu Wan’s photo, she felt it was the same woman from her dream, but on closer inspection, something was different.

"Are you leaving, Miss Jiang?" Zhao Shuo asked, looking at Jiang Li. He suddenly felt reluctant to see her go.

"Yeah. I can’t be of any help here, so I’ll be heading home."

"Alright. Be safe on your way."

Zhao Shuo still had to get this new information analyzed, and he also had to look into that Gu Qiliang.

Jiang Li took some bread out of her bag, eating as she walked. She passed a park and sat down on a bench to enjoy the breeze.

Suddenly, a small dog appeared, carrying something in its mouth, and started gnawing on it beside her bench.

Jiang Li glanced down out of curiosity. The little yellow dog had pinned something beneath its paws. Just as she was about to look away, she suddenly spotted an exposed finger bone.

Jiang Li shot to her feet, which instantly scared the little yellow dog away.

Staring at the partial hand on the ground, Jiang Li’s heart pounded as she fumbled for her phone. "Hello? Officer Ji? I found—no, a little yellow dog found half a hand. Can you send someone over?"

"I’m at... I’m at the neighboring park, by the pond."

Jiang Li wanted to look away, but she was afraid the evidence would disappear. She had no choice but to steel herself and keep her eyes on it.
