Chapter 243: _Keep His Boyfriends In One Piece
Meanwhile, as the members of the Pantheon tried confirming who the intruders were—said intruders navigated the hallways in search of one person.
Ambrose.
Gabriel shut down the portal they came through with a flick of his wrist. Valentine took the lead, moving forward while Viktor raised a hand beside him.
By clenching his fist the ice Prince sent a burst of frost through the hallway. The cameras on the walls short-circuited, sparking a few times before turning off.
"This looks like a military base," Devon was the first to speak. "Mostly anyway."
"And that’s only pushing the possibility of Josiah being involved in this." Viktor chimed, head angling to Valentine. "Right?"
The Necromancer didn’t answer.
His focus was fixed on the Necrotic Mark.
His tether with Ambrose.
Through it, he was able to get a clear picture of where exactly the Guide was.
But there was a problem.
Or more accurately... five.
"I don’t know," he finally responded. "Something isn’t right. And we’ve got company..."
"Yeah, I can sense them too." Gabriel nodded, his iridescent orbs glowing. "Their aether signatures. That feels like they’re—"
Suddenly alarms began blasting through every hallway in the facility. The lights turned crimson.
"Shit." Devon cursed. "They know we’re here."
"Then we better make this quick." Valentine’s shadow elongated in front of him.
A small creature that looked like the amalgamation of a spider and a lizard emerged. That confused the others until the thing crawled to Valentine’s palm.
"Find Ambrose and tell him we’re here." He whispered, releasing it.
The creature hopped, crawling on the walls while shifting from one shadow to the other.
With that taken care of, Valentine looked back at the others. "Let’s do this."
★★★★★
Back in the pantheon’s chamber, Ambrose had already figured out who the intruders were.
’Crap.’ he thought to himself as his eyes skimmed through the system scan in front of him. ’They’re gonna be toast if they attack the Pantheon.’
He had to warn them.
"Unidentified entities?" Wukong repeated the words of the robotic voice warning them. "Could this be the Void Entity?"
"If it was, then who are the others alongside it?" Loki shook their head. "I’ve got a feeling it’s someone else." Their neck spun to Ambrose.
The others noticed that and swerved their heads to the Guide as well.
Apollo’s forehead creased. "You know who’s behind this."
Rose blinked at him like he’d gone insane. "And what gave you THAT idea?"
"You don’t seem so bothered for someone who’s probably getting hunted."
"Did you expect me to begin screaming?" Ambrose scoffed. "I know even if it’s the Void Entity there’s a high chance it doesn’t leave here with me. Not with you all around."
"Hmph." Yemoja harrumphed. "Don’t get cocky, Guide."
"It’s not cockiness. I just know."
In his head, he’d already come up with a brilliant idea.
Heart sanctuary!
Viktor and Devon’s links could both allow him to communicate telepathically with them now. They might get freaked out at first but like everything before now they should get used to it.
The moment the Pantheon members looked away from him, Ambrose’s eyes dimmed a bit. ’Viktor. Devon—can you two hear me?’
Exerting every last shred of concentration, he focused on his permanent links with them. After a few seconds... The results were positive.
’Rose?’ Devon’s voice came through first. ’Is that really you?’
The corner of Ambrose’s lips curved. ’In the flesh.’
’Thank God!’ Viktor butted in next. ’What the hell happened? How are we hearing your voice right now? Who kidnapped you?’
’One question at a time,’ Ambrose let out the mental equivalent of a sigh. ’It’s the Pantheon. Long story but they aren’t hurting me. So far at least.’
’Wait, what?’
’The Pantheon?!’ Devon’s mental response was so loud that Ambrose almost felt like he was right beside him. ’H–How? What the heck could they possibly want with you?’
’Not quite sure but you two have to be careful. Don’t come charging in. I’d prefer to keep my boyfriends in one piece.’
’I’ll tease you about that sentence later.’ Viktor cut in. ’Valentine and Gabriel are also here. Baba Yaga’s little death pet should be with you any time now.’
Right on cue, Ambrose’s death sense flared.
His eyes darted to the entrance of the room.
A little scaly-ass spider rushed into the room, slipping past the shadows of the Pantheon members. It got to him in no time, hiding itself in his shadow.
’Seen it.’ Ambrose confirmed. ’Be careful. I’ll try telling them that it’s only you guys.’
’And they’d just be cool with that?’
’Just trust me. I’m cutting off communication now.’
Wukong cracked his knuckles just then. "Then I’ll go see what all the fuss is about myself."
He’d barely taken a step when Ambrose yelled out. "Wait!"
The single word immediately drew every eye in the chamber.
Apollo’s gaze sharpened. "You know something."
Ambrose cursed internally but answered regardless.
"These intruders..." he hesitated briefly. "They’re not the Void Entity."
A tense silence followed.
Yemoja folded her arms. "And how exactly would you know that?"
"Because I do."
"What kind of answer is that?" Wukong barked.
Meanwhile, hidden within Ambrose’s shadow, the little necromancy critter remained perfectly still.
Back in the hallway, Valentine listened through its senses without missing a word. His lips curled slightly.
"Looks like he’s talking."
Devon frowned. "About us?"
"Most likely."
Gabriel simply closed his eyes, extending his senses throughout the facility.
Back inside the chamber, Ambrose drew a slow breath.
"I’m certain they’re my people."
The revelation made several expressions darken instantly.
"Your people?" Apollo repeated.
"They came looking for me," Ambrose continued. "They’re probably trying to rescue me."
Yemoja’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "Are you implying you somehow revealed the location of a Pantheon base to random Hunters?"
The accusation hit the room like a hammer.
Even Kali’s expression shifted.
Loki, however, looked entertained.
Ambrose opened his mouth. "No, that’s not what I—"
Space suddenly distorted.
The room folded inward as a circular tear appeared in the middle of the chamber before exploding outward in a wave of silver light.
Several Pantheon members immediately moved.
Then four figures emerged from the portal.
Gabriel arrived first.
Valentine followed.
Devon and Viktor stepped through right behind them.
The atmosphere instantly became suffocating.
For several seconds nobody spoke, moved or blinked.
Then Valentine adjusted his sunglasses and glanced around the chamber. His gaze landed briefly on Ambrose before shifting to the Pantheon.
"Random Hunters?" He echoed with a smirk. "We’re very far from random."
