Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Alright?
Georgia’s hand was also red. "This is what I have to say to you!"
Georgia turned and walked briskly outside.
Justin Sullivan was stunned by Georgia’s slap. This was the complete opposite of what he had imagined.
It took a long moment for him to react, only snapping out of it when Georgia was already a good distance away.
He caught up to Georgia in a few long strides. "Georgia, listen to me!"
Georgia forcefully wrenched her hand away. "Justin Sullivan, I told you not to hurt Selena! You should be saying this to her, not me!"
"Georgia!"
Georgia took a few more steps before realizing Justin was still behind her.
She spun around. "Justin Sullivan, I’m going to find Selena. If you want to explain things to her, then you’re welcome to follow!"
At her words, Justin Sullivan froze, not taking another step forward.
He watched as Georgia hailed a taxi and left.
Justin turned, got back in his car, and called Selena Sheridan.
"Jean, what did I do wrong? Why are you breaking up with me!" Selena Sheridan sobbed on the other end of the line.
"Selena, I’ve told you before, our breakup is between us. Don’t drag my family into it!"
"Justin Sullivan, what do you mean by that?!"
"Selena, don’t go to Georgia. This has nothing to do with her."
Before Selena Sheridan could make any sense of what Justin meant, the line went dead.
Justin Sullivan sat in his car, took out a cigarette, and lit it.
The rearview mirror reflected his handsome face. His sharp brows were knitted tightly, and a somber shadow clouded his eyes.
’He really didn’t want Georgia to go see Selena.’
’Georgia was a soft-hearted person. Seeing Selena cry would surely make her feel guilty, and then there would be no chance of her ever getting together with him.’
Meanwhile, Georgia hailed a taxi and sped toward Selena’s location.
The address Selena had given her was a bar, which took Georgia a long time to find.
When she went inside, she found Selena slumped over a table, crying. Georgia had to look several times before she was sure it was her.
"Selena!" Georgia walked over and hugged her.
Seeing Georgia, Selena Sheridan felt an even greater sense of grievance.
She had just wanted to vent to her best friend, but Justin had scolded her for it.
"Georgia!" Selena hugged Georgia and broke down in tears.
Georgia didn’t know what to say, so she simply patted her on the back in a comforting gesture.
Selena Sheridan was single-minded. Once she had set her heart on Justin Sullivan, her feelings wouldn’t change even after a breakup.
Georgia drank with Selena, staying until she was drunk senseless.
Georgia patted her face. Selena’s eyes fluttered open. Thinking it was Justin, she started to say his name, "Jean..." but before she could finish, she recognized Georgia and started crying again.
"Georgia, I really, really like Jean... Why do you think he broke up with me?!"
"Selena, it’s getting really late. We should go home."
Georgia helped Selena to her feet, draping her arm over her own shoulders.
After paying the bill, she supported Selena’s weight and guided her outside.
In the noisy bar, it was impossible to make out what Selena was muttering.
It wasn’t until they got a taxi and Georgia settled her into the back seat that she could finally make out her words.
Georgia froze, her body going completely stiff. She looked down at the woman who was now passed out on her lap.
Her eyes quivered. Selena’s words were, "I know there’s someone else in Jean’s heart... I just want to know if he’s breaking up with me because of her. Everything was fine when we were in Breccon."
Georgia was stunned for a long time, only snapping out of her daze when the driver asked for their destination. She gave him the address of the Sheridan family estate.
On the way to the Sheridan estate, Selena kept repeating those words over and over.
Georgia heard every single word, and at the same time, her heart ached for Selena.
’She obviously knew Justin’s heart belonged to someone else, so why did she have to love him?’
’Is she the type of person who refuses to turn back until she’s hit a wall?’
Her heart aching, Georgia hugged Selena tighter and felt a dampness spreading on her pants.
’Selena was crying.’
She had never seen Selena so vulnerable. Selena loved to laugh; Georgia had never seen her shed a single tear.
’She must have loved him to death to be in this much pain when he broke up with her.’
At this hour, everyone in the Sheridan household was already asleep.
Georgia took the key from Selena’s pocket and helped her into the house.
Selena was quiet; the alcohol seemed to have worn off for the most part.
But she was still physically weak and needed Georgia’s support.
"Georgia, I’m sorry for all the trouble today," Selena said, lying on her bed with an arm thrown over her eyes to block the harsh light.
"We’re practically sisters. Do you really need to say things like that?" ’Truth be told,’ she thought, ’I’m the one who should feel guilty.’
Several minutes passed in silence.
Selena suddenly sat up in bed. "Georgia, you’re my best friend, right?"
"Of course!" Georgia replied without hesitation.
"Then... will you help me find out who this person in Jean’s heart is? Please?"
"Georgia, you’re practically family to Jean. He might tell you things he won’t tell me. Please, just try to find out for me, okay?" Seeing the hesitation on Georgia’s face, Selena grabbed her hand, promising, "I won’t go looking for her. I just want to see her from a distance. I, Selena Sheridan, don’t think I’m so bad... I just want to know what makes her better than me. Once I see that, I’ll be able to give up for good!"
Selena’s eyes were puffy and red from crying. She looked nothing like her usual, confident self as Miss Sheridan. Instead, her gaze was fixed on Georgia with pleading sincerity.
It made it impossible for Georgia to say no.
She nodded and replied softly, "Okay."
"Thank you! I knew you were the best!"
Selena gratefully threw her arms around Georgia, but Georgia’s heart was filled with a bitter unease.
’If she found out that the person in Justin’s heart was me, what would she think of me?’
It was late and would be difficult to get a taxi, so Selena offered to let her stay the night at the Sheridan estate, but Georgia refused.
’This was the Sheridan estate. Elliot Sheridan might be home.’
By the time Georgia walked out the gates of the Sheridan estate, it was already past midnight, and the buses had long stopped running.
Thankfully, with modern technology, she could call a car from her phone. Otherwise, she might have actually had to walk all the way home.
By the time she got back to her apartment, it was already past one in the morning.
When she opened the door, she saw the living room light was still on.
She had just finished changing her shoes when Nancy Hughes rushed out of her room.
"You’re finally back!"
"What’s wrong?"
"This afternoon, when I came home, there was a man standing right outside our door. He had such a grim look on his face, I thought he was here looking for trouble! But when I opened the door, he said he knew you and wanted to come in and wait. He stayed until midnight before he finally left!"
Nancy wasn’t the type to just let a stranger in. There are too many dangerous people these days, with all sorts of dazzling and irresistible scams.
But Justin Sullivan had an air of nobility and didn’t seem like a bad person. The main thing was, he revealed his identity.
And who was Justin Sullivan? The heir to the Sullivan Family, currently the most prominent family in Portmire. Nancy had seen him in the newspaper during her downtime.
She searched for photos of Justin Sullivan online, then looked at the handsome man’s face before her. It was a perfect match.
So, she let him in.
When Georgia heard it was Justin Sullivan, her tone became unusually serious. "Nancy, if he ever comes looking for me again, don’t let him in!"
"Why?" ’Is he a suitor?’
Nancy blinked curiously, but Georgia offered no explanation, simply dragging her exhausted body back to her room.
Since Georgia wasn’t willing to talk, Nancy knew not to force her. She said goodnight and returned to her own room as well.
