Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Who Is So Lucky to Make Georgia Utterly Devoted (Part 1)

"Even the finest delicacies get old if you eat them too much. What’s wrong with bringing you guys out for some home-style cooking once in a while?" Zane Lennox raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips as he retorted.

"The way you say that, it sounds like you’ve got something else on your mind! Don’t tell me you’ve taken a liking to one of the waitresses here!"

Zane Lennox’s friend could see that he wasn’t really here to eat tonight; he was here to wait for someone.

After all, his eyes hadn’t left his phone for a moment.

Zane Lennox just smiled, saying nothing. He had found out tonight that Georgia Thorne was dining right next door.

Selena Sheridan was very curious about Georgia Thorne’s boyfriend and insisted on meeting him.

Georgia Thorne couldn’t possibly make a non-existent boyfriend appear out of thin air, so she demurred, "He’s really busy with work. We hardly have any time to see each other."

"Not even for a quick meeting? Just how busy can he be!" Selena Sheridan pouted. Her eyes darted around, and then she smiled. "Fine, if we can’t meet him, then give him a call. As your best friend, I have to keep an eye on you. I can’t let you get tricked and swept away by some bad guy!"

"It’s not like my luck is that bad. We went to the same school; he’s a great person," Georgia Thorne said with a small smile.

"So you won’t even make a phone call? Or are you just fooling Selena? Does this person even exist?"

Justin Sullivan’s voice was agitated, a fierce fire igniting in his eyes.

He was desperate to know who Georgia Thorne’s man was.

The moment Georgia Thorne admitted she had a boyfriend, he couldn’t control his emotions.

He put on a good front, but only he knew how jealous he was of the man who could openly possess Georgia Thorne.

Beneath the table, his hand tightened unconsciously, the bones of his knuckles standing out starkly.

But more than jealousy, there was disbelief.

’Georgia Thorne likes me. How could she so easily fall for another man?’

Georgia Thorne’s expression soured instantly, cornered by Justin Sullivan’s words.

She took out her phone. "Fine. I’ll call him right now and let you hear his voice."

Georgia Thorne forced a smile as she scrolled through her contacts. She only had the numbers of three men she knew, and one of them belonged to Justin Sullivan.

The other two were Jared Thorne’s and Elliot Sheridan’s.

The former was impossible, and the latter was even more so.

Georgia Thorne pretended to scroll through her contacts, the palm of the hand she’d slipped into her pocket growing damp with sweat.

’Does he really have to push me this far?!’ fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Suddenly, a sharp corner pricked her palm. She felt around and touched something the size of a business card.

’It’s Zane Lennox’s business card!’

She recalled stuffing Zane Lennox’s business card into her pocket that morning.

Instantly, as if she’d found a lifeline, she stood up. "Excuse me, I’m going to go call him!"

Justin Sullivan met Georgia Thorne’s smiling face, his dark eyes holding a deep, unreadable expression.

Georgia Thorne stood in a corner, quickly keyed in the number from Zane Lennox’s business card, and dialed.

In another private room, a group of friends was clamoring to get Zane Lennox drunk so they could pry out who at the restaurant had caught his eye.

Zane Lennox’s lips were pressed into a thin line, his thick, handsome brows furrowed. His patience was wearing thin.

He was determined to see her tonight.

Even if it meant showing up uninvited!

The next second, Zane Lennox’s phone rang. It was a call from Georgia Thorne.

His foul mood instantly lifted because of the call.

He held the fate of Whitlock’s company in his hands. If Georgia Thorne didn’t want the company to go bankrupt, she had to bow her head to him.

His mood instantly brightened. Ignoring the suggestive smirks from his friends, he picked up his phone and walked straight out of the room.

"Hello."

On her end, Georgia Thorne’s heart was pounding, afraid Zane Lennox wouldn’t answer.

When she heard the cold voice on the other end, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. It was better than him not answering at all.

Little did she know, Zane Lennox had been waiting for this call from her since that morning.

He’d even had his secretary look up her schedule for the evening.

"It’s me, Georgia Thorne."

"Oh? Weren’t you avoiding me? What made you decide to call me today?"

Zane Lennox raised his voice, his gaze fixed on the door of the room next to his. He could just imagine Georgia Thorne’s expression.

Georgia Thorne furrowed her delicate brows. She knew he wasn’t someone to be trifled with. She forced a smile and said, "Zane Lennox, I was wondering if you could do me a favor?"

’When you ask for a favor, you have to be polite.’

Georgia Thorne had never spoken to him pleasantly; she always had her thorns out. It was rare to hear her speak in such a soft tone.

"Is this about the collaboration?" he asked in return.

"No!" Georgia Thorne denied it quickly. She glanced back at Justin Sullivan, then covered her mouth and whispered, "I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend. Just say a word or two to my friends on the phone."

She really couldn’t find any other man. Georgia Thorne was being completely forced into a corner by Justin Sullivan.

Zane Lennox was stunned for a moment. He hadn’t expected this to be Georgia Thorne’s request.

’What is she playing at?’

’Is she trying to take an indirect approach to get on my good side?’

Whatever Georgia Thorne’s motive was, Zane Lennox readily agreed.

Zane Lennox agreed so quickly that Georgia Thorne was taken aback. This didn’t seem like him at all.

"Zane Lennox, just say a line or two on the phone, that’s it. Don’t say anything else!" Georgia Thorne reminded him, still worried.

Georgia Thorne returned to her seat, phone in hand. Selena Sheridan, who had been acting cute with Justin Sullivan, immediately composed herself, sat up straight, and asked, "So?"

"He’s a little shy, so don’t scare him!" Georgia Thorne chuckled, putting the phone on speaker.

She wasn’t sure if betting on Zane Lennox was the right move.

"Zane Lennox, say something. My friends are here!"

"Hello, everyone. I’m Georgia’s boyfriend, Zane Lennox. So this is why you left me all alone tonight. You were out having dinner with your friends."

His deep voice carried a subtle, teasing complaint directed at Georgia Thorne.

"Hello, I’m Selena Sheridan, Georgia Thorne’s best friend," Selena Sheridan said happily.

"Miss Sheridan, a pleasure."

The fact that Georgia Thorne suddenly had a boyfriend had made Selena Sheridan very anxious to vet him.

After hearing his voice, she was even more curious about what this Zane Lennox looked like.

She sighed. "It’s a shame we can’t see you. I’d really love to meet the lucky man who managed to make Georgia fall for him so completely."

Zane Lennox was witty. Even over the phone, he was able to steer the conversation.

Hearing those words, Georgia Thorne gave an unnatural smile.

’It’s just an act.’

"Alright. Where are you? I’ll head over right now," Zane Lennox said unexpectedly from the other end of the line.

It caught Georgia Thorne completely off guard.

"Um, wait, aren’t you busy with work? You should—"

Georgia Thorne spoke hurriedly into the phone, deliberately lowering her voice to give him a subtle warning.

But Zane Lennox paid her no mind. Since Georgia Thorne was the one who made the request, he was going to see it through to the end.

"Georgia, don’t you want me to meet your friends? Or am I just that embarrassing to be seen with?" Zane Lennox said plaintively.

Georgia Thorne was about to hang up, but before she could press the button, a slender hand snatched the phone away.

Selena Sheridan was completely curious about Georgia Thorne’s boyfriend. "We’re at Iris Tolliver! Come on over!"

"Iris Tolliver? What a coincidence. I happen to be here too!"

"Really? Then hurry over! We’re in private room 217. Georgia will be waiting for you."

Selena Sheridan quickly rattled off the room number. Zane Lennox agreed and then hung up.

"Georgia, your boyfriend has a really nice voice."

Selena Sheridan was clearly caught up in her excitement and didn’t notice that the expressions of the two people beside her had changed completely.
