Chapter 48: Chapter 48: The More You Flee, the Tighter I Want to Hold You
She could feel the murderous glares from all the women around her, as if they wanted to tear her apart with their eyes.
’This is crazy!’
Georgia Thorne quickened her pace, rushing into the office building.
Zane Lennox just smiled and got back into his car.
’This way, no other man should have any improper ideas about Georgia Thorne!’
Inside the company, it took only an hour for rumors about the relationship between Zane Lennox and Georgia Thorne to spread like wildfire.
Most people were whispering behind her back, but Georgia Thorne could only pretend not to hear.
There were all sorts of exaggerated versions of the story about her and Zane Lennox; some of what she overheard was so bizarre it was unbelievable.
’What a waste of talent that these women aren’t writing romance novels!’
Georgia Thorne was silently fuming. She had just returned to her desk when her manager called her into the office.
"Still haven’t landed the Lennox Group account?" the manager asked, glancing at her.
Georgia Thorne’s heart skipped a beat. Lennox Group, Zane Lennox... she asked weakly, "Manager, what’s Zane Lennox’s relationship with the Lennox Group?"
The manager put down the file in her hands and looked up.
Nicole Kane was a woman of mature charm. She steepled her slender, fair fingers and rested her chin on them.
With a knowing look in her eyes, she gazed at Georgia Thorne. "I thought that after getting out of Zane Lennox’s car, you would have already known who he is!"
"..."
Georgia Thorne’s eyes widened. ’So Zane Lennox is the CEO of the Lennox Group?’
She had originally thought Zane Lennox was just a high-level executive at the Lennox Group, not that he owned the entire company.
She gasped. ’My attitude toward Zane Lennox this morning was so cold... Does this mean the deal is off?’
Nicole Kane smiled. "If you have a connection, you should use it. Don’t worry about the rumors outside. I believe that the truth will speak for itself."
"No, Manager. I’d rather not," Georgia Thorne said with a firm nod after careful consideration.
"That’s up to you. Just think it over carefully."
As soon as Georgia Thorne left the office, she overheard her colleagues’ fervent gossip.
She sat at her desk, worried, when she received a text message on her phone.
It was from Zane Lennox.
Without even looking at it, she deleted the message.
’I don’t want anything to do with this man ever again.’
That morning, a meeting was held.
When Nicole Kane announced that she was reassigning Zane Lennox’s account to someone else, everyone in the room looked at Georgia Thorne in surprise.
’Didn’t she already hook up with Zane Lennox? Why would she push money away?’
’Or is it that now that she’s landed a sugar daddy, she doesn’t care about this small change?’
Nicole Kane gave the account to Linda Wagner. Afraid she couldn’t handle it alone, Linda requested to form a team and specifically named Georgia Thorne.
Linda Wagner did it on purpose. Before Georgia Thorne even had a chance to refuse, Linda had already finalized the decision.
Linda Wagner moved quickly, soon arranging a dinner with Manager Garrison from the Lennox Group.
Georgia Thorne, dressed in business attire, followed Linda Wagner and two other colleagues into the private dining room.
At the head of the table sat Zane Lennox.
That afternoon, she had claimed she had a client to meet and left before the end of the workday.
Zane Lennox had waited for nearly an hour downstairs from her company before finally leaving.
Zane Lennox was a proud man, respected by all wherever he went.
Being stood up today was the second time Georgia Thorne had humiliated him.
The first time was on a school basketball court.
After meeting her "client," Georgia Thorne had wandered around for a bit before coming to the restaurant to meet up with Linda Wagner and the others.
The moment she saw Zane Lennox, she lowered her head, trying her best to make herself inconspicuous.
But in such a small group, and with Zane Lennox’s attention fixed solely on her, there was no way to hide.
Linda Wagner had dressed up for the occasion, her outfit alluring and seductive. Her objective wasn’t just to close the deal, but also Zane Lennox himself.
Manager Garrison was a shrewd man; he had already thoroughly investigated Georgia Thorne’s background.
He deliberately pulled out the chair beside him and said with a fawning smile, "Miss Thorne, please, sit here!"
Georgia Thorne was just about to pull out a different chair to sit down when she heard Manager Garrison speak.
There was an empty seat next to Manager Garrison, which was also right next to Zane Lennox.
It had clearly been left open on purpose. Georgia Thorne stood there awkwardly, her gaze meeting Zane Lennox’s.
A hint of amusement colored his dark eyes as he casually toyed with the lighter in his hand.
The most awkward person in the room was Linda Wagner. She had wanted to sit next to Zane Lennox, but who would have thought Georgia Thorne would beat her to it?
Given that they were in public, Linda Wagner tugged on Georgia Thorne’s arm. "Manager Garrison is calling you over!"
Linda’s words dripped with suggestive undertones.
It made it sound as if there was something going on between her and Manager Garrison.
In any case, Zane Lennox didn’t say a word while Manager Garrison, off to the side, relentlessly flattered her and pressured her to drink.
Anyone could see that Manager Garrison was deliberately trying to push her toward Zane Lennox.
Normally, a major CEO like Zane Lennox wouldn’t need to show up for such a small deal, but he had come in person.
What did that show?!
Georgia Thorne slowly tightened her grip on her glass. She had already lost count of how many drinks she’d been forced to down.
Fortunately, she could hold her liquor well. Her cheeks were only slightly flushed, and her mind was still clear.
Georgia Thorne sat next to Zane Lennox, while Linda Wagner sat on the other side of Manager Garrison.
The seating arrangement made it clear who was the main attraction and who was the supporting act.
Linda Wagner’s expression was grim, but she had to force a smile.
She secretly clenched her fists, a deep hatred for Georgia Thorne taking root.
’If I had known Zane Lennox would be here today, I never would have requested Georgia Thorne to come!’
It was an incredibly unpleasant meal for Georgia Thorne.
By the time the business dinner ended, Georgia Thorne had drunk a lot of alcohol.
She wanted to take a taxi home. As she was trying to hail one at the entrance, a black car slowly drove toward her.
However, a blue sports car beat it to the punch, pulling up first.
Georgia Thorne stood by the road, dizzy. Having been drinking, all she wanted was to get home as quickly as possible and lie down in her own bed.
"Get in!"
The car window rolled down, revealing Zane Lennox’s face.
Georgia Thorne glanced over. ’Ah, the man who hadn’t said a single word to me all evening.’
"I’m sorry, Mr. Lennox, but I can get a taxi myself."
As Georgia Thorne started to walk elsewhere to find a taxi, Zane Lennox got out of the car.
He grabbed Georgia Thorne’s elbow. "I’m taking you home tonight."
"You already stood me up once. Do you really think I’d let it happen a second time?"
His grip on her wrist was tight, and she couldn’t break free.
Already dizzy, she was pulled by Zane Lennox and, lacking the strength to resist, fell into his arms.
An unfamiliar scent enveloped her. Georgia Thorne couldn’t push him away. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"Georgia Thorne, I told you. The more you run, the tighter I want to hold you. So you’d better not try to escape from me."
Zane Lennox held her in his arms, pulled open the car door, and pushed her inside.
He leaned over and fastened her seatbelt for her. frёeωebɳovel.com
Georgia Thorne’s head was spinning. Exhausted, she leaned back against the seat and closed her eyes.
After fastening the seatbelt, Zane Lennox started the car and drove off.
「In the car behind them—」
Owen Sawyer glanced at his boss in the rearview mirror and saw his expression instantly darken again.
"President, where are we going now?" Owen Sawyer asked, his voice trembling with fear.
In the three years Georgia Thorne had been by Elliot Sheridan’s side, she had, to some extent, changed his personality.
Elliot Sheridan, who had always been so high and mighty, suddenly snapped open his sharp, dark eyes and uttered a single command: "Follow them!"
Owen Sawyer thought he must have misheard. After all, tailing someone wasn’t something Elliot Sheridan would ever do.
Owen Sawyer did as he was told, keeping the car at a steady distance as he followed them.
At the same time, he wondered just how important Georgia Thorne had become in Elliot Sheridan’s eyes.
’Important enough to sacrifice tens of millions?’
Compared to the gloomy, uncertain atmosphere in the black car, the mood inside the blue car was as clear as a cloudless sky.
