Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Zane Lennox, Long Time No See (2)
Georgia Thorne was both confused and surprised to see Zane Lennox.
’Didn’t he go abroad to study? When did he get back?’
The suit he was wearing gave him a certain charm, like that of a successful man, but he still seemed too green.
Georgia struggled a little. "Zane Lennox, long time no see. Can’t we talk about this properly after you let go of me?"
Her voice was light and airy, heavy with the reek of alcohol.
It drifted into Zane’s nostrils, mingled with her feminine scent—an intoxicating combination.
But it also fueled his anger. This version of Georgia Thorne was the kind who entertained other men.
"Georgia Thorne, come with me!" Zane Lennox said, his grip on her wrist tightening.
Georgia found this almost laughable. ’The first thing he says to me at our first meeting in two years is to come with him?’
She gave a placid smile. "Sorry, but I have work to do today. We were classmates, so let’s get together some other time!"
After a month of entertaining clients, although Georgia was still clumsy at navigating these social situations, she had slowly learned a few things.
"Work? Is your work faking smiles for men here, and then sleeping with them?!"
A vein throbbed on Zane’s forehead as he glared at the ungrateful woman. ’I’m trying to save her, doesn’t she know that?!’
Georgia took a deep breath, her gentle expression turning sour.
Her tone couldn’t help but turn cold. "Zane Lennox, please watch your words!"
Zane was still Zane. Even studying abroad hadn’t changed him; his words were as venomous as ever.
"My words? Am I wrong?" Zane sneered. "Are you telling me that Elias Young didn’t force you to drink? That he didn’t lay a hand on you?!"
Elias Young was a notorious scoundrel.
The number of women he’d bedded over the years was not small!
Georgia looked down, telling herself to hold back, to not let her temper flare and slap Zane across the face again.
She still remembered the lesson from last time. Offending Zane Lennox would lead to a miserable end for her.
"...Zane Lennox, regardless of the situation, this is my job. Please don’t interfere in other people’s work."
Georgia’s face tensed. She lifted her gaze to meet Zane’s and spoke slowly.
Right in front of him, she pried his hand open, one finger at a time.
Then she added, "We were alumni, after all. Let’s not make things so tense!"
She brushed back her long hair, turned, and slowly walked away.
Paul Vincent, standing behind Zane Lennox, had watched their heated confrontation. For a moment, he thought things were about to get ugly.
’So they’re alumni,’ he thought. ’The bickering-couple kind, it seems.’
When Georgia returned to the private room, Elias Young immediately sidled up to her again.
Disgusted, she decided to find an excuse to leave.
’I should let one of my male colleagues handle this contract after all.’
"President Young, it’s just my luck, something urgent has come up at home and I need to head back right away. How about we discuss the contract another day?"
Georgia was a Portmire local, and her soft, gentle tone made a man’s heart itch with desire.
In all his years at the dinner table, Elias Young had seen his share of seductive women and fiery spitfires. But a woman like Georgia Thorne, who looked so obedient at first glance, was a true rarity.
He wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip by. "Miss Thorne, you aren’t just making an excuse, are you?"
"Of course not. President Young, it’s a genuine family emergency. Could you perhaps accommodate me?"
"Accommodate you? Sure. If you give me a little taste of something sweet, I’ll be happy to accommodate you!"
Elias Young suddenly leaned in, his breath a foul stench of alcohol.
The smell made Georgia want to vomit, but in Elias Young’s mind, it made him seem manly.
After such a blatant remark from him, Georgia would have to be a real fool not to understand.
Her pale fingers shoved Elias Young away forcefully. Her gentle voice was now laced with iciness. "I’m sorry, President Young. I’m only here to discuss our partnership. I have no other intentions!"
「Meanwhile, in another private room—」
Elliot Sheridan held a cigarette between his fingers, listening absently to his friends chat as the image of a slender figure flashed through his mind.
The cigarette burned down to the filter, and only when he felt the heat sting his fingers did he toss it into the ashtray.
A few minutes later, Owen Sawyer came in from outside, leaned down, and whispered a few words in his ear.
Elliot Sheridan’s expression immediately grew grave.
Dylan Heston shot him a sideways glance. "What’s with the serious face? What happened?"
"I just remembered something I need to take care of first. You guys keep drinking. I’ll be back in a bit!"
Georgia never expected Elias Young to use force on her. Terrified, she quickly scrambled back.
"President Young, I told you I’m only here to discuss the contract!" Georgia said, her back against the bar counter. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Georgia feigned composure, her hand reaching behind her for a wine bottle.
Her heart was POUNDING. ’If Elias Young dares to force himself on me, I’ll smash this bottle over his head and knock him out.’
"Miss Thorne, we’re all adults here!" Elias Young waved his hand dismissively. "Besides, if you sleep with me, you’ll secure this contract immediately. What’s the downside in that?"
Georgia pressed her lips together, speechless at a man so dead set on being a creep.
’I knew it. I never should have come back. I should have just left.’
Elias Young could see it now. On the surface, Georgia Thorne was a gentle person, but deep down, she was quite stubborn.
"Fine, fine. If Miss Thorne isn’t willing, I can’t force her, can I?" Elias Young smiled, holding up his hands and taking a step back.
The man who had been trying to take advantage of her just moments ago had suddenly changed his attitude. Georgia was highly suspicious of his words.
Men were despicable creatures. When they went back on their word, they could completely deny everything they’d said before.
Clutching the wine bottle, Georgia walked toward him, half-believing. "Thank you, President Young!"
She slowly approached her seat, wanting to retrieve her handbag.
She glanced over. ’Damn it, it’s on the chair right next to him.’
"But you should think this through, Miss Thorne. An opportunity like this doesn’t come twice!"
Just as Georgia warily picked up her bag, Elias Young suddenly spoke.
"Thank you for the reminder, President Young!" Georgia breathed a sigh of relief, turned, and walked quickly toward the door.
’Once I walk out this door today, I have no intention of ever discussing this deal with him again.’
But Georgia was, after all, a newcomer. Young and inexperienced.
She thought that when Elias Young said he would let her leave, he actually meant it.
Her hand hadn’t even touched the doorknob when the man behind her pounced like a wolf.
Elias Young was heavy and strong, easily pinning Georgia against the wall.
"Miss Thorne, once you walk through my door, you don’t get to leave so easily!" Elias Young tried to get closer, but Georgia hit him in the face with her handbag.
’I shouldn’t have let my guard down so easily. I shouldn’t have put the bottle back.’
"Elias Young, if you dare lay a single finger on me, I’ll sue you!" Georgia said through gritted teeth.
Elias Young was too fat. The slender Georgia had no hope of pushing the man off of her.
"Sue me?"
As if Georgia had told a joke, Elias Young burst out laughing. "Georgia Thorne, do you think I got to this position for nothing?!"
"Let me be honest with you. You’re not the first woman who’s wanted to sue me. Plenty of the women who’ve slept with me have tried. But what was the result? I’m still standing here just fine. You know why? Because they realized that instead of trying to send me to jail, it was better to please me and get some benefits out of it."
"So, if you’re a good girl and make me feel good, maybe I’ll give you an even bigger profit margin!"
"I won’t! Ah! Don’t touch me!"
Before Georgia could finish her sentence, Elias Young’s mouth came down on hers.
It had been many years since Elias Young became a general manager that he’d come across an innocent little thing like this.
Terrified, Georgia struggled, but a woman’s feeble strength was no match for a man’s. Elias Young grabbed her wrists and pinned them firmly against the wall.
Unable to escape, Georgia began to cry in fear, desperately wishing a man would come and save her.
