Chapter 179: Chapter 169: Wear This Necklace to Tomorrow’s Interview (2)
A wedding in one week!
Sheridan Tower. Owen Sawyer watched Elliot Sheridan emerge from the conference room, then quickly lowered his head in panic, not daring to meet his gaze.
’I wish I didn’t know about this. Should I tell him, or not?’
The news of Georgia Thorne and Zane Lennox’s wedding was sure to cause a huge stir. The president would find out sooner or later.
Owen Sawyer found it increasingly difficult to guess Elliot Sheridan’s intentions. He had clearly broken up with Georgia Thorne in Akashima, yet just two days ago, he’d ordered Owen to have someone watch her every move.
’He must regret it. He wants to get back together with her!’
Elliot Sheridan shot him a cold glance from the corner of his eye. "Speak. What is it?"
Owen Sawyer was rarely out of sorts, so any abnormality was immediately obvious.
Owen Sawyer didn’t dare say it; he didn’t have the guts.
He just turned on the TV, flicked to a random entertainment channel, and let him see for himself.
The news on TV happened to be showing the clip of Georgia Thorne scolding a reporter, telling them not to speak about her mother.
Elliot Sheridan’s expression turned severe. "Which company does that reporter work for?"
The moment Owen Sawyer heard that, he knew the reporter had angered the president.
"I’ll look into it right away!" Owen Sawyer said, using it as an excuse to exit the office.
He clutched his chest. Thank God he’d gotten out of there when he did.
On the TV, Zane Lennox had his arm intimately around Georgia Thorne, announcing their wedding date in front of everyone.
Elliot Sheridan let out a cold laugh. ’A wedding in one week?’
’We’ll see if you even make it through this week!’
Losing interest, he switched off the TV and dialed Owen Sawyer on the intercom.
"Cancel tonight’s dinner with Quincy Rhodes. I have to see someone."
"Yes, I understand!"
Owen Sawyer acknowledged the order, wondering internally if the person Elliot Sheridan wanted to see was Georgia Thorne.
Once the morning’s news broke, some were happy, while others were furious.
The sky, clear and vast during the day, gave way to a drizzling rain by evening.
At 7:45, the drizzle suddenly intensified into a downpour, thrashing against the ground.
The black sky was suddenly illuminated by a flash of white as a bolt of lightning split the distant horizon, followed by a deafening ROAR of thunder.
Zane Lennox had announced his marriage to Georgia Thorne without consulting his parents.
When Zachary Lennox found out, he was so angry he nearly started screaming curses. He immediately called Zane Lennox and demanded he come home.
Zane Lennox sat in the back seat as the car slowly drove into the villa. At the same time, another car was driving out.
The two cars passed each other.
Zane Lennox had his eyes closed, resting, and didn’t notice a thing.
The car stopped in the courtyard, and the butler hurried over, holding an umbrella.
He opened the car door and called out, "Young Master, the Master and Madam have been waiting for you for a long time."
Zane Lennox grunted in acknowledgment, his foot splashing into a muddy puddle as he stepped out. He strode toward the villa.
Inside the villa, it was tranquil, a stark contrast to the wind and rain raging outside.
Zachary Lennox sat fuming in the living room while Meghan Everett tried to soothe her husband.
She was worried Zachary Lennox’s health couldn’t take the strain, but she was also worried about her son’s situation.
Zane Lennox came in from outside and headed straight for the stairs.
Zachary Lennox, furious, banged his cane on the table. "Do you still see me as your father?!"
Zachary Lennox had always doted on his son and trusted him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have handed over full control of the company’s major affairs to Zane Lennox so quickly.
In fact, Zane Lennox had performed exceptionally well, and he was very proud of his son.
Of all the people he could have chosen, he just had to fall for an impossible woman.
Zane Lennox turned around. "I am going to marry Georgia Thorne. There’s no need to say anything more!"
The moment he agreed to Georgia Thorne’s proposal, he had already prepared himself for this.
"What did you say? Say that again if you have the guts!" Zachary Lennox heaved, his chest tight with anger. "If you marry her, then get the hell out of the Lennox Family! I have no son like you."
Zane Lennox shoved one hand in his pocket. "I’ll have the wedding invitations sent over when they’re ready. Whether you come or not is up to you."
"You brat, are you determined to anger me to death?!" Zachary Lennox’s old face flushed crimson.
Meghan Everett quickly supported him, patting his back to help him calm down. "Honey, don’t be angry. Our son doesn’t mean it! Zane, hurry up and apologize to your father. Quickly!"
Meghan Everett blinked rapidly at Zane Lennox, signaling him to back down.
"Mom, you don’t have to say anything either. I am definitely bringing Georgia Thorne into this family!" Zane Lennox said, his expression blank.
With that, he turned and went upstairs.
"Fine! You’re all grown up, your wings have hardened, you have your own ideas now! Do you have any idea what that Georgia Thorne..." In his agitation, Zachary Lennox couldn’t catch his breath. His eyes rolled back, his legs gave out, and he fainted.
"Honey, honey, wake up!" Meghan Everett shrieked in terror. "Someone, help! Quickly!"
Zachary Lennox had collapsed on the floor and wouldn’t wake up, no matter how much she called to him.
Zane Lennox heard his mother’s cries and came back down from upstairs. "What’s wrong?!"
"Zane, your father has fainted! Quick, get him to the hospital."
Zane Lennox hurriedly grabbed Zachary Lennox’s arm and, hoisting him onto his back, ran outside.
Amidst the thunder and lightning, the car sped to the hospital.
After all, Zachary Lennox was getting old, and his health was poor in many respects.
He was rushed into the emergency room. Meghan Everett paced anxiously in the hallway, crying with worry.
Zane Lennox hadn’t expected things to escalate like this. He patted Meghan Everett’s shoulder comfortingly. "Mom, don’t worry. Dad will be okay."
Meghan Everett’s eyes were already red and swollen from crying. "You know your father’s temperament. He responds to a soft approach, not a hard one. If you had just talked to him properly, he wouldn’t have... I don’t even know if he’ll be all right!"
She buried her face in her son’s shoulder and sobbed quietly.
That night, Jared Thorne called to say that Zane Lennox had already invested the capital and guaranteed he wouldn’t touch the grave.
After announcing the wedding, Georgia Thorne holed up in her apartment. It wasn’t until the third day that Zane Lennox called to ask her out.
"Okay, I’ll be there in half an hour." Georgia Thorne hung up and got dressed.
It was Saturday, so Nancy Hughes happened to be home resting.
"Where are you going?"
"Zane Lennox asked me out today. We’re going to take wedding photos."
"PFFT! You’re going to do what?"
Nancy Hughes leaped up from the sofa and rushed in front of Georgia Thorne. "You’re taking wedding photos with Zane Lennox today? Isn’t this all moving a little too fast?!"
She still hadn’t processed the fact that they were getting married, and now they were already taking wedding photos!
Georgia Thorne bent down to change into a pair of comfortable flats. "The wedding is next Saturday. If we don’t take the photos now, when will we?"
"You have a point, but..." Nancy Hughes frowned. She really didn’t want Georgia Thorne to marry Zane Lennox.
She clenched her fists. "I’m going with you!"
"There’s no need!"
"What do you mean, no need! I’m your best friend! Wait for me, I’ll go change. I’ll be right out!"
The decision made, Nancy Hughes dashed into her room to change out of her pajamas.
She was ready in two minutes, rushing out and panting, "Let’s go!"
Half an hour later, Georgia Thorne and Nancy Hughes arrived at the bridal shop.
"You’re here," Zane Lennox said, looking at Georgia Thorne’s pale, colorless cheeks.
’Once I marry her, I’m going to make sure she’s well-fed and healthy.’
’She’s always been too thin!’
Georgia Thorne hummed in response. The man’s hand rested on her shoulder. Although she wasn’t used to it, she didn’t struggle.
She obediently let him keep his arm around her, then turned her head and asked softly, "Did you not sleep well last night? Why do you look so pale?"
Zane Lennox raised his eyebrows. ’This is the first time Georgia has ever shown concern for me.’
His anxious mood inexplicably improved, and the corner of his mouth curved into a faint smile. "I just cleared my schedule to take these wedding photos with you, that’s all."
"Work is more important. We can take the photos anytime."
Georgia Thorne said this lightly, but she felt the grip on her shoulder tighten considerably.
Seeing Zane Lennox’s brow furrow again, she shut her mouth.
Zane Lennox released Georgia Thorne, said a few words to one of the bridal shop assistants, and then led Georgia to the makeup room.
On the way, Georgia Thorne heard the assistants chattering away, mostly saying envious things.
’If they knew my situation, they probably wouldn’t be envious.’
As Nancy Hughes passed by Zane Lennox, she shot him a fierce glare before following Georgia Thorne.
After having her bright bridal makeup done and changing into a pure, beautiful wedding gown, the already lovely Georgia Thorne was now absolutely stunning.
Even Nancy Hughes had never seen Georgia Thorne so elegantly dressed.
She suddenly realized that when Georgia Thorne dressed up, she was breathtakingly beautiful.
The full skirt of her wedding gown trailed on the floor, a sheer white veil covered her head, and a bouquet was clutched in her hand. The staff members present were so stunned by her beauty that they were speechless.
Nancy Hughes’s eyes went wide, and she couldn’t help but exclaim, "Georgia, you are absolutely the most beautiful bride in the world!"
Georgia Thorne smiled, lifting the heavy hem of her dress as she stepped down. "You’ll have a day like this too."
When Georgia Thorne wasn’t looking, Nancy Hughes took out her phone, snapped a candid photo of her, and shared it to her social media feed.
She added a caption: "My best friend’s wedding photos. Absolutely the most beautiful!"
The photoshoot was indoors. The moment Zane Lennox saw Georgia Thorne, he was utterly captivated by her beauty.
A powerful light shone in his eyes. He grasped Georgia Thorne’s small hand and praised her uncontrollably, "Georgia, you’re the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen!"
He couldn’t deny it: the instant Georgia Thorne appeared before him in her wedding dress, he heard a violent tremor coming from his own chest.
He could hardly believe this was real. He was actually going to marry Georgia Thorne.
As the man leaned down, bringing his lips closer, Georgia Thorne’s heart fluttered in panic.
She put a hand against his chest. "Don’t. You’ll smudge my makeup."
Georgia Thorne looked down. Her blushed cheeks were particularly pink, making her seem shy.
Suppressing the impulse in his heart, his voice came out slightly hoarse. "Let’s take the photos first."
"Okay."
Georgia Thorne kept her head down, straightening her dress, not daring to meet Zane Lennox’s burning gaze.
She could accept Zane Lennox’s physical touch, but she wasn’t ready for the intimacy of a kiss.
