Chapter 172: Chapter 165: Broke Up Before Going to Akashima (3)

"Dad, what is it exactly?"

Jared Thorne looked up at her. "Georgia, you’ve been part of this family for so many years. Although I may have paid you no mind, you are still my daughter, and I do care about you, to some extent. Your stepmother is a petty woman. When she first found out I was bringing you home, she tried everything to stop me. But because of my feelings for your mother, I brought you back no matter what she said. I know you’ve suffered a lot over the years, bottling it all up inside with no one to tell, but I was helpless. You know your stepmother’s family is powerful. I have to rely on them to keep the company running. But at the end of the day, you have always been in my heart."

Jared Thorne reached out and took Georgia Thorne’s hand, looking as though he might burst into tears at any moment.

Georgia didn’t understand the point of her father suddenly bringing up the past.

Instead of feeling wronged, she was repulsed by his words.

Ever since that day four years ago, Georgia Thorne had been disappointed in everyone in the Thorne family.

Even her own father, her blood relative.

"Dad, what happened?" Georgia Thorne forcefully pulled her hand from Jared Thorne’s grasp.

Though they were father and daughter, there were no feelings between them. They had never been close.

She had survived all these years of him ignoring her; the present was nothing in comparison.

"Georgia, do you know a man named Mason Morgan?" Seeing no significant emotional reaction in Georgia’s eyes, a harsh glint flickered in his own. "Six months ago, we started doing business together because of your relationship with him."

Georgia Thorne stared fixedly at Jared Thorne—at her own father—her expression blank.

Even without him saying another word, she understood exactly why they had called her here.

Her sinking heart grew colder and colder. Looking at her father’s insincere face, she wanted to laugh.

"Six months ago, we partnered on an investment project. I saw huge potential profits, so I poured all the company’s funds into it, hoping to make a killing and turn our fortunes around. But who could have known the project would go belly-up? The person in charge ran off with all the money..."

"And?"

"The company’s cash flow is frozen, and none of the banks will lend to us. With no other choice, I had to borrow tens of millions from Mason Morgan. But now he wants to pull all his money out!" Jared Thorne paused, his gaze shifting to Georgia. "You and Mason Morgan... Georgia, please, I’m begging you as your father. You’re a part of this family. Do something to help us. After all, nobody wants to see this family torn apart."

Georgia suddenly let out a cold, mocking laugh. "Have you ever really thought of me as your daughter?"

’He brought me here today for one reason and one reason only: to sell me off again.’

’Only this time, he’s learned to be more subtle, to at least inform me first.’

"Even for this family, I will not sell myself!"

Georgia turned and walked out, ignoring Jared Thorne as he slammed his hand on the table and cursed behind her.

A bitter smile touched the corners of her lips as she straightened her back.

Seeing Hayley Sullivan standing at the door, she said coldly, "I can let bygones be bygones, but don’t even think about dragging me into this now!"

"You stop right there!" Hayley Sullivan had a short temper and couldn’t hold it back after hearing Georgia’s words. "You’ve been living in my house, eating my food for free all these years! Now that you think you’re all grown up, you’ve forgotten this family? Let me tell you, whether you want to or not, you’re going to go and keep Mason Morgan company. You’ve already slept with him once, so a second time won’t make a difference!"

"Mom, what are you talking about?!" Lynn Thorne looked at her mother in confusion. ’Sleep with him? More than once?’

Lynn Thorne stared at Georgia by the door in disbelief. ’How could that be possible!’

There was no way Hayley Sullivan was going to let Georgia leave so easily. She lunged forward to grab her, but Lynn Thorne caught her arm. "Mom, calm down!"

Georgia looked scornfully at Hayley Sullivan. ’What a lunatic.’

Without a shred of attachment, she walked out of the Thorne family home.

’I never should have come today.’

Hayley Sullivan screamed her name frantically from behind, but Georgia didn’t stop.

That night, Lynn Thorne called her. "Georgia, is all of that true? Did Mom and Amanda Thorne really do that to you?"

"There’s no point in talking about the past."

"I’m so sorry!" Lynn Thorne apologized sincerely from the other end of the line. "I really had no idea this would happen today, and I certainly didn’t know my mom would do something like that to you. I..."
