Chapter 135: Chapter 131: You Really Want to Be Stubborn with Me?

’Is this his idea of being gentle after such roughness?’

Her suddenly drowsy mind was now wide awake.

After what felt like an eternity, Georgia Thorne finally spoke, her voice muffled. "Elliot, don’t you trust me?"

When Georgia spoke again, her voice had become raspy and soft, tinged with a nasal tone. "Elliot, let’s break up."

She had made it clear last time—one more incident, and they were truly over.

And she was a woman of her word.

"In your dreams!" The man behind her finally spoke, his voice exceptionally vicious. At the same time, his arms tightened around her, caging her in his embrace.

Georgia fell silent, closing her eyes once more.

Elliot’s gaze was locked on the nape of Georgia’s neck, the anger in his chest still building with no release.

When he learned that she had come to this resort with Zane Lennox, he had been so angry he thought he would explode.

He had called again and again, but he could never get through, just like the time she left with Justin Sullivan.

’Did this mean that in Georgia Thorne’s heart, he would never measure up to either Zane Lennox or Justin Sullivan!’

He couldn’t accept it. He was filled with a deep, bitter resentment.

Elliot felt like he might actually be going crazy, getting jealous and flying into a rage over such a small thing.

The night passed quietly, but they both knew that neither of them had slept.

Around six o’clock, the sky outside finally began to lighten.

Georgia threw back the covers and got out of bed.

Elliot had stubbornly held her all night, only loosening his grip as morning came.

She picked up her clothes from the floor and went into the bathroom.

Lying in bed, Elliot opened his eyes, listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom.

He had smoked too much, and his throat was sore.

He sat up, not even bothering to put on clothes, and walked toward the bathroom, his handsome physique on full display.

The door was unlocked, and Elliot pushed it open and walked straight in.

Georgia was scrubbing incessantly at the red marks on her body. When she saw the man enter, her hand paused, and then her pale arm reached for a nearby bath towel to wrap around herself.

She turned off the shower, put on her slippers, and started to walk out.

As she passed Elliot, he grabbed her by the wrist. "Are you really going to be this stubborn with me?"

"Mr. Sheridan, show some self-respect," Georgia said coldly, looking up with red-rimmed eyes.

Last night, she felt, was the time their hearts had drifted furthest apart.

"You suspect me of getting a room with Zane Lennox behind your back, while I suspect you’re entangled with other women. Since we’re both suspicious of each other, let’s end this relationship here." Her hoarse voice was incredibly firm, gone was its usual coquettishness and sweet softness.

She let him grip her wrist as his hold tightened. A pang of pain welled up from the bottom of her heart.

If he hadn’t been so brutally rough with her yesterday, perhaps she would have been willing to explain everything to him.

Now, it seemed, there was no longer any need.

He didn’t trust her, and any explanation would be a waste of energy.

Elliot’s dark eyes were filled with fury. He could tell Georgia was serious, which made him even more enraged.

His grip tightened fraction by fraction. He was waiting for Georgia to beg for mercy, waiting for her to say something.

But this little woman just kept looking at him, her brow not even twitching, as if she felt no pain at all.

Feeling his grip loosen slightly, Georgia smiled a gentle, radiant smile. "Mr. Sheridan, I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase ’parting amicably’ before."

Her small hand covered the back of his, prying his fingers off one by one. Then she turned and walked away.

She swiftly changed into her clothes and saw the man coming out of the bathroom.

She paused. "Elliot, I hope you’ll think this over carefully."

With her bag on her shoulder, she calmly walked out of the elevator, only to see Zane Lennox standing by the door.

She smiled. "Morning."

Zane Lennox’s reaction was a few seconds slow, but then he quietly said, "Morning."

Georgia had never smiled at him like that, much less greeted him proactively.

"Zane, I want to go back. Could you give me a ride?" Georgia hadn’t slept all night and was in a terrible state. She was afraid she’d fall asleep and miss her stop if she took the bus alone.

When Zane Lennox heard her ask "Could you," he glanced away guiltily, then answered, "...Okay!"

In the car, Zane Lennox turned his head countless times to look at Georgia in the passenger seat. Her eyes were closed, as if she were asleep.

Georgia was a bit strange today. In the past, she was always a porcupine around him—all sharp quills, ready to jab.

Georgia slept peacefully for almost the entire two-and-a-half-hour drive.

By the time he pulled up to her apartment building, Georgia’s head still felt heavy.

"Thanks for dropping me off." Georgia pushed the car door, but it didn’t open.

She turned her head to look at the man, her voice even softer. "Could you please unlock the door?"

Zane Lennox gave her a strange look, then unlocked the doors.

But then Georgia suddenly remembered something and sat up straight again.

"I hope you can do what you promised me yesterday. Don’t forget about dropping the lawsuit!"

"Okay!"

"Also, I don’t want you pestering me anymore. Whether I have a boyfriend or not, there’s no way I could ever be with you."

Georgia pushed the door open, but before she could step out, Zane Lennox yanked her back.

"Georgia, I truly love you!"

Zane Lennox’s eyes were full of sincerity as he looked at her, as if he was afraid she wouldn’t believe him.

Georgia smiled and asked with extreme calm, "Then how exactly do you love me?"

’As expected, all crows under the sun are black. Men just can’t shake their vile habit of fooling around.’

Just as Zane Lennox was about to answer, Georgia took a deep breath. "Zane, I saw you last night."

Zane Lennox’s heart skipped a beat. His throat was tight, and he couldn’t make a sound. ’What did you see?’ he wanted to ask.

Georgia spoke slowly, every word clear. "The scene of you and Joanne Donovan all over each other, the content of your conversation... I know everything."

"Zane Lennox, you say you truly love me. If that’s the case, then why are you also entangled with Joanne Donovan?"

Georgia gave him a cool glance. He probably didn’t even know when he got that hickey. "With things like this," she said, "do you still think you truly love me?"

Georgia pushed the car door open, got out, and walked straight into the apartment building.

’It was for the best to cut these ties now and save herself the trouble later.’

Once back at her place, she flopped onto the bed and let her mind go blank, determined not to think about anything.

Georgia slept straight through to the next morning.

And yet, after all that sleep, she seemed even more exhausted.

When Nancy Hughes woke up, she found Georgia preparing breakfast. "When did you get back?"

Georgia was feeling tired, so she called Nicole Kane to ask for a day off. She wanted to rest at home for a day.

Nicole Kane didn’t say much, just told her to rest well.

Georgia spent the morning cleaning the apartment. Around noon, Lynn Thorne called.

Georgia changed into clean clothes, rushed out the door, and hailed a taxi, heading straight for the address Lynn Thorne gave her.

Lynn Thorne had been crying on the phone—the kind of sobbing that made speech impossible.

When Georgia arrived at a small motel, she saw Lynn Thorne, whose red eyes were clear evidence that she had been crying.

She went forward and hugged her. "It’s okay, Sis!"

"Georgia!" Lynn Thorne cried, collapsing into Georgia’s arms as if she’d suffered a great injustice.

"Tell me what’s wrong, Sis. Don’t cry." Georgia helped her onto the bed, patting her back soothingly.

Crying, Lynn Thorne told Georgia the whole story from beginning to end.

Lynn Thorne and her husband, Finn Sutton, had been brought together by a marriage of convenience for the sake of business.

The couple didn’t have a passionate romance, and not long after they married, Lynn Thorne gave birth to a son for Finn Sutton, Leah.

They had now been married for nearly ten years. Over a decade, even if you started with no feelings, you would expect some to have developed.

Lynn Thorne was a woman who took things as they came. She was a true believer in the old saying, "marry a chicken, follow the chicken; marry a dog, follow the dog." After marrying Finn Sutton, she had always dutifully fulfilled her role, showing filial piety to his parents and doing everything that was expected of her.

But she never expected that their ten years of quiet, steady life would be unable to stand against the intrusion of a third party.

This mistress had somehow seduced Finn Sutton, twisting him around her little finger to the point that he even brought her to their home, demanding she be allowed to move in.

Lynn Thorne trembled with anger, wanting to fight this mistress to the death.

Finn Sutton shoved her to the ground and shouted sternly, "Lynn, she’s pregnant!"

The Sutton Family had always wanted more children to carry on the family line.

Unfortunately, this daughter-in-law’s health was poor. After giving birth to Leah Sutton, she had never conceived again.

Now, not only was the woman Finn Sutton brought home pregnant, but she was pregnant with a boy. The two Sutton Family elders were delighted.

In a fit of anger, Lynn Thorne left the Sutton Family home. Not daring to return to the Thorne Family, she took what little money she had and checked into this small motel.

Later, she thought of her son and wanted to take Leah with her as well.

But who knew the Sutton Family would be so heartless and cruel? Not only did they want her to sign divorce papers with Finn Sutton, but they also wouldn’t let her take her son.

Lynn Thorne rarely went out, as her life had always revolved around her son and her family. She had no one to confide in.

After thinking it over and over, the only person she could turn to was this younger sister, with whom she had a distant relationship.

"Sis, don’t cry. I will definitely help you get Leah back!" Georgia’s eyes couldn’t help but turn red as well.

Georgia wouldn’t let her sister stay here. She took Lynn Thorne back to her apartment. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

When Nancy Hughes got home from work, she saw the extra person in their apartment. "Georgia, who is this?"

"She’s my sister. Something’s come up recently, and I want her to stay here for a while."

"There are already two people living here. I’d better not trouble you." Lynn Thorne stood up to leave, but Georgia pulled her back. "It’s no trouble."

Nancy Hughes saw Miss Thorne’s red, swollen eyes and figured something major must have happened. "It’s no problem, no problem at all!"

’One more person just adds a bit more life to the place!’

Lynn Thorne’s mind was completely preoccupied with her son. She could accept the divorce, but she absolutely had to have her son!

Lynn Thorne was in a bad mood. She only took a few bites of dinner before putting her utensils down.

That night, the two sisters slept in the same bed. Georgia heard Lynn Thorne’s quiet sigh. "Don’t worry, Sis. I’ll go find my brother-in-law tomorrow."
