Chapter 130: Chapter 126: Elliot Sheridan’s Grandmother’s Opinion of Her
Elliot Sheridan rarely smiled, and Miss Sheridan hadn’t seen her grandson smile at a girl in a long time.
She understood then. ’This little gal is really something else.’
After dinner, it was already past seven o’clock.
Miss Sheridan always kept a very regular schedule: up at six in the morning and in bed by eight sharp.
Before leaving, the old woman pulled Georgia Thorne aside to speak with her alone.
Georgia tensed up. ’Is she going to drop another bombshell on me before she leaves?’
"What are you afraid of? You’re the apple of my grandson’s eye. If I bullied you, he’d turn right around and accuse me of pulling rank because of my age!" Miss Sheridan shot her a look.
"Er..." Georgia chuckled sheepishly. She had to admit, Elliot Sheridan was definitely the type to do something like that.
"You know, you’re not even that pretty. How on earth did my grandson fall for you?"
Georgia froze for two or three seconds, stunned. She had expected Elliot’s grandmother to at least give her a stern warning.
"You don’t have a face that could launch a thousand ships, so how did you manage to bewitch my grandson and have him wrapped around your little finger?"
During dinner, the two young lovebirds had been sitting across from her, exchanging flirtatious glances. They couldn’t think she hadn’t noticed.
She had eagle eyes, and she’d seen everything perfectly clearly.
Just as Georgia was about to say that she hadn’t really wrapped Elliot around her finger, the old woman thumped her cane forcefully on the floor and stared at Georgia’s fair, delicate face.
She offered a two-word evaluation: "Little minx!"
Georgia: "Er..."
Georgia was at a loss for words. ’This old lady... she seems so unreasonable.’
’How am I a minx?!’
After seeing Miss Sheridan off, Georgia turned and sat on the sofa. Elliot Sheridan was smoking a cigarette. "What did my grandmother say to you?"
He traced a finger along her cheek. Her lips were pouting so much you could hang a jug from them.
Georgia said glumly, "Your grandmother called me a minx!"
It was their first meeting. Even if she was an elder, she shouldn’t use a word like that to describe her.
Throughout history, words like that were always used to describe bad women.
Hearing this, the smile in Elliot’s eyes deepened.
He exhaled a thin stream of white smoke and leaned closer to her. "I told you not to take what an old woman says to heart. You’re actually bothered by it?"
Georgia thought about it and realized he was right. Why should she care so much about what an old woman said?
"I’ll go do the dishes first." Having come to this realization, her mood brightened considerably.
Before she could stand up, a strong arm wrapped around her and pulled her into an embrace.
Elliot snuffed out his cigarette. "Have the housekeeper come and wash them tomorrow. Let’s get back to our unfinished business."
The light scent of men’s cologne, mixed with a faint hint of tobacco, wafted over her as he drew near.
His scent was always so pleasant. Getting too close to him, she would always be so captivated that she’d lose her senses and fall into ruin with him.
The moment Elliot lifted her into his arms, she felt that he was the real minx!
’An old devil, specializing in seducing young women!’
They had been entangled for so long the night before that Georgia Thorne almost overslept and was late for work the next morning.
She really couldn’t spend too much time with Elliot. He was going to ruin her habit of going to bed early.
She rushed to the office and had just sat down when she received a WeChat message from Nancy Hughes.
"And you say you’re not living together! Look at you, you spent the night at Elliot’s apartment again! Miss Thorne, may I ask, do you have any sense of responsibility as my roommate? You actually left me alone in the apartment again!"
Nancy had sent a long tirade. Georgia blushed and replied with a smiley face emoji.
The other girl immediately replied with three angry-faced emojis.
And so, the entire morning was spent placating Nancy Hughes.
In the end, she was ordered to go home and cook a delicious meal as penance.
Georgia replied with an "Okay." Just as she put her phone down, Nicole Kane walked past her from behind.
"Come to my office."
’She wants to see me? What is it now?’
She stood up and glanced down at the file on her desk. It was about the business trip to Akashima.
Nicole Kane was the first "power woman" Georgia had ever met in person, and she greatly admired such a self-reliant and strong woman.
Georgia assumed Nicole had called her in for her answer regarding the training in Akashima.
She still hadn’t made up her mind.
"Have a seat." Nicole looked at her with a stern expression, pulled a folder from a stack of documents, and tossed it in front of her. "Take a look at this file!"
Nicole’s tone was different from usual, laced with severity.
Georgia opened it and glanced inside. It was the contract she had signed with Zane Lennox’s company.
"What’s wrong? Is there a problem?"
"I don’t think there’s a problem, but the other party does." Her beautiful eyes stared at Georgia. "I hear you’ve been getting very close with Justin Sullivan, the new hotshot from the Sullivan Group?"
"I don’t understand." Georgia looked at her. She had spent a long time drafting that contract, and their Manager Garrison had even reviewed it and explicitly told her there were no issues.
’What does this contract have to do with Justin Sullivan?’
For a recent graduate like Georgia, who had only been in the workforce for a few months, her real-world experience was indeed too shallow. She couldn’t yet grasp such a simple truth.
Nicole took a pack of cigarettes from the bottom of her drawer and lit one.
She usually restrained herself and rarely smoked in the office.
She flicked the ash. "Let me put it this way. Back when we signed this contract with Zane Lennox, he only signed it because of you. Now that you’re getting close to Justin Sullivan, Zane Lennox is unhappy, and he wants to break the contract. But breaking it isn’t even the main point. He’s hired a specialized lawyer to sue us!" Nicole angrily slammed the lawyer’s letter onto the desk.
"Sue us?"
"The contract itself is fine, but their lawyer found a loophole. It says our side doesn’t meet a certain regulation. Personnel in the insurance industry are required to have specific professional qualifications, which you don’t have yet. Their lawyer is seizing on this point, claiming our company has engaged in serious fraudulent activity, and that’s why they’re suing us!"
Her mind went blank, but she understood the gravity of the situation.
She took a deep breath. ’Zane Lennox is doing this on purpose.’
If he’d cared about this point, he shouldn’t have let her be the one to sign it in the first place.
Nicole had received a call from their lawyer that morning and had been so angry she’d almost smashed her phone.
Nothing like this had ever happened with a contract signed under her watch.
This was an unprecedented catastrophe.
Zane Lennox was rich and powerful. If he really decided to sue them, they probably couldn’t afford the breach-of-contract penalty even if they sold the company.
Georgia was completely bewildered. "But when they signed the contract, they didn’t have any objections."
"Well, that depends on the choice you make!" Nicole exhaled a puff of smoke. "What, you still don’t get it?"
Georgia lowered her head, staring at Zane Lennox’s flamboyant signature on the contract, and clenched her fists.
Nicole said sharply, "Georgia Thorne, Zane Lennox’s target is you. This case will only turn around if you go and plead with him."
The contract itself wasn’t the problem. The problem was Georgia Thorne.
Clutching the contract, Georgia returned to her desk.
She never thought Zane Lennox would go back on his word.
Furious, she made a call. It seemed Zane Lennox was just waiting for her to walk right into his trap.
In truth, even if she didn’t want to walk into the trap, Nicole was behind her, pushing her in.
The call connected quickly, and a cheerful male voice came through. "Calling me? What’s up!"
"Zane Lennox, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?"
Using such despicable means to force her to bow her head.
"I thought you’d at least be begging, not questioning me like this!"
"Zane Lennox!"
"I have a meeting at three this afternoon. I’m free until then."
With that, Zane Lennox hung up, giving Georgia no chance to say another word.
The meaning was clear. Zane Lennox wanted her to go see him before three o’clock that afternoon.
It was the only way to stop the company from being sued.
Without even stopping for lunch, Georgia angrily grabbed her bag from her seat and rushed to Zane Lennox’s company.
Inside Lennox Tower, as soon as Georgia gave her name, the receptionist said eagerly, "Miss Thorne, President Lennox has instructed that you wait for him in the lounge."
Georgia followed the receptionist into the lounge.
The receptionist poured a cup of coffee. "Please enjoy, Miss Thorne!"
"I’d like to ask, when will President Lennox be able to see me?"
"I’m sorry, Miss Thorne. Our president had a guest arrive unexpectedly. You’ll need to wait a moment."
"Thank you, I understand."
Georgia thanked her politely, then turned and stared at the steaming cup of coffee in front of her.
The receptionist considerately closed the door so the noise from outside wouldn’t disturb her.
Georgia sat there blankly for a while with nothing to do.
She had gone to bed so late last night. After sitting for a bit, a wave of sleepiness washed over her.
Not knowing when Zane Lennox would be free to see her, Georgia shifted into a more comfortable position and closed her eyes.
She woke from her nap to find the coffee on the table had gone cold.
She glanced at the time. She had only been waiting for half an hour.
’Zane Lennox... is he making me wait on purpose?’
Georgia stood up and turned to leave.
The heavy, dark red wooden door was pushed open from the outside. Zane Lennox stood in the doorway. "Sorry to keep you waiting!"
He was wearing something different from when she’d seen him yesterday.
An expensive, handmade suit with a black-and-white diagonally striped shirt underneath. He looked both distinguished and handsome.
"President Lennox, regarding our company’s contract, I’d like to explain a few things. I was wondering if you have time now?"
Zane Lennox glanced down at his watch. "What to do... Something’s come up suddenly. It seems I don’t have time to listen to your explanation here."
A lazy smile played on his handsome face, and his dark eyes watched her intently, as if waiting for her answer.
This case couldn’t be delayed at all.
If she didn’t clear things up with Zane Lennox today, her company could receive a court summons tomorrow. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"President Lennox, what is it you want?" Georgia ground her teeth and glared at Zane Lennox.
On the phone, he had clearly said he was free until three o’clock, and now he’d suddenly changed his tune.
"We can discuss this somewhere else!"
Zane Lennox glanced at his watch again, then turned and took a couple of steps toward the door, noticing Georgia hadn’t followed.
He turned halfway back. "What, are you afraid I’m going to sell you?"
