Chapter 114: Chapter 114: I’d Like to Ask You for Someone
A smile played on Elliot Sheridan’s lips. His disdainful, provocative gaze shifted to Justin Sullivan before finally landing on Georgia Thorne’s face.
Georgia Thorne struggled a few times, but she couldn’t break free from Justin Sullivan’s grasp.
Lifting her head, she met Elliot Sheridan’s narrowed eyes. His dark pupils revealed his displeasure.
When he got angry, the man was always exceptionally intimidating.
Georgia Thorne gave a nervous laugh as her heart hammered traitorously in her chest.
"Mr. Sullivan, to be frank, I am here today not only to congratulate you on your birthday but also to ask you for someone."
Elliot Sheridan’s gaze fell upon Georgia Thorne, and he spoke in a measured tone.
Noticing his gaze, Justin Sullivan deliberately shifted his body to block Georgia Thorne from view.
He looked at Silas Sullivan. "Dad, I have something important to tell you!"
Justin Sullivan grew frantic. Elliot Sheridan’s target was Georgia Thorne.
"Justin, stop this nonsense. We’ll discuss your affairs after the party is over!" Displeasure was already evident on Silas Sullivan’s face.
"But..."
Justin Sullivan swallowed, but before he could say more than a word, Silas Sullivan’s attention had already shifted to Elliot Sheridan. He smiled and asked, "I’m curious, who in my circle could be so important that President Sheridan would come to ask for them in person?"
Elliot Sheridan’s smile was deep and inscrutable. "Georgia Thorne."
His sharp, piercing gaze bypassed everyone else and fell directly on Georgia Thorne. He was here for her and her alone.
Hearing her name come from Elliot Sheridan’s lips, her heart skipped a beat, then began to race even faster.
’He’s not planning to...’
Georgia Thorne did not want her relationship with Elliot Sheridan to be revealed, especially since Hayley Sullivan was also here. She met the man’s teasing gaze.
Thinking quickly, she blurted out, "Uncle!"
’That should stop anyone from getting the wrong idea about our relationship.’
The act of "asking for someone" was always ripe for speculation.
Elliot Sheridan enjoyed watching Georgia Thorne get flustered. Her cheeks would flush a rosy pink.
She was anxious, but with no other options, she could only rely on her own quick wits to save herself.
Just like now, for instance. A single word—"Uncle"—to dispel everyone’s suspicions.
Elliot Sheridan’s smile vanished. "I’m sure, Mr. Sullivan, that you are aware my niece recently broke up with your son. She’s taken it quite hard. And as it happens, Georgia Thorne is like a sister to my niece. Therefore, I’d like to ask if I can take Georgia home with me so she can comfort my niece."
"Two girls of about the same age will always have plenty to talk about, wouldn’t you agree?"
The Sheridan Family only had one daughter, and everyone in the family doted on her.
Silas Sullivan knew that his son had been dating Selena Sheridan. Before they returned to the country, there was talk of an engagement, but they broke up not long after coming back.
He had been so angry he’d nearly taken a whip to Justin Sullivan.
Justin Sullivan had knelt in the study for an entire night, confessing that he had always loved someone else and simply couldn’t make it work with Selena Sheridan, which is why he had broken up with her.
Silas Sullivan was so incensed by his son’s words that his old ailments nearly flared up. If he already loved someone else, why on earth did he get involved with Selena Sheridan in the first place?
Naturally, Silas had hoped Justin would marry Selena Sheridan and thus forge a connection with the Sheridan Family. But the boy had to go and bring up his mother, Lauren Reid.
Lauren Reid had always been a sore spot for Silas Sullivan. He had been the one to wrong her all those years ago.
Justin had said that if his father didn’t want him to repeat his mistakes, then he shouldn’t force him to marry Selena Sheridan.
He was getting older, his heart had softened, and such things moved him.
So, Silas Sullivan had told him to bring Georgia Thorne over to meet him. If she seemed acceptable, then he would allow it.
But now, from what Elliot Sheridan was implying, Georgia Thorne and Selena Sheridan were as close as sisters. And Justin had been involved with both of them...
Georgia Thorne was Jared Thorne’s illegitimate daughter, a fact he was already unhappy with. Now, hearing that she was essentially a homewrecker, Silas Sullivan’s impression of her worsened considerably. freewebnσvel.cѳm
He smiled. "So, you’re saying that you’ve come to ask for her on your niece’s behalf, President Sheridan?"
"You could say that," Elliot Sheridan said with a smile. "So, Mr. Sullivan, would you agree to spare your young granddaughter for a little while?"
Georgia Thorne’s status in this situation was awkward, so Silas Sullivan would never allow his son to marry her.
Since a marriage was out of the question, it was better to sever the notion sooner rather than later. "Since President Sheridan himself is asking, how could I possibly disagree?"
"I don’t agree!" Justin Sullivan blurted out anxiously. He knew Elliot Sheridan had come to snatch Georgia Thorne away from him.
The matter with Selena Sheridan was just an excuse. His ultimate goal was Georgia Thorne.
"Dad!"
"As long as I am the head of this family, you will listen to me!" Silas Sullivan shot him a cold glance. "Justin, let her go, now."
Elliot Sheridan’s goal was simple: to openly snatch her away from Justin Sullivan and, without lifting a finger, ensure that Justin and Georgia would never have a future together.
Silas Sullivan was, after all, an old man, and his old-fashioned ideas were more or less ingrained.
The combination of her illegitimate status and their improper generational standing was enough to make them an impossible match.
And he was simply adding another layer of insurance to that impossibility.
With just a hint or two from him, Silas Sullivan would absolutely never accept someone who seemed to be a homewrecker.
Silas’s resonant voice commanded Justin to release Georgia, and Justin had no choice but to obey.
The two men stood face to face. One was seething with anger; the other was arrogant and untamable, utterly dismissing his rival.
In terms of sheer presence alone, Justin Sullivan was clearly a notch below Elliot Sheridan.
He was, after all, new to the real world, no match for a man who had navigated its treacherous waters for many years.
He lowered his head, resentful, as his hand loosened its grip on Georgia Thorne’s wrist, inch by inch. Her smooth skin slowly slid from his palm.
His dark, deep-set eyes stared daggers at Elliot Sheridan, who simply smiled and took a sip of his wine.
"My thanks to Mr. Sullivan for letting her go."
Anyone could hear the thinly veiled sarcasm in Elliot Sheridan’s words.
The whole situation felt a bit strange. If not for the fact that Georgia Thorne was of a younger generation, onlookers might have thought the two men were rivals fighting over a woman.
Georgia Thorne rubbed her wrist. Justin Sullivan had gripped it so tightly it hurt, and a ring of red was already visible on her skin.
"Georgia, come here," Elliot Sheridan said, ignoring Justin Sullivan’s furious gaze.
’He really is just a rookie, with far too little real-world experience.’
’He’s been coddled as the young master of the Sullivan Family, praised by all, and now he thinks he’s something special. In reality, without the Sullivans, he’s nothing!’
’Running into me today... he can consider this a free lesson.’
’You live and you learn.’
"Mr. Sheridan," Georgia Thorne said softly, walking to his side.
Elliot Sheridan acknowledged her with a hum, then turned to Silas Sullivan. "Mr. Sullivan, if you’ll excuse me, I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be taking my leave."
"Of course," Silas Sullivan agreed with a smile.
Amidst the crowd, a few onlookers who didn’t understand the situation watched with curiosity as the woman left with Elliot Sheridan. Wasn’t that the same young woman who had been trailing behind Justin Sullivan just moments ago?
How had she ended up with Elliot Sheridan in the blink of an eye?
Hayley Sullivan was just returning from the restroom when she saw Georgia Thorne leaving with Elliot Sheridan. Confused, she was about to go and call out to Georgia when Lynn Thorne stopped her.
"Mom, Grandma wants to see you."
Hayley Sullivan frowned. When she looked back, Elliot Sheridan and Georgia Thorne had already vanished through the doorway.
With no other choice, she went to find Jane Jennings.
"How has Amanda been lately?"
"How do you think? She just stays at home all day and refuses to go out!" Hayley Sullivan grew angry just talking about it.
That Joanne Donovan who came back from abroad was clearly the homewrecker, but she had the gall to turn around and accuse her daughter of being the third party in her relationship with Elliot Sheridan.
Now, plenty of people were treating Amanda Thorne like a joke. She was always so arrogant, declaring to everyone that she was Elliot Sheridan’s woman. But now that a supposed fiancée had popped out of the woodwork, wasn’t it just a huge slap in the face?
However, the news story had recently been pulled from the media. They hadn’t done it, so they suspected Elliot Sheridan had arranged for it.
