Chapter 106: Chapter 106: You Can’t Be Tricking a Little Girl
Elliot Sheridan had dealt with Quincy Rhodes quite a bit over the years. The woman had a way with words.
She wouldn’t have gotten to her current position otherwise.
Elliot said comfortingly, "Mom, don’t let people like that get to you."
"I’m trying not to, but the Donovan family is pushing this marriage right to our doorstep! How can I not be anxious?" Sharon Ennis felt like her son was going to be the death of her. "Give me a straight answer today. Can you get married by the end of the year? If not, I’m going to start arranging dates for you right now! You can marry anyone but that Joanne Donovan. We can’t let the Donovan family get what they want!"
Elliot Sheridan had little interest in marriage.
’It was just a formality. He’d always found the whole concept of marriage a hassle. What was the benefit of letting one woman tie you down for the rest of your life?’
’Listening to a woman you didn’t even like chattering in your ear day after day? If that was the so-called spice of life, he’d much rather stay single and have some peace and quiet.’
But things were different now. Elliot had a young woman in his heart, and her name was Georgia Thorne. freёweɓnovel.com
He was starting to care about Georgia Thorne’s thoughts and feelings.
Previously, he wouldn’t have given news like this a second thought.
But Georgia cared. She’d just deliberately turned up the volume, making sure he saw it.
’Perhaps marrying Georgia wouldn’t be such a bad choice after all.’
"You don’t need to set me up with anyone." Elliot’s mood was surprisingly good, his voice clear.
Sharon Ennis was his mother, after all. Hearing the tone in her son’s voice, she asked in pleasant surprise, "Does this mean you have a girlfriend?"
"Yeah."
"Really? When are you going to bring her over to meet me?"
"I’m not in a hurry, so why are you? We just started dating, so things aren’t stable yet. I’ll bring her over when they are," Elliot said.
Sharon Ennis was happy, but she was also worried her son was just trying to placate her. She asked suspiciously, "You’re not just making this up to get me off your back, are you?"
"Believe what you want. In any case, I’m not interested in any of the women you set me up with. You can save them for someone else, or for your husband!"
"Hey, you little brat, what kind of way is that to talk!" Sharon Ennis tutted. ’Save them for her husband? In his dreams!’
Still, Sharon Ennis believed her son. In the past, whenever she pestered him about having a girlfriend, he would clam up. For him to say this now, he probably really did have someone!
"Well then, bring her home by the end of the year so I can see for myself. I’ll need to vet her for you and see what kind of girl she is!" Sharon Ennis said in all seriousness; her standards for a daughter-in-law were very high.
"Mom, she’s still young. If you treat her with the same attitude you have toward my sister-in-law, you’ll definitely scare her off!"
"’Young?’ How old is she?"
"Twenty-one."
"What?!"
Sharon Ennis had thought that when Elliot said ’young,’ he meant seven or eight years his junior at most.
A twenty-one-year-old girl... she was a full thirteen years younger than her son!
Sharon Ennis felt like she was about to collapse. "Elliot Sheridan, I’m telling you, you can’t be taking advantage of a young girl like that!"
’If he didn’t use a little trickery, how else was he supposed to win Georgia over?’
Elliot turned his head, intending to glance over at Georgia, but found that the person who had been watching TV on the sofa was gone.
"That’s all, I’m hanging up." Elliot ended the call and went inside.
He looked all around the room but couldn’t find Georgia.
When Elliot called Georgia, she was busy taking pictures of Blue.
The little one had grown a bit and was looking more beautiful than ever.
With its snow-white fur, it looked to be a Ragdoll.
Georgia had just snapped a picture of Blue when Elliot’s call came in. Her hand trembled slightly as she answered.
"What do you want?" she asked irritably.
"Where are you?!"
Georgia really didn’t want to tell him, but she could hear his low, furious voice even through two doors and a hallway.
"I’ll be back in a minute!"
After hanging up, she turned and asked Miss Lynch, "Could I possibly take Blue home with me for a few days?"
Blue was already weaned, so Miss Lynch said it was fine. If he started missing his mother, Georgia could just bring him back, since they lived right across the hall from each other.
Georgia politely said her goodbyes. As she was closing the door, she heard Miss Lynch say, "Oh, by the way, I think I heard a commotion outside around midnight last night. Are you alright, being a young woman living alone?"
’The commotion last night... wasn’t that just Elliot picking the lock on her door?’
Blushing, Georgia shook her head, indicating that nothing was wrong.
Georgia returned to her apartment, holding the cat, and found Elliot standing in the doorway, smoking.
Georgia knitted her Amber brows. Her nose was stuffy, so at least she couldn’t smell the smoke.
"Where’d you go?"
"To the neighbor’s, to see Blue," Georgia said sullenly.
His deep gaze shifted downward, landing on the cat in Georgia’s arms.
’It was a fluffy, round ball of white. ’Logically,’ a better name for it would be Blake.’
Elliot didn’t like cats, especially this one. It was a gift from that Justin Sullivan.
He took a harsh drag from his cigarette, his eyes bloodshot, and said coldly, "It’s hideous."
Georgia: "..."
’How could he call such a beautiful kitten hideous? Does he have no taste at all?!’
The cat in her arms seemed to understand him, letting out a disgruntled MEOW.
’But Georgia thought the cat was pretty spineless too. All it took was one cold glare from Elliot to silence it.’
It nestled obediently in Georgia’s arms, staring at him with its starry-blue eyes.
Now that they were back together, Georgia couldn’t help but feel a little awkward.
Elliot was still here and showed no signs of leaving.
Georgia glanced at Elliot, who was now teasing Blue. She put her hands on her hips. "Aren’t you going home?"
Elliot looked up at her. "Are you trying to get rid of me?"
’As if she would dare!’
If Elliot wasn’t leaving, Georgia would have to make him dinner.
Still feeling a little weak, she put on her jacket to head out to the supermarket.
Elliot followed her out the door. Georgia turned to look at him. "What are you doing?"
Without a word, Elliot slung an arm around her shoulder and pressed the button for the elevator.
Georgia struggled for a moment, but couldn’t break free, so she resigned herself to his intimate embrace.
As the elevator descended, Georgia stared at their reflection in the mirrored wall.
’This, finally, felt a little like they were actually dating.’
The corners of her mouth turned up into an irrepressible smile.
There was no denying the joy she felt.
All the unhappiness that had been weighing on her chest vanished completely.
Elliot wasn’t a picky eater; he’d eat whatever Georgia made.
Besides ingredients for their meal, they also bought a pile of household items.
Most of them were for Elliot, actually.
When Elliot asked what had happened to the things she’d bought for him before, she had a very bad feeling.
On the way back, Georgia clutched a bag of his things and jogged to keep up with him.
"Are you angry?" Georgia was short, and she struggled to keep up with his long strides.
Just when she managed to fall into step with him, he would take another long stride, and the distance between them would grow again.
Elliot didn’t answer, simply walking faster with the two shopping bags in his hands.
Georgia was breaking a sweat trying to run after him. Finally, having no other choice, she simply slowed down and walked at her own pace. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
’If he wanted to be angry, fine! Let him be angry!’
’She was still angry herself!’
Georgia slowed her pace, and the distance between them grew wider and wider.
After walking a little further, Elliot realized the young woman behind him was no longer keeping up.
He turned and saw her sauntering along at an unhurried pace, and he was so angry he could have spit blood.
He stopped in his tracks and waited for her to approach.
’She knew it. He wouldn’t be so heartless as to just leave her behind.’
"Elliot? Mr. Sheridan?" Georgia stood in front of him and called his name. When he didn’t respond, she tried the other title, which immediately earned her a cold, dark glare.
