Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Don’t Know, Not Allowed
CLINK~
The copper coin rolled to the corner of the wall, bounced off, spun a few times, then settled back into the corner and finally came to a stop.
Faye Yardley picked up the copper coin and knocked on the wall. ’It doesn’t seem to be anything out of the ordinary.’
’The path to survival is here, but how are we supposed to get through?’
BOOM! A large section of the ceiling on the second basement level, near the entrance, collapsed. freewёbnoνel.com
Heavy concrete and rebar snapped, revealing a jagged maw.
"Yardley, what are you doing?"
Faye Yardley frowned slightly. "Mr. Pierce, could each of you try hitting this wall? The system pointed to this as the way out. We should probably trust it."
The other four had a great deal of faith in her uncanny luck.
However, Gavin Donovan said, "The zombies are here. I’ll go up front and hold them off. Mr. Ford, bring the car over to block them."
Finn Ford slapped his forehead. "I’ll find a car and ram it straight into the wall."
Faye Yardley quickly stopped him. "Don’t. Just try hitting the wall with a normal attack."
Ramming a car into the wall could easily get you killed while the wall remained fine, which would be a huge waste.
Caleb Colby followed Gavin Donovan, large machete in hand. The two of them flanked the entrance, holding back the zombies falling from the first floor.
Zachary Pierce had already raised his Treasure Sword and brought it down hard on the wall. A crack appeared, which then grew wider and wider, revealing a silver-gray metal wall inside.
"Mr. Pierce is amazing! What a luxuriously built wall," Faye Yardley remarked. The moment she saw the metal panel, she had a rough idea of how to get in.
Faye Yardley tossed a machine gun each to Finn Ford and Zachary Pierce. Then she raised her left arm, and a Crossbow Arrow shot out with a WHOOSH toward the zombie in front of Gavin Donovan.
At the same time, she shouted, "Gavin Donovan, Mr. Colby, get over here! Quick!"
Faye Yardley then ran over, not only grabbing the metal box she had kicked aside earlier, but also dragging the skinny zombie over with her.
Amidst the RAT-A-TAT-TAT of machine-gun fire, Faye Yardley smashed the corner of the wall twice with the box, exposing the metal panel beneath. She then dragged the zombie over, took its hand, and pressed it against the panel. The wall automatically slid open, revealing a metallic space dominated by silver-gray tones.
She kicked the zombie’s corpse aside, then stepped inside with the box. "Stop killing them! Get in, quick!"
The door was only open for about five seconds in total. Gavin Donovan was the last one in, and his clothes got caught as it closed. The instant the door shut, Faye Yardley heard a CRUNCH, followed by a RIIIP.
With a cry of pain, the hand of a zombie outside was crushed and severed. Fortunately, Gavin Donovan only ended up with torn clothes.
"Is this an elevator? We’re going down!" The space wasn’t large to begin with, and it felt a bit cramped with five people inside.
Faye Yardley took a piece of clothing out of her backpack and tossed it to Gavin Donovan. "Hurry up and change."
It descended for about three seconds before stopping. Then, the metal wall on the opposite side opened, revealing a clean, brightly lit corridor.
While pulling on the clothes, Gavin Donovan marveled, "What is this place? It still has power." The surroundings were silent. There was nothing there. Faye Yardley started running down the corridor and didn’t stop for about ten minutes, until another door appeared before them.
[You and your squad have discovered Dr. Lynch’s biological laboratory. Exploration progress has increased by 5%. You have met the requirements to leave the Dungeon. Do you wish to leave?]
"A bio-lab can be built right in the middle of Downtown?" Gavin Donovan asked, unable to understand.
Faye Yardley shook her head. "Who knows? But look, the defenses here are actually very well-built."
Caleb Colby retorted habitually, "Then wasn’t our way of getting in a bit crude and simple?"
"Well, could you have found it?"
Caleb Colby shut his mouth.
Zachary Pierce added, "The path we’re on now is probably just one of the backup escape routes."
"The question now is how we get in." Faye Yardley had already circled the door twice, but she still had no idea how to open it.
The previous method was clearly not going to work.
"Who was that skinny zombie? A lab researcher?" Gavin Donovan poked around with his long spear, but he didn’t leave so much as a mark, let alone discover anything.
Faye Yardley slapped her forehead. "The system just said this is Dr. Lynch’s biological museum, right? Dr. Lynch..."
She didn’t wait for anyone to answer. She walked up to the door, rolled up her sleeve, and revealed the vine pattern on her right arm.
A blue light shot out from the door and scanned the pattern. A moment later, they heard a voice say, "Verification successful," and the door opened.
’If this is how you’re supposed to clear this Dungeon, then no one else would stand a chance,’ the other four thought, completely baffled.
Caleb Colby voiced the question on everyone’s mind. "Yardley, do you know Dr. Lynch?"
"I don’t." Faye Yardley wasn’t lying; she really didn’t know him.
Beyond the door was what looked like a reception lounge.
Faye Yardley looked around curiously. There were all sorts of tea here. She picked some up, and the system didn’t indicate any contamination. "Anyone want some tea? It’s not contaminated."
After saying that, she immediately stored the tea she was holding.
Aside from the beverages, nothing else here could be stored.
"Let’s go. We’ll check the other areas," Zachary Pierce said, opening a glass door on the other side of the lounge. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Caleb Colby scanned the surroundings. "Strange. This looks like an office area, but there’s no one here. No zombies, either."
"Keep looking. A laboratory wouldn’t be this simple," Zachary Pierce said. He felt the place was abnormally clean.
’Could it really stay this clean with no one around? How is that possible?’
Faye Yardley didn’t think too much about it. She just followed her intuition, turning left, then right, then walking straight without any hesitation.
The others were also looking around, but they followed her lead.
Soon, they came to another door that required verification. This time, however, Faye Yardley didn’t act immediately. Instead, she looked back at the other four. "I have a feeling it’s not going to be simple inside. Should I open it?"
[Been on edge all day waiting, but nothing’s happened. Still can’t relax at all.]
[The notification this time is weird, too. It says it’s ’about to start,’ but who knows how long ’about to’ is.]
[I’ve already run into it. Mamma mia, I saw a skeleton walking on water! It’s coming for my raft, what should I do?]
[Holy crap, what a gorgeous Bunny Girl! I have to invite her onto my raft.]
[Dude upstairs, be rational! The Bunny Girl is just a lure... but man, she really is gorgeous. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to refuse either.]
"Second Sister, when is Elder Sister coming back? I’ve already fished up three treasure chests. Can I really not open them?"
Willow Yardley rejected Eamon in a voice devoid of any inflection. "You may not. I do not know. Do not touch them."
"Sigh... Second Sister, you were so much more talkative when Miss Yvonne was around."
"Hm?"
"Open it. Just be ready for a fight. If worst comes to worst, Yardley can just confirm to leave the Dungeon."
"But wouldn’t we lose out on points? Should we spend them first?"
