Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Suddenly Got Rich

The only sounds at night were the occasional crackling of the flames and the roars of zombies from outside the window.

Zombies were an illogical existence. They felt no pain, needed no sleep, and could even go long periods without eating. Plus, they evolved.

Although no one knew what their final evolved form would be, they would undoubtedly become humanity’s most formidable foe.

After all, in this particular Dungeon, zombies had already completely replaced humanity.

Faye Yardley practiced her breathing exercises even as she lay down. With her current physical fitness, pulling two or three all-nighters was no problem at all.

However, now that she was with an unfamiliar being—one she wasn’t even sure was human—Faye Yardley felt it was better for her to behave more conventionally.

In that moment, the room became especially quiet.

As the coals in the Fire Pit were about to die out, Faye opened her eyes to see Yvonne Lynch curled up in a ball on the floor, fast asleep.

The sky outside was beginning to brighten. Faye Yardley jumped off the table and stored the Fire Pit in her backpack.

She then squatted down behind Yvonne Lynch, watching her. After a moment’s thought, she took out the Sharp Dagger. The instant its tip touched the girl’s school uniform, a system prompt appeared: [Friendly Reminder: If you kill the key Dungeon character, Yvonne Lynch, you will forfeit your right to enter any zombie-related Dungeons in the future.]

The dagger vanished instantly. Her fingertips brushed against Yvonne Lynch’s back, then she patted it. "Hey, wake up. It’s morning."

When the girl showed no sign of waking, Faye Yardley said, "Well, if you want to keep sleeping, I’ll go scout for any other hidden zombies. See you in a bit."

With that, she stood up, walked to the entrance, moved the table aside, and didn’t forget to pull the door shut behind her after she left.

Faye Yardley’s footsteps were light, and soon they faded completely. On the floor, the curled-up Yvonne Lynch suddenly snapped her eyes open. Placing a hand over her heart, she thought, ’Why did I feel like I was in danger just now?’

’Miss Yardley clearly didn’t hurt me... But her fingers were so cold. She isn’t some kind of cold-blooded monster, is she?’

’But would a monster be so gentle?’

Unaware that Yvonne Lynch had already labeled her a monster, Faye Yardley was, in fact, tracking zombies by sound and heading straight to kill them.

With their attack power already reduced by 10%, these common zombies posed no threat whatsoever to Faye Yardley, especially when scattered.

She had killed her way through every nook and cranny of the school, yet the system still hadn’t indicated that the zombie-slaying task was one hundred percent complete. And she couldn’t kill Yvonne Lynch...

"System, are you bugging out on me?"

The system gave no response. ’Right, why haven’t I found any guns in the school? That doesn’t make sense. But where would they most likely be?’

’And what zombies could I possibly have missed?’

Faye Yardley stood in the cafeteria—tables and chairs were overturned, bodies of the undead were strewn about, and severed zombie heads had found their own unique resting places. Try as she might, she couldn’t think of anywhere she had missed.

’I already went through the back kitchen and killed every moving zombie there. Don’t tell me a zombie is hiding in a cabinet, just like Yvonne Lynch did?’

Just as Faye Yardley exited the cafeteria, she found a stash of firearms behind an electronic screen in a first-floor classroom of Academic Building 1. As she was frantically stuffing them into her backpack, the system prompt appeared again: [Zombie Slaying Mission progress has reached one hundred percent. Do you wish to leave the Dungeon now?]

"No."

This time, she managed to stuff all the firearms and their spare ammunition into her pack.

’But this is just the first stash. I definitely don’t have time to look for any others.’

"System, can I take Yvonne Lynch with me? To my raft."

There was still no answer.

Faye Yardley snorted and walked out of the classroom into the central courtyard. It must have been a small garden once, but now it was a complete eyesore.

Cupping her hands around her mouth, she shouted, "Yvonne Lynch, get over here, quick!"

After shouting three times, Faye Yardley walked over to a long stone bench. She kicked the zombie corpse slumped over it to the ground, then plopped herself down.

"Open Point Shop."

’The total points are even less than last time. How annoying.’

Total points: 11,888.

’First, I’ll check the Skill Books. The Basic Shooting Skills are gone since I already bought them. This system is so damn stingy.’

After some thought, Faye Yardley selected the branch skill: *Basic Archery Technique*. ’Bonnie wanted to learn archery anyway, so this is perfect,’ she reasoned.

"Miss Yardley, I’m here!" Yvonne Lynch called out happily, running toward Faye Yardley. She stopped just before reaching her and added, "I killed two zombies just now!"

"That’s great!"

After offering some casual praise, Faye Yardley extended the invitation. "I don’t have much time left here. Do you want to come with me when I leave?"

"I can? Yes, I want to."

[Key Dungeon Character Yvonne Lynch has agreed to leave with you. A contract is required to successfully remove her from the Dungeon and allow her to reside on your raft long-term. Please select a contract type.]

[Contract Types: Slave, Employee, Partner, Pet]

Faye Yardley fell silent, her gaze shifting from the contract options to Yvonne Lynch’s beaming face.

Faye Yardley immediately dismissed the Slave and Pet options. She had no interest in keeping either.

’As for the Employee contract, she’d need to have some skill to write into the agreement. What can she even do?’

"Yvonne Lynch, what can you do?"

"Uhh... Does ’I can read’ count?"

Faye Yardley: ...

Her gaze fell on the Partner contract. It meant an equal partnership, and signing it would require granting the other party partial access to her raft. That was what gave her pause.

When Faye fell silent, Yvonne Lynch assumed it was because she was too useless and that Faye no longer wanted to take her. She frantically racked her brain for any other skills she might have besides reading.

Faye Yardley decided she might as well spend her points first.

And so, under Yvonne Lynch’s strange gaze, she began pointing and gesturing at the empty air.

’The Basic Planting Room Upgrade Coupon costs thirty thousand points? That’s way out of my league. I guess I’m not worthy!’

A flicker of displeasure crossed Faye Yardley’s face, making Yvonne Lynch’s heart race with anxiety.

"Yvonne Lynch, to take you with me, we need to sign a contract. There are four types: Slave, Pet, Employee, and Partner. I won’t even mention the first two; neither of us is interested in that. As for Employee, since you don’t have any special skills or expertise, that’s not an option either. That only leaves Partner." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Yvonne Lynch could see Faye Yardley’s conflict. She might be young, but she wasn’t stupid. She understood that anyone would be hesitant to make a complete stranger their Partner.

But she was the one being chosen, which made her own feelings even more complicated.

"I’m going to add a non-negotiable clause to the Partnership agreement. If you’re okay with it, we’ll sign."

Left here all alone, she didn’t know how she would survive. Yvonne Lynch really had no other choice.

’Miss Yardley is kind, after all,’ she thought. ’She didn’t try to make me a slave or a pet.’

"I’m willing."

The two then signed the Partnership contract, with its specially added clause. The moment it was finalized, Faye Yardley discovered her total points had instantly increased.

Faye Yardley stared at the long string of numbers in disbelief. She was suddenly rich!
