Chapter 68: Chapter 68: A Great Harvest
Faye Yardley never thought things would get so surreal, bringing a newly spawned monster onto her own raft.
The little green dwarf had its own language. Of course, Faye Yardley couldn’t understand it, but since Willow Yardley could, it was as if Faye could too.
Through Willow’s translation, she learned that the little green dwarf’s name was Eamon (a phonetic translation). He had heard there was a chance to leave his own world and have fun in another, so he had snuck over.
He hadn’t even had time to get excited about seeing the world of ice and snow before he saw his companions charge toward the raft and, without a second thought, prepare to attack.
Then they were turned into pincushions.
Eamon hadn’t even had time to yell "Wait!"
Luckily, those guys still knew to protect him.
So he wasn’t injured, but they had all been turned into pincushions, and then...
’Am I a captive now?’
Faye Yardley watched as an expression of grief and indignant shame appeared on Eamon’s face.
"How are you going to get back?"
Eamon looked up, blinking his ignorant and innocent little bean-like eyes. He didn’t know. The original plan was to sneak here and then sneak back with his companions.
’Who knew it was so dangerous out here?’
"What can you do?"
Besides translating, Willow Yardley added, "Sis, Little Green Men are actually great at taking care of plants, just like the Elven Race. You could have him stay in the cultivation room and help look after the plants."
Upon learning that Eamon could not only increase plant yields but also accelerate their growth, Faye Yardley decided to "hire" him.
And so, under the "witness" of the system, the two parties signed an equal and friendly employment contract. Eamon became a legal employee on Faye Yardley’s raft.
’There are so many people in the region. It’s possible others have also subdued or, like her, hired various monsters that have spawned.’
But Willow Yardley, who was always monitoring the regional channel, had never mentioned anything like it. Apparently, no one was talking.
’Tsk, tsk, everyone’s so tight-lipped.’
After signing the agreement, Faye Yardley was able to communicate directly with Eamon.
’It must be thanks to the system’s help.’
"Eamon, do you need a bed in the cultivation room?"
"Is that okay?"
"It is."
Eamon felt that being a captive wasn’t so bad after all, and his mood improved considerably.
’A happy employee is a proactive and motivated employee.’
She had Willow Yardley take Eamon to the cultivation room, then Faye Yardley disembarked from the raft again herself.
She had wasted so much time with Eamon; she wondered if the Little Green Men’s bodies were still there. She hadn’t given up on looting the corpses.
Fortunately, aside from being nibbled on a bit by the swarming fish and shrimp, they were mostly intact. Faye Yardley reached out and touched one gently. As expected, the system prompt sounded. [Decomposable for materials. Decompose?]
"Yes."

Happily returning to the raft, Faye Yardley went back into her cabin and first returned the two Energy Stones to Gavin Donovan. It felt great not to be in debt.
People were now willing to trade away Energy Stones. Although the total amount of food required was a bit high, it wasn’t enough to have a major impact on her.
So she now had the Energy Stones needed for the daily maintenance of her Energy Tower.
It was her first time seeing an Invasion Card. It was the same size as an Invitation Card, but the Invasion Card was blood-red.
[Invasion Card: Can be used to invade another player’s raft within the same region without their consent. This card is effective for 4 hours.]
’Tsk, tsk. One is for inviting guests to your raft, the other is for secretly invading someone else’s. If you can get on board and take out the owner, you can directly annex their raft and all their supplies.’
She was well aware of this fact.
This was where the benefits of the Energy Protection Tower became apparent. As long as the Energy Shield couldn’t be broken, no one could invade.
Even with an Invasion Card, you would only appear outside the Energy Shield.
This gave the defender enough time to react.
But there was no denying it—the Invasion Card was a great item, especially when you had a life-or-death grudge.
Faye Yardley stared at the blood-red Invasion Card, a torrent of ideas flooding her mind. Perhaps she could use this to get rid of Hailey Miles ahead of time.
Even if the Hailey Miles of this world hadn’t harmed her yet.
’One should learn from the ancients, like Chancellor Colby.’
’It’s better to kill an innocent person by mistake than to let an enemy escape.’
’Following that principle, it wouldn’t be random, indiscriminate slaughter. It wouldn’t even be killing by mistake, right?’
’When it comes right down to it, the most important thing is to have a clear conscience and no lingering regrets.’
’I’m already in a survival game world. Being all hesitant and scrupulous just means I learned my lessons a little too well in the nine years of moral education I was forced to take.’
’First, I’ll ask around about Hailey Miles’s situation.’
After some thought, Faye Yardley left a message for Kyle Lewis: "I’d like to ask you about Hailey Miles’s current situation. If you know anything and are willing to share, I can offer a certain amount of compensation."
Then she opened the group chat, skipping straight past the earlier messages.
Faye Yardley: Hello, everyone. I’m sharing a piece of news: spawned monsters can be subdued. Humanoid monsters can be communicated with, and you can talk to them after signing an equal and friendly employment contract. It’s unknown for now if other types of contracts work. LittleGreenMan.jpg
Faye Yardley: Also, I’m asking you all for news about Hailey Miles, who is in the same region. If anyone can find out her specific situation for me, I’m willing to pay separately for the information.
Gavin Donovan: Thanks for the tip, boss. Next time a monster spawns, I’ll pick a strong one, beat it into submission, and make it my underling. If it doesn’t submit, I’ll just kill it. As for that Hailey Miles you mentioned, I don’t know her, so I can’t help you there, boss.
Faye Yardley: No problem, it’s normal not to know her.
Bonnie Callahan: Ahhh!! So you really can subdue them! When that green Goblin was weakened after attacking my raft three times, I took the chance to tie it up. It’s been babbling nonstop, but I can’t understand it. Also, after I tied it up, no new monsters have spawned around my raft. I was thinking it’d be good to just keep it tied up like this until the event ends. At least it’s safe.
Faye Yardley fell silent after seeing Bonnie Callahan’s message. ’You can play like that?!’
’As long as you have one tied up, no more will spawn!’ ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
’Though, even if I’d known beforehand, I still would have kept killing them. The question now is, since I didn’t kill Eamon, will that affect my monster spawns tomorrow?’
Kyle Lewis: "Miss Yardley, there are two other rafts near Hailey Miles’s right now. One of the owners is taking special care of her. I don’t know the specifics beyond that."
"Alright, thank you, Kyle. Please check your Red Envelope."
"Thank you, Miss Yardley."
’As expected, after spending enough time here, people become more and more direct. No more fake pleasantries.’
She took some items out of her backpack and examined them.
