Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Battle with the Octopoid Monster, Energy Baryte

Seeing Logan Langdon walk into the distance, Faye Yardley didn’t return directly to her raft. Instead, she began to explore the ice in other directions.

’What if a crate spawned right here on the ice? It would be such a waste not to grab it.’ freewebnøvel.coɱ

Using her raft as the center, she began to walk in a large circle.

She had a small wooden boat and a Water-Repelling Pearl in her backpack. Even if the ice suddenly melted, she was doubly prepared and had nothing to fear. fгeewebnovёl.com

And what do you know, after circling more than halfway around, she actually found a wooden crate.

’But what’s that dark blob that keeps floating past beneath the ice?’

’A contaminated monster?’

’If I break the ice, will it charge out?’

’I’d clearly have a bigger advantage fighting it on the ice than in the sea.’

With this in mind, Faye Yardley collected the crate, then picked up her Iron Axe and began to chop at the ice.

With her considerable Strength, Faye Yardley chopped through the ice quickly and effectively.

After carving out a hole the size of a basketball, Faye Yardley waited quietly beside it.

The dark shadow swimming back and forth was actually more or less following her movements. Even if it swam past her, it would circle back after a while.

Sure enough, less than ten minutes later, water began to GURGLE from the broken hole in the ice. Soon, a dark head squeezed out, followed by numerous tentacles.

Faye Yardley wasn’t about to wait for it to emerge completely. She threw her Basic Iron Axe like a dart, striking the dark, round head and lodging firmly in it.

While the Sea Monster was using its tentacles to pull the Iron Axe from its head, Faye Yardley had already charged forward with her longsword, unleashing more than ten vicious slashes!

CHOP! CHOP! CHOP!

But she couldn’t even sever a single tentacle!

’It’s so tough!’

Only when the entire Sea Monster squeezed out of the hole, radiating fury, did Faye Yardley get a clear look at it—it was a mutated Octopoid Monster.

Of course, by now, one of its tentacles was already severed. Wasting nothing, Faye Yardley immediately stored the detached piece in her backpack.

The fight had, of course, caught the attention of Willow, who was watching Faye closely. She gauged the distance between the Octopoid Monster and the raft, calculating the Arrow Tower’s range. She had to provide her sister with timely support.

Faye Yardley’s battle with the Octopoid Monster also naturally caught the attention of Logan Langdon in the distance.

"Tsk, I didn’t expect the pretty girl to be a kung fu master. No wonder. But these contaminated Sea Monsters aren’t easy to kill. Maybe I should wait a bit before going over to help her finish it off. That way, she can’t keep giving me the cold shoulder, right?" Logan Langdon stroked his chin. "Girls are always attracted to strong men. She might even fall in love with me because of this, heheh~"

Thinking this, Logan Langdon naturally didn’t rush over to help right away.

And Faye Yardley certainly didn’t need his help.

Although she struggled a bit at first, she soon found her rhythm. Wielding her longsword, every one of her strikes began to damage the Octopoid Monster.

And the longer she fought, the more excited Faye Yardley felt, her heart growing stronger and more powerful.

The battle raged on. The Sea Monster’s mind was chaotic to begin with, driven by the sole instinct to devour any food in its path.

But as its wounds multiplied and more of its tentacles were severed, the Sea Monster was actually struck with the urge to flee back into the sea.

After fighting this long, victory was within reach. Faye Yardley wasn’t about to let it escape. She weaved and dodged, changing direction to block the monster’s path to the ice hole.

On the raft, Willow Yardley was watching the battle intently, but she didn’t dare fire any arrows. Her sister was fighting the Sea Monster in close quarters, and she could easily be hit by the Arrow Tower’s indiscriminate attacks.

So, no matter how worried she was, all she could do was keep a close eye on the battle, not daring to relax for a second.

After a full half-hour of fighting, Faye Yardley finally finished off the Octopoid Monster with its vigorous Life Force.

[You have slain the contaminated octopus. Decompose?]

"Yes."

Her Talent triggered... Doubling the loot.

"Energy Baryte! I can finally build my Energy Defense Tower." Faye Yardley thought the other items were so-so, but the Energy Baryte was the real prize.

Killing Sea Monsters could, or perhaps would definitely, yield Energy Baryte. This made Faye Yardley eager to go out and hunt a few more right away.

Meanwhile, Logan Langdon, who had been watching from a distance, saw the Sea Monster disappear, and his expression soured.

’A pretty girl is cutest when she’s sweet and gentle, of course. A little cold and proud is also acceptable. But one who seems to be on par with my own abilities... I don’t like that so much.’

’If a woman like that were to get close to me, she’d be too possessive. She’d demand my undivided attention.’

’Still, it’s not like I can’t try to get to know her first.’

’Of course, if I managed to conquer a woman like this, making her utterly devoted and obedient to my every command... the sense of accomplishment would be completely unmatched by any other woman.’

It had to be said, he was now extremely interested in Faye Yardley.

Faye Yardley had no idea what he was thinking, but she could feel someone watching her from a distance. Her senses were always sharper during combat.

She was actually quite satisfied that Logan Langdon had merely watched from afar instead of presumptuously rushing in to "help." If she couldn’t win, she would have run. She didn’t want to owe anyone any favors, especially not a man who was a "friend to all women."

Storing everything in her backpack, Faye Yardley was in an excellent mood.

She would go back and ask Gavin Donovan to check if his senior had any Energy Baryte, and if he was willing to sell. She could trade an Arrow Tower for it; that definitely wouldn’t be a bad deal for him.

’Of course, if he doesn’t need an Arrow Tower, he can ask for something else.’

Although her Talent had given her an extra Energy Baryte, she still didn’t have enough to build the Energy Defense Tower.

She’d also ask Zachary Pierce if he had any. If so, she could convert her entire share of their profits into Energy Baryte.

"Sister, you’re back! Are you hurt?"

"Not at all. I’m perfectly fine, don’t worry."

After leaving a message for Gavin Donovan, she got a reply saying he would go ask.

Zachary Pierce, on the other hand, agreed readily. He also asked if she knew the specific use for Energy Baryte.

Faye Yardley didn’t hide anything on that front, directly taking a picture of the Energy Protection Tower Blueprint and sending it to him.

These kinds of blueprints were single-use, so there was no way Faye Yardley would trade it away without using it herself.

Even if she had an extra one after both she and her brother had their own, she had no intention of trading it away at the moment.

After all, it was hard to say how large an area a single Energy Protection Tower could defend.

An Arrow Tower needed to be restocked with wood and iron blocks to produce new Arrows after firing. The Energy Protection Tower would probably need to be periodically recharged with Energy Baryte as well.

’When will I ever have my own Energy Baryte mine?’
