Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Frozen, Encounter
Faye Yardley didn’t go back inside her hut either. Instead, she went to an open area on the raft, took out her longsword, and began to practice.
Although she hadn’t learned from a longsword-type Skill Book, with her Basic Martial Arts foundation and the experience she gained killing zombies with a longsword in the Dungeon, she wielded the blade with a natural air of power.
The down jacket became restrictive as she trained, so she was soon wearing just a simple sweatsuit. She didn’t feel the cold at all. In fact, as her workout continued, the heat radiating from her body met the cold air, making it look like she was steaming.
Over by the canopy, Willow Yardley, who was fishing, would occasionally turn to check on her. Seeing how hard she was trying to get stronger brought an inexplicable sense of gratification to her face.
At 6 PM sharp, Willow Yardley called a halt to the high-intensity training.
"Big Sis, you should go take a shower and rest. I’ll have dinner ready soon."
"Thanks."
After emerging from the bathroom, Faye Yardley was refreshed and clean again.
Then, she prepared the things for her brother.
An unactivated robot could be packed into a Red Envelope and sent. Then she added the two blueprints she got today for her brother, along with some of the vegetables, mushrooms, watermelons, and melons she’d harvested on the island. On a whim, she threw in a dozen beers.
She also crafted an Arrow Tower, a small wooden boat, a High Level Fish Spear, a Fire Pit, and a Basic Iron Axe, stuffed them all into a single Red Envelope, and sent it over.
Her brother’s call came through quickly, and at the same time, he sent a Red Envelope back.
"Faye, what happened to your face? And why are there so many bumps on your head?" Ethan Yardley had been about to say something else, but the sight of his sister startled him, and he couldn’t help but worry. "Did you run into other people? Did someone beat you up?"
"No, that’s not it! Just let me explain. How am I supposed to answer so many questions at once?"
Faye Yardley then recounted her treasure-hunting trip to the island using an Ordinary Island Entry Order, explaining why she looked so battered. She mentioned that she’d gotten a Silver Treasure Box out of it, and that it had contained all sorts of good stuff. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Then she turned the camera toward Willow in the kitchen. "Brother, this is my housekeeping intelligent robot. Her name is Willow Yardley now. You can set the robot’s gender yourself, you know."
She then told her brother everything she knew about the robots.
While they talked, she didn’t forget to claim her brother’s Red Envelope. But seeing the single, lonely wooden crate inside, Faye Yardley couldn’t help but feel a pang of pity for her brother’s miserable situation.
"Bro, do you only manage to fish up one crate a day?"
"Not really. I was hunting fish and shrimp directly in the sea earlier. This is just what I caught in my spare time. I usually get two or three."
"Oh, okay. Well, I’ll use the rest of my Red Envelope slots for today to send you wood."
After chatting with her brother a little more, Faye Yardley happily ended the call.
After dinner, it was time for her evening training session with Gavin Donovan.
Meanwhile, Hailey Miles’s raft had run into other people’s rafts—two of them at once, on her left and right.
There was still some distance between them, but they could all see the figures on the other rafts.
This made Hailey Miles feel both expectant and nervous.
"Hey! Can the people over there hear me?"
Hailey Miles heard it—the rough voice of a man. She didn’t dare answer.
But someone on the other raft shouted back, "Loud and clear! Hey there!"
It was the voice of a relatively young man.
Hailey Miles looked from side to side. The three rafts formed a triangle, so everyone could see each other.
’A lone girl encountering two men... am I really not going to get bullied?’
’There’s still distance between us, and the rafts have stopped moving, but more and more ice is forming on the sea. What do I do when people can walk right across the ice?’
Quite a few people were in the same situation as her; otherwise, Zachary Pierce wouldn’t have gone out of his way to warn Faye Yardley to be careful.
After all, not everyone’s intentions were pure.
Faye Yardley was wary of this, but not completely intimidated. After all, according to them, her combat power was quite high.
Dealing with ordinary people would be as easy as slicing through melons and vegetables.
After all, many ordinary people weren’t as dangerous as zombies.
Besides, it was actually very difficult for others to forcibly board a raft without the owner’s permission.
If someone approaching the raft asked something like, "Can I come aboard?" even a vague "mhm" from the raft’s owner would be interpreted by the System as consent.
’Huh, I should probably mention this in the group chat and the public channel. Whether anyone else notices is up to fate.’
After her training, it was already past 9 PM, which was also the liveliest time on the public channel.
"Willow, are you able to post on the public channel in your name?"
Willow Yardley nodded. "I can, as long as you permit it, Big Sis. You should go get washed up."
"Okay, I’ll grant you the permissions. Mention the thing about needing the raft owner’s consent to board another person’s raft." After saying that, Faye Yardley went back to her hut to shower.
When she came out, Willow Yardley said with a smile, "I’ve already posted the reminder. Hailey Miles, the one on your blacklist, specifically asked if others can’t board if you don’t agree. You can tell she’s desperate. I didn’t reply to her, though. Replying to people on the blacklist also requires your permission, Big Sis."
"Good. Don’t worry about her. It’s not like anyone knows everything right now anyway. It’s perfectly normal not to get an answer."
Willow Yardley had her lie down on the sofa, then sat beside her and naturally began to massage her muscles, loosening up her stiff limbs.
"Willow, you know how to do so many things."
"I’m merely proficient in domestic matters. There is still much I need to learn."
"No need to be so modest. By the way, do you like the room I decorated for you?"
"I like it very much. Thank you, Big Sis."
’Having someone to help massage your sore muscles after a high-intensity workout is such a blissful feeling.’
Faye Yardley didn’t even know when she fell asleep. When she woke up the next day, she was already in her own bed.
「At four in the morning.」
She pulled open the curtains. Outside, everything had turned into a vast expanse of white.
It was as if she were the only person left in the world.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. A knock came at the door, and she soon heard Willow Yardley’s voice. "Are you up, Big Sis? Breakfast is ready."
"Okay."
Faye Yardley couldn’t help but feel happy. She still had Willow Yardley by her side, and her brother was waiting for her not too far away.
"Big Sis, we can’t fish today, but we can try to break the ice on the sea and catch fish that way."
"Really? That sounds fun."
As fun as it sounded, she first followed her schedule and did her morning exercises with Gavin Donovan.
When the morning exercises were over, Faye Yardley wiped the sweat from her forehead and heard Gavin Donovan say, "Boss, my second martial brother ran into someone else yesterday. He boarded their raft, and then the System prompted that if both parties agree, they can merge their rafts. After merging, they can live together."
