Chapter 52: Chapter 52: This Is Way Too Good
As it turned out, no one had found one yet. Or, if they had, they weren’t looking to trade it.
So, after waiting for a while, Faye Yardley still hadn’t received any trade notifications from the marketplace.
She sighed. ’It’s never that easy, is it?’
In fact, a quick glance at the regional channel would reveal that most people were still just struggling to survive.
Faye Yardley didn’t check the public channel. ’I won’t bother my brother just yet,’ she thought. ’I’ll wait until after six tonight to call him. That will maximize the value.’
She’d already hit the jackpot with the Ordinary Island Entry Order. ’What amazing things will I get from the Refined Island Entry Order?’
Sure enough, an unexpected windfall only makes you eager for the next one.
Faye Yardley composed herself and went outside to join Willow Yardley, taking out the special fishing rod to fish alongside her.
"Sister, you should eat something," Willow Yardley said, looking at her earnestly. "What would you like? I just caught an eel. How does pan-fried eel sound?"
Faye Yardley was a little surprised, then smiled. "Yes, thank you. Also, I have a few questions. Can you see my personal status directly? And can you use the warehouse? Do you have your own backpack for storage?"
"I’m a housekeeper-type robot, so you can grant me certain permissions on the raft, Sister. That way, I can help you monitor the marketplace, the regional channel, and organize the warehouse. I do have my own backpack, but it can only hold food and seeds; nothing else can be stored in it. If you give me the food and seeds, they won’t spoil while in my backpack."
Faye Yardley was thrilled. "Wow, really? That’s amazing! Let me ask you a blunt question, though. Will you ever betray me?"
Willow Yardley gently shook her head. "Never. Once bound, my existence is tied to yours, Sister. If you’re gone, I disappear. So if you encounter any other intelligent robots out there, don’t be too quick to trust them."
"Okay, thank you." Faye Yardley wasn’t sure if she was being told the truth, but as Willow Yardley spoke, she noticed a new entry under her personal Attributes: Attachment (Willow Yardley - Destructible).
She also found a detailed description confirming that Willow Yardley couldn’t harm her.
She could destroy the robot before her, but the robot was incapable of doing anything to harm her.
Faye Yardley thought this was a great setup. At least now she had someone on the raft she could trust one hundred percent, even if that ’someone’ was a robot.
Even so, Faye Yardley didn’t grant her full access to the warehouse. Willow Yardley would need her permission to handle important items and blueprints.
She handed over ninety percent of the food and all the seeds to Willow Yardley, who would now be in charge of her three daily meals and all planting tasks.
However, she kept the Mysterious Fish from the Lake of Talents and the dried fish from the ruined fishing village for herself.
Willow Yardley seemed very happy as she went to prepare their meal. Left alone to watch two fishing rods, Faye Yardley felt a little bored and opened the group chat.
Wade Warren: How’s everyone’s haul? It’s almost three p.m., and I’ve only caught three chests. The stuff inside was pretty underwhelming, just barely enough to get by for the day.
Gavin Donovan: Mr. Warren, if you can swim, you should just get in the water. The temperature drop has even caused some floating ice to appear, and I’ve noticed the fish and shrimp have gotten sluggish. If you want a meal, you can just go in and grab them.
Leo Sloan: Donovan’s right. As long as you don’t run into a corrupted Sea Monster, the regular fish and shrimp are easy to deal with. You can even chop fish in the water with an Iron Axe. freeweɓnøvel.com
Wade Warren: Alright, thanks for the valuable advice. I’m going to go warm up.
Bonnie Callahan: You guys are so brave! Isn’t the water freezing?
Leo Sloan: Actually, the water feels a bit warmer than the air.
Bonnie Callahan: Now you’re making me want to try it.
Faye Yardley blinked as she read. ’Maybe I should give it a try, too.’
Huh?
A fishing rod twitched.
Faye Yardley immediately pulled it in. It was a Wooden Treasure Chest.
She set the chest aside and pulled in the other line. This time, she’d caught a black pearl the size of a pigeon’s egg.
"Wow, it’s gorgeous."
[Obtained: High-Quality Black Pearl x1]
Thinking of the Invitation Card, Faye Yardley felt this Black Pearl would make a good gift.
’A suitable gift... I don’t even know Islander 98, so how would I know what’s suitable?’
’I should prepare a few options before I go. Then I can pick the right one based on my intuition after I meet them.’
She happily put the pearl away just as Willow Yardley came to call her for the meal. "Sister, go on and eat. I’ll handle things here."
"Aren’t you going to eat with me?"
Willow Yardley blinked, a slight smile playing on her lips. "You don’t need to worry about me, Sister. I don’t require food, except in special circumstances."
"What kind of special circumstances?"
"When you have guests over and you don’t want them to know I’m a robot, of course."
Faye Yardley’s eyes widened. "That’s... incredible!"
’Such a well-thought-out design.’
’I love it!’
When she got to the dining area, Faye Yardley found not just the pan-fried eel, but also stir-fried cabbage, seaweed and egg drop soup, rice, and even a plate of sliced watermelon.
She happily ate every last bite, her Hunger Level rising to exactly 90.
Standing before the warehouse cabinet, Faye Yardley had no trouble transferring the Mysterious Fish into storage. But when she took out the dried fish to put it away, she heard a soft MEOW.
There was a hint of urgency in the sound.
Hm?
’Where did that meow come from?’
Then Faye Yardley remembered the palm-sized Bronze Cat Statue she’d fished up. ’It couldn’t have been the statue that made that sound, could it?’
With that thought, she started looking for the Bronze Cat Statue. She’d forgotten where she’d casually set it down, but eventually found it behind a cushion on the swing chair.
"You want the dried fish?"
"MEOW~"
Faye Yardley nearly threw the statue in her hand across the room, but she managed to stop herself at the last second.
’That scared the life out of me!’
’Goes to show you can’t apply common sense to anything in this Survival World.’
After a moment’s thought, Faye Yardley took out a piece of dried fish and placed it in front of the statue.
She didn’t see it move at all. There was just a soft MEOW, and the dried fish was gone.
[You have gained the Cat’s Friendship. Raft’s resistance to monsters has been slightly enhanced.]
"Ahem..." Faye Yardley placed the Bronze Cat Statue on the coffee table. "Perhaps you need a bit of warmth."
"MROW~"
Faye Yardley found it amazing; she could actually feel its contentment.
She decided against feeding it another piece of dried fish. ’Even if I want to build up goodwill, I shouldn’t do it all at once,’ she reasoned. ’What if it gets full? Or what if I run out, and have nothing to feed it next time?’
’Sustainable development is the only way to go!’
