Chapter 144: Chapter 144: No Way, What a Coincidence?
Three peaceful days passed, but the temperature grew higher with each one.
Faye Yardley’s brother had pulled her into his team’s group chat, which had a one-hundred-person limit established with a large group chat voucher he’d bought with points.
As for the thousand-person supergroup, Faye had no intention of joining the crowd. She didn’t want to get to know too many people; there was simply no need.
Right now, the large groups, small groups, and other channels were all filled with cries about the heat. People felt like they were about to melt.
Ethan Yardley was supplying ice blocks for free in the group chats. Even on the trading platform, he only listed them for one piece of wood per ice block—a truly cheap price.
He implemented a purchase limit, allowing each person to exchange for only two blocks per day. This was to ensure more people could get some.
This gesture alone made his fame in District 101 skyrocket.
Even more people were now trying to get into his thousand-person supergroup.
’He bought the Seawater Ice Block schematic at a small shop in Serenia, so he only has one copy. It would be great if there was a schematic replication function. With Aridia’s huge population, surely someone’s Talent will unlock replication, right?’
’Then, other useful schematics could be replicated a few times. Even one extra copy would be excellent.’
She mentioned the matter to Zachary Pierce and then stopped worrying about it.
That was how it was with many things; you wouldn’t even think about the possibility of such a special Talent until you were faced with a problem it could solve.
Faye Yardley thought of the Talent Stone she possessed, and her mind drifted to Bella Dillon, from whom she hadn’t heard recently. She sighed softly. ’I really am not suited to knowing too many people.’
She found it hard to be ruthless toward people she had crossed paths with, especially those who had been friendly to her.
"Sister, the jujubes are ripe. The apple tree has grown taller and is flowering, and the cherry blossoms have bloomed too. Do you want to go to the planting room and see?"
Faye didn’t feel like moving. "Just cut a few cherry blossom branches and put them in a vase on the coffee table."
"Alright."
Nowadays, Faye Yardley only fished for treasure chests during two windows: 6 to 8 AM and 4 to 6 PM. Otherwise, it was just too hot.
Never mind treasure chests; even the seafood catch was extremely sparse.
The temperature was so high that marine life no longer ventured near the surface.
Of course, she could fish at night and sleep during the day, but Faye had her own schedule to keep. Her two daily trips to the training room were a must.
Her control over her body was much stronger now. ’Maybe I can invite Gavin Donovan over to spar,’ she considered.
"Did your senior brother agree to join us?"
Henry Lewis’s expression stiffened slightly, but there was no hiding it. "Mr. Langdon, my senior brother said he’s used to being on his own and has no desire to join any team."
Logan Langdon was actually quite displeased to hear this, but he maintained a magnanimous facade. "Someone like Zephyr Sterling would indeed prefer to go it alone. Being a lone wolf has its advantages, but so does being in a team. You should still do your best to convince your senior brother of the benefits."
"Yes, I’ll go talk to my senior brother again."
"I hear your junior brother is also in District 101?"
’Which bastard has been running their mouth to Logan Langdon?’ Henry Lewis cursed inwardly, but his outward reply was calm. "My junior brother has already joined Ethan Yardley’s team. He joined a while ago; by the time I found out, it was too late."
If it weren’t for Henry Lewis’s own considerable skills and his well-developed raft, Logan Langdon wouldn’t have let him join the team in the first place.
However, he was more interested in recruiting people like Zephyr Sterling and Gavin Donovan, who could serve purely as enforcers.
Of course, he wasn’t worried about someone like Henry Lewis being too ambitious; in fact, people like him were actually easier for Logan Langdon to control.
Meanwhile, Zephyr Sterling, the very person on their minds, was on a call with Gavin Donovan.
"Gavin, how are things over there with Ethan Yardley? And are you sure giving me all these ice blocks won’t cause you any trouble?"
Gavin Donovan grinned. "Don’t worry about it, senior brother. Go ahead and use them. The boss is really good to all of us. We each get at least twenty large ice blocks a day, and he doesn’t care what we do with them.
He even said that everyone has friends and family, so it’s fine if we stay on his raft and just give our whole share away. I only need to keep two blocks to cool down when I sleep; the rest are all for you.
I’ve been using the training room on the boss’s raft during the day, and I’m a lot stronger than I was before—not just by a little bit, either. Someday, when I get my own Invitation Card, I’ll invite you to come over."
Seeing how well his junior brother was doing and how happy he was with Ethan Yardley’s group, Zephyr Sterling felt much more at ease. "Alright. In that case, I won’t stand on ceremony with you."
Gavin Donovan felt he had absolutely made the right choice in listening to his boss and joining her brother’s team. His new boss, Ethan, had few demands, and his actions truly embodied the principle of sharing one’s success with the world, benefiting everyone around him.
Besides, while the other brothers on the team had different personalities, they were all good-natured people he could get along with.
Faye Yardley felt she couldn’t go on like this. Her days were routine, but the intense heat made her feel restless and stuffy even indoors. After a moment’s thought, she took out an Ordinary Island Entry Order. ’Maybe I’ll head to the island after lunch.’
She retied her hair, refastening the Ruby Hairpin.
After she confirmed using the Ordinary Island Entry Order, a system prompt appeared: [You have activated an Ordinary Island Entry Order. You will arrive at an island in 1 hour. We wish you a pleasant trip!]
’Huh, only an hour to get there this time?’ freewebnøvel.coɱ
She then felt the raft noticeably change direction and begin to accelerate.
She went downstairs with a spring in her step, enjoyed a pleasant lunch, and still had enough time to sit and zone out on the balcony swing.
"Sister, where are we going?"
"I don’t know. We’re definitely docking at an island pier, but as for which island it is, I have no idea."
"Then you should prepare some extra things to take to the island, Sister."
"Okay. The skewers I had you prepare for the children last time weren’t needed. They won’t go bad in the warehouse, so I’ll bring them along this time."
"Is there anything else you need me to prepare?"
Faye Yardley shook her head. "No, I’ve already prepared weapons, food, and medicine. Beyond that, there’s no telling what we might need."
"Then are you going to take Eamon with you, Sister?"
Faye paused. She hadn’t even considered bringing anyone else to the island.
"Why don’t you ask him? When we dock, he can go ashore if he wants. If not, he’s welcome to stay here."
The raft sailed into a vast, white mist, and the temperature outside plummeted instantly. Faye Yardley went out onto the deck and glanced at her watch. The compass was now pointing northwest.
’To be honest, she had no idea what use the direction was. After all, there were no fixed coordinates to reference in the vast, open sea.’
[Dear player, you are about to arrive at Isle 1004. Please prepare for docking.]
"1004?!"
Faye Yardley’s eyes widened instantly. ’No way... It can’t be... What a coincidence?!’
