Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Logan Langdon’s Invitation Again
As Dahlia White spoke, she suddenly saw a familiar figure on the center screen, standing on one leg and looking like they were about to collapse.
She didn’t care if strangers lived or died, but she couldn’t let an acquaintance die.
Since Dahlia White had given her this reminder, there was probably a special meaning behind it.
She didn’t throw down the little red flower. Instead, she took the come on beans from her backpack and secretly tossed them down.
The moment they were dropped from the cloud, Dahlia White sniffed the air. "I smell something delicious."
Then Faye Yardley noticed that on all four screens, the giants were looking up at the sky, so she peeked her head out from the cloud.
Down below, as the giants raised their heads, the counting started again. The cleverer players immediately sprinted over to touch a giant’s foot, and the instant they made contact, they were teleported away. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
’So this game is over after just one round?’
’The come on beans were only the size of soybeans when I took them out. How are they getting bigger as they fall?’
All four giants began to move, their heads tilted up toward the sky. Naturally, every single person below ran toward the nearest giant.
The cloud was also gradually descending, and the people on the ground could feel an immense pressure building.
They could only move when the counting was happening; otherwise, they had to stand perfectly still like statues.
Soon, the giants collided with one another, and by then, the come on beans had grown to the size of basketballs.
The cloud was descending quickly, and Faye Yardley felt like she was about to hit the top of the giants’ heads.
Then, many Cloud Sprites emerged and began to fight the giants for the beans. Below them, the humans did their best to touch a giant each time the counting started, though some were stepped on instead.
But when a giant lifted its foot, the ground underneath was empty—no gory mist, no sign of a body. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
’I can only hope they survived.’
The giants and the Cloud Sprites had started a brawl over the come on beans, and amidst the chaos, Faye Yardley’s time was up. The system sent her down from the cloud to join the game.
Her game was over in a flash. The counting began the moment she landed, and with a flying leap, she touched a giant’s calf and was immediately sent back to her raft.
The public chat had long since exploded.
[Oh my god, believe it or not, I got sent back after a giant stomped on me. I’ve got some internal injuries, but that’s way better than being dead. At least I can still move and bitch about it.]
[Right? Who could’ve seen that coming? What the hell were they even fighting over?]
[That stuff that just appeared in the sky... could it have been from the person who went up into the clouds at the start?]
[What are you guys talking about? Moving giants? Someone ascending into the sky? Don’t we all just have to wait for the counting to start before we can move? And the giants are totally motionless, okay?]
[What giants? I had werewolves.]
[Holy crap, I ran so hard to survive I nearly passed out.]
[Feels like we’re all playing different games. I just came from a round of Red Light, Green Light.]
[Yeah, we really aren’t. I just got out of a game called "The Old Wolf Tells Time."]
[Looks like even Red Light, Green Light has different versions. The giant on my field didn’t move, but the music got so loud I could barely hear the count.]
[If that stuff was really thrown down by the expert who went up into the sky, then please accept my eternal gratitude. Thank you for saving my worthless ass.]
Faye Yardley smiled faintly when she read that. ’Good. At least I didn’t add to the chaos and get more people killed.’
She really hadn’t felt very involved in this minigame at all.
Since she basically hadn’t done anything in the game, she was now curled up on the swing chair on her balcony.
DING-A-LING~
Faye Yardley answered the video call, and Bonnie Callahan’s grateful face appeared. "Babe, if it wasn’t for that damage reflection card and those snack beans you gave me, I’m afraid I would’ve been done for by the werewolf’s claws."
"I’m just glad you’re okay. So, is the game time over? Is everyone out?"
"Probably. I met the conditions to clear it, so I got out early. My arms and legs were like jelly and my mind was a blank. I’m only just now pulling myself together."
"As long as you’re okay."
Bonnie Callahan felt that a simple "thank you" was not nearly enough, but not saying it would make her feel even worse. ’She’s racking up quite a debt. But as long as she stays alive, there’s a future, and a chance to repay these favors.’
Someone had been pinging her in the small group chat, so Faye Yardley opened it.
Kyle Lewis: @Faye Yardley, Miss Yardley, help! Do you have any Bandages or Hemostatic Pills? I can’t find any on the Trade Market.
Wade Warren: Sorry, I used mine already. I feel like I’m gonna fucking die.
Faye Yardley: I do. Accept the designated Red Envelope.
Kyle Lewis: Thanks.
After taking the Red Envelope, Kyle Lewis went silent.
Faye Yardley sighed. ’What about the others?’
’At least all their avatars are still active, which proves they’re alive. It doesn’t matter how they’re getting by; just being alive right now is a matter of incredible Luck.’
DING-A-LING~
Another call came in. Faye Yardley frowned slightly at the caller’s name but decided to answer it anyway.
Logan Langdon’s face appeared in the air before her. He smiled. "Gorgeous Yardley, you’re incredible. The only person in the entire district to get the little red flower award."
"You flatter me. It was just a stroke of luck."
"Luck is a component of strength, you know. No need to be so modest."
Faye Yardley simply smiled and remained silent. ’I really don’t get why he’s calling me.’
’When you don’t know someone’s intentions, it’s best to stay quiet. If they really want something, they’ll spit it out eventually.’
Sure enough, Logan Langdon didn’t disappoint. He got straight to the point. "Gorgeous Yardley, someone with your strength and Luck would be a perfect fit for our group. I am once again sincerely inviting you to join our team."
Faye Yardley refused again. "Thanks, but I have no intention of joining anyone else’s team. If I wanted to be in one, I’d just create my own and be the leader."
Logan Langdon’s eyes narrowed for a moment, then he smiled. "That makes sense. Someone as capable as you, Gorgeous Yardley, probably doesn’t want to be anyone’s subordinate. But I can make you an offer: if you join my team, I can give you the third-in-command position."
"Thanks, but I prefer the leader’s position."
’The nerve of this guy. He’s so thick-skinned. How many times have I turned him down now?’
"That’s a real shame. Well, if you ever change your mind, Gorgeous Yardley, you can always reconsider my offer. The door to my team is always open for you."
Faye Yardley gave a faint smile, and the two of them tacitly ended the call.
Perhaps sensing her confusion, Willow Yardley came over and said, "Sister, a lot of people are thanking you in the regional chat right now. Logan Langdon probably wanted to recruit you to cash in on that and boost his own reputation."
"Oh, so that’s what it was. Thanks, Willow. Otherwise, I would’ve been wondering about that for ages. A complete waste of time."
Willow Yardley gently pushed the swing chair, setting Faye Yardley into a gentle motion. "It’s only what I should be doing," she said softly.
’There’s no such thing as "should" in this world,’ Faye Yardley thought. ’Willow is just someone I happened to acquire and activate.’
