Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Red Envelopes, Red Envelopes, and Red Envelopes Again
[Ding! Your national cross-region trade is complete. Please claim your item.]
Faye Yardley let out a sound of surprise. After claiming the item, she found a familiar Invasion Card.
’Excellent. This is the third one. Hailey Miles, are you really that hard to kill? I just can’t seem to get rid of you.’
’Should I use it now?’
Faye Yardley immediately got out of bed and quickly changed. ’Why wait for the right time to kill someone? When the thought strikes, you act!’
She expertly typed in Hailey Miles’s name and clicked "Use."
[Hailey Miles’s raft has been merged. She is not the primary raft controller. Please enter the name of the primary controller.]
Faye Yardley felt as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on her head. After thinking about who might have merged rafts with Hailey Miles, she typed in "Xavier Thatcher."
[Confirm invasion of Xavier Thatcher’s raft?]
"No."
’I shouldn’t be so impulsive and use it right away. If she didn’t merge with Xavier Thatcher, it would be a huge waste.’
’Who can I ask?’
After thinking it over, she realized asking Eleanor Jonas was her most reliable option. She left a message: "Miss Jonas, I need to ask you something. Do you know who Hailey Miles merged her raft with?"
There was no immediate reply. Faye Yardley thought for a moment, then got up and went downstairs to the training room out back.
「Three hours later.」
Drenched in sweat, Faye Yardley returned to her bedroom. After a shower, she lay on her bed and checked her messages again.
She had missed calls and new messages.
Eleanor Jonas: "According to my intel, Hailey Miles has joined Logan Langdon’s team. However, she isn’t qualified to merge with Logan Langdon’s raft yet. She likely merged with his cousin, Hugh Langdon, who is also on the team. I can only confirm this with 85% certainty. I just got my hands on a new Invasion Card today. If you still need one, I can send it to you."
Faye Yardley replied instantly: "Thank you, Miss Jonas. I still need the Invasion Card. Please send it over."
Faye didn’t need to pay extra for this transaction with Eleanor Jonas; she could use the proceeds from their ongoing partnership to cover it.
Of course, she could tell that Eleanor Jonas didn’t approve of her using an Invasion Card to kill Hailey Miles.
’But at this point, it’s not a matter of whether I *want* to kill her, but whether I *can*.’
’Hailey Miles really lives up to her reputation as the female lead of a male-oriented story.’
’It’s already past midnight, yet surprisingly, everyone is still awake.’
Eleanor Jonas sent a Red Envelope directly, with a special message attached: "Use with caution!"
Faye Yardley smiled and accepted it cheerfully.
Her brother had also called her and followed up with a Red Envelope.
After she accepted and opened the Red Envelope, the item inside took her by surprise.
It was a ruby butterfly hairpin.
The system description read: [This is a hairpin that will bring you good luck as long as it is worn.]
’Good luck?! Can it enhance my Talent?’
’This can’t be the grand prize my brother won, can it?’
"Thank you, brother. It’s a very pretty hairpin."
He replied quickly: "I knew you’d like it. I traded for it with someone who came out of the fighting ring with me."
For a moment, Faye Yardley didn’t know whether to be touched or to curse her brother for being a fool.
There were messages from others in her friends list. Faye Yardley opened the one from Zachary Pierce and found, to her surprise, another Red Envelope.
Zachary Pierce’s Red Envelope contained a Crystal Arrow. The system description read: [This is no ordinary Arrow. It is more than just an Arrow.]
’That description is a little weird.’
’I’ll try it out at dawn.’
When she was training in the exercise room earlier, she could clearly feel how the increase in her four Attributes had boosted her strength.
’My archery should have improved significantly as well.’
She toyed with the Crystal Arrow in her hand for a while before storing it in her backpack.
"System, project the national channel onto the television, and also open the regional channel and the small group chat."
The television automatically turned on, showing the scrolling information of the national channel.
Faye Yardley’s gaze fell on the small group chat first.
Gavin Donovan: "I know about that. Our boss went to Islander 98’s banquet too. He even brought back a lot of the island’s specialty foods for us. Check it out. [Photo.jpg]"
Wade Warren: "The world of the big shots is always so different from us small fries. Just another day of envying the powerful."
Kyle Lewis: "That cake looks so delicious."
Bonnie Callahan: "Honestly, with the help of our group owner and the other bosses, we’re already doing better than most people. We should be content. The temperature went up another degree today. Did you all claim the Ice Basin from the Red Envelope Pierce sent out this morning?"
Wade Warren: "Totally. I claimed it. And Yardley’s Red Envelope with the ice blocks, too. You can’t eat them, but they work great. I can put one by my bed now and get a good night’s sleep."
Faye Yardley: "What are the national and regional channels saying about the banquet held by Islander 98 during the day?"
After a string of "Hey, group owner" greetings, Bonnie Callahan replied: "Well, some guy started showing off, saying he was able to trade a single piece of wood for vegetable seeds and other magical little items at the banquet. That started a huge discussion."
Leo Sloan added: "They’re also saying you can only get the good stuff by clearing the fighting ring challenges. With so many regions, a lot of people received Invitation Cards. Someone also posted photos of your profile and back, saying you’re the real hidden boss, and that you’re close with Islander 98. I saved them. I’ll post them so you can see for yourself, group owner. Is this you? [Photo.jpg]x3"
Faye Yardley was genuinely surprised that someone had taken photos of her. It was obviously a candid shot; only someone who knew her well would be able to recognize her. She had no idea how Leo Sloan had managed to identify her. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Kyle Lewis: "Whoa, that’s really our group owner?! A boss has been among us this whole time."
’Whoever posted these photos didn’t get a front view, but not for a lack of trying. They probably just couldn’t get close enough.’
Bonnie Callahan: "Faye, you need to watch out. Hailey Miles is going nuts on the national and regional channels looking for you. She’s saying you’re the one trying to kill her."
Faye Yardley: "How is she so sure it’s me?"
Bonnie Callahan: "[Screenshot.jpg] She said on the regional channel that she saw the photos Mr. Sloan just posted. She also asked Logan Langdon about it. She’s positive that person is you. Then she searched your name, saw your profile picture, and now she’s completely sure. She’s calling you an attempted murderer."
Faye Yardley smiled faintly. ’So that’s how it is.’
Then she posted a message on both the national and regional channels.
[Hailey Miles, I hear you’re certain I’m the one trying to kill you, and you’re boasting that you won’t let me get away with it. See this? [Invitation Card.jpg] Since you’re not planning on letting me go, I’ll invite you to my raft. Do you dare come?] x3
After Faye Yardley posted her message, the night owls on the public channels erupted.
A deathmatch between two beautiful women—who wouldn’t want to watch that?
Besides, life here was monotonous enough. A little excitement was exactly what they craved. They all liked and upvoted the message to pin it to the top, ensuring Hailey Miles would see it the moment she looked at the public channels in the morning.
Ethan Yardley’s call came through immediately. Faye Yardley answered it to see her brother’s dark expression as he roared, "Faye Yardley, what do you think you’re doing?! Is your life too easy? Join my team right now. Come over to me."
"Not a chance."
