Chapter 318: Confirmation
They should have gasped, but instead, their teeth gritted in anger as they saw how the 11 elders saw them as a joke. They laughed, pointed fingers at them, then laughed again. It was unacceptable. But, they were able to compose themselves as they realized that it was nothing compared to what they would do.
However, that reaction only came from the normal soldiers. The battalion commanders, the Supreme Generals, still had their solemn faces. They had controlled themselves as this was just a basic form of provocation.
Ghon watched them carefully. He was one of the people who looked seriously at the 11 Elders who stood a distance away from them. They were all alone, with no backups to support them. Ghon could see it too; the eyes of the battalion commanders were complacent while serious. And just as he thought of it, he couldn’t help but snicker.
The Southern Continent already had obvious weaknesses, but there was another one that he knew well. The Southern Continent’s divine beast’s uncooperative action would bring the Southern Continent’s defeat. Hence, as he knew this information, even with suspicion, he was still confident that the side he chose would win.
His face was just as serious as everyone who had composed themselves with the simple provocation. And not just a provocation; he knew well that this was just a bluff. But even so, as he was not confident of knowing everything, he couldn’t deny that he was bothered by it. They still had confidence, which could have bugged him.
’They are smart, but why are they doing this? I cannot feel any other presence on the Southern Continent apart from the 11 Elders. I succeeded in drawing the array formation on the whole continent and filled it with the Qi in the surroundings through conversion and amplification. But, why are the 11 Elders acting this way? Had they lost their minds?’ Levitate thought, his face showed concern and confusion, but he recollected himself just in a split a second.
’Southern Continent would still be under the Northern Continent, and they could live if they just surrendered. The Northern Continent just did all of those "atrocities" to prepare for this war, to finish the legacy of His Majesty. So, if he succeeds, everything will return to normal. The 11 Elders could have their power back if they just pledged to the Northern Continent, to the Dan Bloodline.’
Levitate sighed as his face turned back to normal, one with no expression to read. He was disappointed with the 11 Elders. Although he didn’t know them well, for them to keep order in their land was already proof that they were wise leaders.
"What kind of bullshit is this? This... all of this... why are you still trying your best? I can see it well. I know that your faces were just friendly and silly, but the hostility was still there. You couldn’t hide it from me, the Blood Master! Do you think I will let you go after doing this?" Demon Sword roared. She jumped high above the 11 Elders. She stood on a huge boulder, looking down at them with her fiery eyes.
"I can understand that this is your act of retaliation. But, come on... Put up a fight... Don’t just go with those mouths. And why the hell is there no other people here except you 11?!"
Everyone gasped. They didn’t expect that the 11 Elders would face the force of the Northern Continent by themselves. Moreover, they didn’t expect the Southern Continent to be this foolish. The converters couldn’t relate to it as the Western Continent at least fought for their land. But for the 11 Elders to be doing this, having silly faces and confidence that didn’t have any basis, how foolish had they been?
"This number... The Northern Continent prepared this number of warriors, and soldiers, to make sure that we could lock in success. Even though it was unneeded, we still did it to make your honor significant as well. We didn’t underestimate you, but this... This insult is unacceptable." Demon Sword tightened her grip on her hilt.
For her, this was an insult. The Southern Continent had no right to face them with just a small number. And for them to be still silent after cussing at them was intolerable.
"Well... anyway, this is your choice. So better face it properly."
Boom!
Ghuk!
With her killing intent, the Demon Sword exploded, turning the surroundings red with deadly pressure. The 11 Elders faced it, grumbling as they endured it. They were standing still, which irritated Demon Sword. Veins were already appearing on her skin.
"Demon Sword, endure it. You won’t get anything with anger. You can’t do anything to them. How about letting us think rationally first and having a talk with them? Even with how they pose, they don’t pose any threat to us. I had already spread my array formation across the continent, and I couldn’t feel any presence. The array formation is not perfect, which means that they could still hide from us. They are good at stealth techniques, after all. But, I believe in your ability. Since you sensed no one else here, let us be civil."
The First Elder, after listening to it, could only clear his throat. He stepped forward, attracting the two Supreme Generals’ attention. And as he walked before them, he again cleared his throat and lowered his guard.
"It may appear strange, but we are not welcoming you people. We only have one desire, and it is to be free from your oppressors, who were also oppressors of their own land. So please, before anything else, please leave our land."
Levitate paused and stared at the First Elder. In the corner of his lips, a side raised, then looked at him from head to toes. Again, Levitate paused and then scoffed. "What are you talking about? Your confidence is awful. Can’t you see what is happening here? We are calm, not because we are thinking of being kind to you, but we are calm because we simply want to finish these things already. But since you are standing here as if I am not a predator, how about I prove this to you?"
Levitate raised his hands and attempted to attack the First Elder, but before he could do it, a light and dark barrier appeared before the 11 Elders. It was a dome that seemed to have a purpose of protecting them, and just a second later, black arrows started raining from the sky.
Levitate and Demon Sword parried the black arrows and felt heavy Qi reinforced in them. Surprisingly, they had difficulty repelling them solely through physical strength. They compressed their Qi more, above what a potential Master Stage cultivator could do, and just as they completely cleaned the arrows that rained at them, they looked back at the 11 Elders, only to be surprised to see them disappear.
Levitate hissed, then looked back to their subordinates, but his eyes could only widen in shock as they were completely helpless with the black arrows. It was already expected, but it seemed he had unintentionally overlooked it. He sighed and flew while staring at the subordinates that had died. It seemed to be half of them. It was a full-scale rain of arrows after all.
"How is this ambush possible?" Demon Sword grumbled as she looked at the lower-ranking soldiers’ corpses. She could feel her blood boiling, but after remembering Levitate’s words, her veins could only peek while she held her rage.
"We underestimated the Southern Continent. How could the array formation that I established be useless?" Levitate roared as he tried to see where he overlooked something important. freёwebnoѵel.com
The grand array formation that he created had two effects: to weaken their enemies and to protect them. But, it seemed that the grand array formation was useless as its trace had disappeared after the black arrows’ rain.
Their enemies’ traces had also disappeared. After a minute, no sign of the 11 Elders could be felt, and Demon Sword’s face had only wrinkles from rage.
"These arrows were not normal. They were from darkness affinity... Physical attack to parry them was useless, and physical defense as well..." Demon Sword, who was a master on the battlefield, made her assessment.
Levitate nodded and then reinforced everyone’s morale as he created a grand array formation to protect them. But little did he know, it was useless as it disappeared after a minute. He was discombobulated. He looked in every direction to see who caused it, but he couldn’t find anyone.
"It was as if we had fallen into their trap..." Ghon mumbled to himself, then closed his eyes. He gritted his teeth and shouted, "This is unacceptable! How could you, Northern Continent soldiers, do nothing to them? You Supreme Generals, how could you be weak against the 11 Elders who were not even half of your capabilities! How could you be deceived by your own senses? Obviously, there was something wrong with the continent from the beginning, but you ignored that! It is obvious that the Southern Continent had the capability to fight back!" Ghon shouted from the depths of his lungs. His emotions were all into it, and that broke everyone’s shaky hearts. They were captured by his shout, but at the same time, they glared at him with disdain.
"How dare you disrespect the two Excellencies!" A battalion commander shouted, then thrust his sword at Ghon, making him cough blood.
"Fuck you, annoying Northerners..." Ghon mumbled before losing his breath.
