Chapter 804: Chapter 789: Ambushed on the Road (Part 1)

Old Zhao slowed down the armored vehicle as a small car lay horizontally ahead of them.

"What’s the situation? Was this car here when we came?" Wang Qiang, who had been sulking silently in the rear compartment throughout the journey, was unaware of the situation on the road.

"No, it was quite smooth when we came." Old Zhao carefully drove around the abandoned car.

From the outside, the vehicle showed no signs of collision or damage, as if it had been abandoned. However, the slightly ajar car doors caught the attention of Tang Xiaoquan, who was sitting in the passenger seat.

"There’s someone inside the car!" Although the car’s tinted windows were quite dark, obscuring the view inside, traces of human presence were still vaguely visible.

Like Wang Qiang, Tang Xiaoquan also noticed this situation. However, due to his vantage point, he saw more clearly. Not only was there someone inside, but they seemed to be dead, as they were either slumped on the seats or sprawled over the front dashboard.

"Holy shit, could these people be Spring Xiu’s gang? Haha, what did I say? Just as I thought, those who do bad things are doomed to perish. Look at this, trying to ambush us and ended up with nothing."

"It seems very likely to be Spring Xiu’s group. The zombies we encountered earlier might also be related to them." Old Zhao had been puzzled why zombies appeared on this seemingly peaceful suburban road. He was worried that something similar might happen at the villa.

Now it seems he was overthinking. These zombies weren’t wandering here aimlessly; they must have followed the scent of food.

"Uncle Zhao, stop the car. Qiang and I will go down to check the situation."

Tang Xiaoquan’s serious demeanor made Old Zhao realize he wasn’t joking.

Still, he had a slight concern. Even though he believed the former wouldn’t rashly make such a dangerous decision, he kindly reminded, "Xiao Tang, could it be a trap?"

Tang Xiaoquan also had doubts, but after observing, he shook his head, "Probably not. If the people in the car intended to ambush us, there’s no need to stay motionless for so long. To be safe, Uncle Zhao, stay in the car and keep it running. If anything happens, Qiang and I will retreat back."

Zhao Yunhai thought about it, too. Robbers aren’t likely to know they would take this road, even if they knew, wouldn’t need to rob this way, unless they’re incredibly patient, with nothing better to do than lay an ambush in this heavy snow.

"Alright, be careful."

Obviously, Old Zhao’s reminder didn’t concern them much. Wang Qiang was, of course, unconcerned; what nonsense about people still alive in the car setting a trap was in his eyes a baseless worry.

For Tang Xiaoquan, he felt the group abruptly appearing here was very likely Spring Xiu’s gang, who attacked the villa at night.

He had no idea why they met their fate here, nor did he care. To him, the more of them dead, the better.

At this moment, his only concern was whether he could find any clues about connections between Spring Xiu and Liu Fugui from this abandoned vehicle and its occupants, which led to his hurried pace, causing Wang Qiang behind him to grumble, "Hey, Quan, with the snow this deep, could you walk slower? You’d make a joke of yourself if you fell!"

Tang Xiaoquan’s purpose was quite clear. Ignoring the grumbling, he directly opened the door and crouched inside.

Everything inside the car seemed normal, lacking the bloody scene Tang Xiaoquan expected. But precisely because of this, he underestimated the situation.

Logically, if people were lying in the car in such a manner, there should be traces of blood when they’re unresponsive to their arrival. Otherwise, as Old Zhao suggested, were they lying in ambush?

With suspicion, Tang Xiaoquan planned to turn over the seemingly lifeless person in front of him to see if there were signs of bludgeoning. If there were, it might explain why they were here.

To facilitate this, Tang Xiaoquan placed his steel blade on the adjacent floor mat, freeing both hands to carefully turn over the person lying there. Once flipped, he was shocked.

Wang Qiang struggled through the snow, stepping one foot deep and the other shallow, suspecting Tang Xiaoquan was incredibly nimble like an animal.

Just as he lifted his gaze from the snow to the car in front, wanting to ask about the situation, he saw Tang Xiaoquan raising his hands, slowly retreating from the car. He raised his hand crossbow cautiously and asked in a deep voice, "What’s going on, Quan?"

"Nobody move! If you don’t want him dead, put down your weapons!"

"Yao Ruyi!" Wang Qiang was completely caught off guard by Yao Ruyi’s appearance, initially only stunned for a few seconds.

Ten seconds later, when he saw the opponent pointing a glaring hunting rifle at his brother’s head, anger surged through him as he swore, "Damn you, what the hell are you trying to do? Let Quan go."

"Don’t come any closer! If you take another step, I’ll blow his brains out!" Yao Ruyi’s vicious tone couldn’t have been more different from the helpless patient Tang Xiaoquan met a month ago in the hospital.

This was a typical example of like attracts like. With someone like Liu Fugui, how could one expect anything good from his people?

Yao Ruyi’s bare threat halted Wang Qiang’s steps, "Don’t act rashly. If you harm a hair on my brother’s head, I’ll..."

"Or what?" As he spoke, two more people slipped out of the car, one holding a gun aimed at Wang Qiang, and the other...

"Huang Yong!" Almost simultaneously, the people from the villa blurted out.

"Heh, does my appearance surprise you two that much?" Huang Yong’s words were still polite, but the coldness in his eyes was unchanged.

He wasted no words, immediately taking the hunting rifle from Yao Ruyi, pointing it firmly at Tang Xiaoquan’s chest, "I’ll count to three. If you don’t disarm and surrender by then, your brother’s death will be on your head."

"You..."

"One!"

"Bastard!"

"Two!"

"Wait, don’t! I surrender!"

"Very good! Yao, disarm him!" Seeing Yao Ruyi take the hand crossbow from Wang Qiang, he pushed Tang Xiaoquan towards him with a great shove. Due to the abrupt force and thick snow, Tang Xiaoquan nearly stumbled. Wang Qiang saw it and angrily shouted, "You..."

"Bang!" The subordinate watching Wang Qiang lifted his gun and struck him, "Shut your damn mouth!"

Huang Yong nodded satisfactorily before turning his attention to the armored vehicle, with a sinister grin on his lips, "The guy in the car, how long do you plan to stay hidden? Get out now and stop playing games with me!"
