Chapter 630: Chapter 630: Bustling Luochuan City
As soon as she got home, Yun Chan said, "Mom, Mr. Yang and I are going up the mountain to pick herbs. We’ll be back late, so you don’t have to wait for us tonight."
She wasn’t used to lying, and her cheeks were a little flushed.
Luckily, Wen Ying didn’t suspect anything. She nodded and said, "Alright! Then you two be careful, and bring some food with you up the mountain."
"Got it."
Yun Chan casually packed some food and water, then pulled Yang Cheng out the door.
The two of them first pretended to head for the back mountain, circled around from the foot of the slope, and came to the village entrance. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was around, they quietly got into the car.
The car started, and Yang Cheng carefully drove out. He’d run this road many times before, so he was already quite familiar with the route.
It was Yun Chan’s first time riding in a car, and she kept looking around nonstop, like a newborn kitten, full of curiosity about the world.
"Wife, how are you this cute?"
Yang Cheng chuckled and stepped on the gas to speed up.
He wanted to get to Luochuan as soon as possible so they could have more time together without anyone interrupting.
They chatted in the car, and time passed very quickly. Whatever Yun Chan asked, Yang Cheng patiently answered.
He didn’t know how long had passed; the sky had already started to darken when he finally pulled into a gas station.
Ever since he dealt with those people, this place had become a no-man’s land. But because so few people came and went, the gas station still had reserves.
Yang Cheng personally filled the tank, then glanced at the time—it was almost six o’clock.
As soon as he got in the car, Yun Chan immediately asked, "How much longer until we get there?"
"We’re already out of the mountains now. The rest of the way will be faster, a little over an hour and we’ll reach Luochuan City."
As Yang Cheng spoke, he floored the gas pedal and the car shot out.
Once they hit the flat main road, it was like he completely let himself go—the car was going so fast it felt like it might take off.
Yun Chan’s face was full of panic, and she said in a trembling voice, "Slow down, I’m a little scared."
"You can totally trust my driving. I’m just trying to save time."
As soon as he finished speaking, Yun Chan felt the car whoosh forward; her body swayed violently, and she almost banged her head.
In the end, it took them less than an hour to reach Luochuan City.
At this time of night, Luochuan City was still bright with lights. The shops along the streets were all open, and there were street vendors too. The endless flow of people and cars made everything dazzling.
After getting out of the car, everything around her felt so unfamiliar to Yun Chan. She liked this bustling, city feel, but it also made her heart race.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here."
Yang Cheng’s low voice sounded beside her as he took her small hand in his.
"It’s your first time in the city, of course you’re not used to it. When I first came to the city, I was just like you, I almost got lost."
"Good thing I have you with me. Otherwise I’d definitely get lost too."
Yun Chan showed a faint smile, her beautiful eyes full of happiness.
Yang Cheng patted her head and said gently, "Come on, I’ll take you to eat first, so you can try city food."
There were plenty of good eats in Luochuan City, but Yang Cheng still took her to the restaurant he’d been to a few times before.
"I first met Uncle Pan right here. I saw he only ordered one veggie dish, so I sent over a few meat dishes, then asked him to take me to Hidden Cloud Village."
He pointed at the restaurant in front of them, then held her hand and strode inside.
"You bought Uncle Pan off with just a few dishes? How come I never knew he was that kind of person."
Yun Chan looked unconvinced, sure that Yang Cheng must have used some other trick.
"Maybe it’s because I look too kind. Uncle Pan could tell I’m a good guy. If you don’t believe me, you can ask him when we go back."
As they talked, the two of them went in and were seated by the window—the exact same table he’d sat at the first time he came.
Although Yang Cheng had previously packed a lot of dishes from this restaurant and brought them back to the village, and Yun Chan had tasted a few bites and found them delicious, now that she was eating the food fresh from the kitchen, the flavor was on a whole different level.
Yun Chan was never one to indulge her appetite, but tasting something this good, she couldn’t help but dig in.
"Eat slower, try the specialties here first. Later I’ll take you to try the street stalls."
Yang Cheng lifted his hand and wiped the sauce from the corner of her lips.
The restaurant food was certainly delicious, but the street stalls had their own unique charm—and that sense of everyday life was something a restaurant couldn’t provide.
Soon, the two of them finished eating, and Yang Cheng took her to the biggest mall in Luochuan.
"Yang Cheng, what is this place? It’s so big and bright!"
Yun Chan’s beautiful eyes went wide; she felt like she’d stepped into the Celestial Palace.
"A mall, a place where they sell things. I brought you here to buy some clothes and jewelry."
Just as he finished speaking, a few salesgirls walked toward them. They recognized Mr. Yang and greeted him warmly, "Mr. Yang, what are you looking to buy? Do you need us to show you around?"
"No need, we’ll just look around."
Yang Cheng replied coolly, holding Yun Chan’s hand as he walked inside.
Most of the mall staff knew who Yang Cheng was. In Luochuan, there weren’t many people who spent money as lavishly as he did—one shopping trip could cost nearly ten million, and rumor had it he’d even donated the stuff to someone else. That alone showed how deep his pockets were.
"That must be Mr. Yang’s girlfriend, right? She’s pretty, but her clothes are so rustic."
"As long as her face looks good, that’s enough. After all, Mr. Yang is rich—he can buy her whatever clothes he wants."
"Stop gossiping and go inform the manager. If some clueless idiot offends Mr. Yang again, we’ll all be in trouble."
The few salesgirls snapped back to their senses and immediately reported Yang Cheng’s arrival to the manager.
At this moment, Yang Cheng had just taken Yun Chan into a women’s clothing store. The salesgirl was briefly stunned to see him, then enthusiastically began introducing the new season’s styles.
"Pack one set of every new arrival in her size."
Yang Cheng swept his gaze over the racks and made up his mind right away.
"Yang Cheng, I don’t want that many clothes, they’re too expensive."
Yun Chan glanced at the price tags and was so shocked she was left gaping.
She’d never been to the city, let alone gone shopping. She had no idea a single dress could cost tens of thousands. That was more than many villagers could save in a whole year even if they neither ate nor drank.
"You’re my wife. I’m buying things for you, so why wouldn’t you take them? Money is just numbers to me. As long as you like it, it’s money well spent."
Yang Cheng’s attitude was very firm; he swiped his card and paid on the spot.
"This one looks good. Go try it on."
He picked up a light jade-green long dress and handed it to Yun Chan. Green was actually a very fresh, clean color—it was just that too many people had bad-mouthed it.
Sure enough, when Yun Chan came out after changing, she seemed to glow. Her features naturally carried a cool, aloof air, and this color suited her perfectly.
The off-shoulder design set off her slender neck, her shoulders were round and pale, and her waist was so slim his hand could almost encircle it. The hem of the dress was a sheer layer of gauze, swaying gracefully with each step she took.
