Chapter 210: “Don’t you think we’ve seen him somewhere before?”

"Of course he is."

The deep voice cut through the silence calmly.

The doctor immediately straightened while the woman beside him turned toward the door at once.

A middle-aged man walked into the room slowly, his polished shoes pressing softly against the marble floor.

His presence alone seemed to shift the atmosphere inside the bedroom.

He wore a dark silk robe loosely over his shoulders, his sharp eyes landing directly on the unconscious man lying on the bed.

The woman and the doctor lowered their heads immediately.

"Sir."

"Leave us," the man said calmly, though the authority in his tone left no room for delay.

"Yes, sir."

The woman bowed once more before quickly walking out of the room, the sound of her heels fading down the quiet hallway.

The door clicked shut behind her.

Silence returned instantly.

The middle-aged man walked closer to the bed, his gaze settling on Roman’s pale face for several long seconds before finally speaking again.

His eyes lowered briefly to the white sheets beneath him.

They were no longer completely white.

Dark stains of blood had already spread near Roman’s shoulder and along one side of the mattress, the crimson color standing out sharply against the expensive fabric.

Part of his damp shirt had been cut open earlier, exposing bruised skin and a deep wound near his ribs where fresh blood had slowly seeped through the temporary bandage.

The metallic scent of blood still lingered faintly in the cold air of the room.

A strand of dark hair rested against Roman’s forehead, slightly stuck there from dried blood near his temple.

The older man’s eyes narrowed almost invisibly before he looked back at the doctor.

"How is he, doctor?"

The doctor adjusted the stethoscope around his neck before answering carefully.

"He’s not dead," he said, his lips pressing into a thin line. "But his condition is unstable."

The man’s eyes narrowed slightly.

The doctor continued, his voice quieter now. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"He needs urgent treatment. If proper care is delayed any longer, his life may truly be in danger."

The room fell silent again.

The man stared at Roman without blinking, his sharp eyes moving across the unconscious figure lying motionless against the white sheets.

Then he exhaled softly through his nose.

"Then do whatever is necessary," he said. "I do not want this strong young man losing his life yet."

The doctor nodded immediately.

"There are two options," he explained while folding his hands calmly in front of him. "We either move him to a hospital... or continue treating him here privately."

The middle-aged man barely hesitated.

"Then we go with the second option," he said firmly. "I don’t want him taken to a hospital."

The doctor’s brows furrowed slightly at the quick decision.

"There is no problem with that," he replied carefully, "but may I ask why you wish to avoid the hospital?"

The man’s gaze remained fixed on Roman as he answered.

"Let’s just say..." he paused slightly before continuing, "I don’t want unnecessary attention."

His voice stayed calm, but something underneath it carried weight.

The doctor understood immediately.

No more questions were asked.

The man stepped closer to the bed until he stood right beside Roman. Under the soft light, Roman’s face looked even paler, the dried blood near his hairline standing out sharply against his skin.

The older man studied him quietly.

"You will handle everything personally," he said at last. "Whatever treatment he needs, do it. I want him recovering as soon as possible."

"Rest assured, sir," the doctor replied with confidence. "He will survive this."

The man finally gave a small nod before turning toward the door.

But just as he reached it, his steps halted.

Slowly, he looked back over his shoulder.

"And the other man?" he asked. "The one found with him?"

The doctor’s expression darkened slightly.

"Sir... he died the moment we pulled them from beneath the collapsed bridge."

The room grew still.

The older man raised a brow faintly.

"Then how is this one alive?" he asked quietly, gesturing toward Roman with one hand.

The doctor glanced toward the unconscious man before answering.

"His condition was critical when they brought him in," he explained. "There was heavy bleeding from the head. It seems something struck him during the collapse, and the injury affected part of his brain."

The man listened silently before nodding once.

"Well," he murmured, "perhaps that is fortunate in its own way."

The doctor remained quiet.

"At least caring for one injured man is less troublesome than caring for two," the older man added casually, though his eyes never left Roman’s face.

"Yes, sir." freewebnøvel.coɱ

The man rested one hand against the door handle before speaking again.

"And doctor..."

"Yes, sir?"

"Keep this matter private."

The doctor nodded immediately.

"We have handled situations like this for years, sir. You may rest assured."

A faint smile touched the corner of the man’s lips.

"Good. That is why I trust you."

Before another word could be said, hurried footsteps suddenly echoed outside the room.

A maid appeared near the doorway, slightly breathless.

"Sir," she called quickly, lowering her head. "Her ladyship wishes to see you."

The man nodded once.

"Continue your work," he told the doctor before stepping out of the room.

The maid quickly moved aside as he walked into the hallway.

Outside, warm golden lights illuminated the long corridor softly. Not far away, the woman from earlier stood waiting near the staircase, her elegant dress flowing lightly around her feet.

The moment she saw him approaching, she stepped forward.

"The young man isn’t dead, right?" she asked immediately, concern flashing across her beautiful face.

Her husband shook his head.

"No. But the doctor said his condition is serious. If he isn’t cared for properly, things may worsen."

The woman released a quiet breath of relief.

"Then you already gave orders to help him?"

"Of course," he replied calmly. "I could not leave him there to die. Especially since you ask for it."

A small smile appeared on her lips.

"I don’t know why," she admitted softly, "but I already like him."

Her husband glanced at her sideways.

"Hm. So that’s why you insisted we save him?"

She nodded without denying it.

The man suddenly narrowed his eyes slightly.

"Don’t tell me you’ve already replaced me in your heart," he said dryly.

The woman stared at him for a second before laughing softly, the sound echoing lightly through the quiet hallway.

"Oh please," she said while nudging his arm gently. "Why would I do that?"

"Good," he replied, satisfaction slipping into his tone. "That sounds better."

Silence settled between them afterward as they continued walking slowly down the corridor together.

The woman’s expression gradually shifted.

Thoughtful.

Her brows drew together slightly as though something had begun bothering her.

Finally, she turned her head toward her husband.

"Baby..." she called softly.

"Hm?"

She hesitated briefly before speaking again.

"Don’t you think we’ve seen him somewhere before?"
