Book 3, Chapter 358: Purge
Wu Qi’s wounds were healing slowly, but Xu Chan stood across from it and showed no intention of charging at it.
Wu Qi was releasing its mental energy in waves, forcing him to focus on defending his own mind. This made it hard for him to draw power from the other world.
While he could attack with normal Heartborn Force, it wouldn’t be destructive enough. When his hits landed, he noticed that setting aside Wu Qi’s tough exoskeleton, its mutated muscle fibers were also tough and elastic, providing great negation abilities for refined force. It was hard to deal with without even counting its powerful regenerative abilities.
While Xu Chan could deal substantial damage to Wu Qi, he couldn’t defeat it on his own. Also, it seemed like the command center didn’t need him to kill it anymore. All he needed to do was hold out for a certain amount of time.
The details of the command center’s plan were not important to him. All he needed to do was to obey orders.
Wu Qi’s missing tissue was slowly growing back under the membrane. After a moment, the broken bones in the damaged area reconnected, and it looked like it had been reborn.
The row of newly generated compound eyes on its face and chest were trained on Xu Chan. Without a doubt, he was the greatest threat to its existence among everyone here.
Xu Chan met its gaze straight on. His mind endured the waves of attack from the active biosentient entity like a reef. At that moment, he heard footsteps behind him. His team members had come back and stood behind him.
They had released blood essence to heal their injuries.
“It’s about time to use it, Captain Xu,” Captain Wang said while staring at Wu Qi.
“Patience. I’ve already asked the rear to send the stuff here. It should come soon,” Xu Chan appeased him.
While he was talking, two loud bangs came from the square outside. An airship had come over and thrown two boxes from above.
The second Unit One member went to them.
Different tools and equipment were required for different types of active biosentient entities. They hadn’t known what sort of active biosentient entity Wu Qi was before, but after testing it out, they had learned all the important details. Now, they could use targeted weapons against it.
With a strike of his palm, the second Unit One member cracked the boxes open, revealing specially made nets and ropes tied to short spears. With these things in hand, he walked into the building.
“The stuff’s here, Captain Xu.”
He flung his arms, and the ropes as well as nets landed in everyone’s hands. The moment they got them, their hearts settled, and they became much more confident.
Then, they turned their eyes on Wu Qi. The active biosentient entity could move in every direction. It also had compound eyes and sensory organs in practically every part of its body, so it had no blind spots. Once a creature like this starts moving, it should be highly destructive and powerful.
But up to this moment, no matter how they attacked Wu Qi, it never left its original spot and let them hit it as if it was a sitting duck. It did not use its advantage at all.
Clearly, its task was to block the entrance behind it, because the most important people of Ferris Wheel were there. In order to protect them, Wu Qi couldn’t leave, and his opponents could make full use of it.
Xu Chan grabbed a short spear and yanked at the specially made rope on it. Its toughness was far from what he wanted.
It would have been better if they had gotten Yang Shen and his Dragon Binding Force. They would just need to hold Wu Qi back while Yang Shen completed his ritual, and it would be over.
Even if Wu Qi could break free, it wouldn’t be able to do so immediately, and that would be enough time for them to put other forms of shackles on it.
But since Yang Shen was dead, they had to make do with tools.
Xu Chan clenched his fist and looked up. While ignoring the mental attacks Wu Qi kept piling on him, he flung his fist glowing with a faint light at the active biosentient entity.
The moment Wu Qi saw this, it tried to dodge, but the attack was too fast. In order to ensure success, Xu Chan had also rushed forward when he flung his arm. When Wu Qi moved to the side, Xu Chan’s short spear pierced it and stabbed into the floor behind it with a loud thud.
At the same time, Captain Lu and Captain Wang, who each held a corner of a large net, jumped forward and threw it down on the creature.
Wu Qi moved instinctively to avoid it, but the first Unit One member suddenly charged forward and helped Xu Chan grab the rope, since he was feeling a little dizzy from the mental attack. Because of it, Wu Qi wasn’t able to break free instantly.
Part of the spear got dragged out as Wu Qi struggled, but it was too late, and the net landed on its head.
Now, all they needed to do was to pin the corners of the net to the floor with short spears, and they could restrict its movements.
But at that moment, Wu Qi’s body started changing, much to their surprise. Sharp bone blades shot out of its shoulder blades like blossoming flowers and pushed the net taut. Its shoulders also spread outward in an exaggerated fashion. With a few loud rips, some parts of the net tore open.
When the second Unit One member saw this, he grabbed a short spear and got ready to pin Wu Qi while it was unable to dodge the attack, but Wu Qi let out a powerful screech. A mental attack much stronger than before charged out, dealing a huge impact to their minds, and their movements slowed for a beat.
This slight pause allowed Wu Qi to tear the net open and foil their plan. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

When the directors saw Wu Qi being covered by the net, they got nervous, but then sighed in relief once it broke free.
Anyone could tell that Wu Qi was too passive and the right choice was to let it move at will, but no one wanted to bring this up.
“We still haven’t received any news from the liaison unit. It’s highly likely that they have been intercepted. I think we need to send another unit to try,” Mr. Yingwei said.
After some thinking, the directors agreed with him.
A long time had passed, but there was no news. Mr. Yingwei was likely right. Besides, there was no harm in sending another unit. Soon, they passed this decision.
Upon receiving the order, Guanshang Jing was forced to send out six people from his twenty-man team to go underwater with ten armed security guards to reach the shore.
After getting confirmation from Guanshang Jing, Mr. Yingwei said, “I believe that we should leave this place. If we stay here, we’ll limit Wu Qi’s strength.”
Someone immediately protested. “But it’s not safe outside. Besides, we’ll have a hard time knowing what’s going on if we leave. I don’t agree with it.”
“Wu Qi is supposed to ensure our safety. If we go somewhere dangerous, what’s the point of having it?” another director said matter-of-factly.
“What an irrational suggestion. Mr. Yingwei, you’re trying to put us all in danger.”
In the face of the accusations, Mr. Yingwei bowed while sitting and said sincerely, “Please calm down, I have a perfect solution for this.”
The chairperson motioned for the directors to quiet down. Then, he said sternly, “What is it? If it’s logical, I’m sure we’ll agree to adopt it.”
Mr. Yingwei looked up slowly, and a strange expression appeared on his face. “It’s simple. If all of you aren’t around anymore, Wu Qi won’t have anyone to protect. Then, it won’t have to guard the entrance anymore and will be able to move freely.”
“What on earth are you saying, Yingwei?!”
“Don’t make sick jokes at a moment like this!”
Some directors thought that he was joking, but others became wary. They moved their fingers to hover above their alarms. If anything went wrong, they would immediately summon their guards.
Mr. Yingwei’s gaze turned even more peculiar. “Don’t you think that’s the right choice?”
“Yingwei, I’ve told you already. This isn’t the time and place for jokes!” the same director snapped.
“I’m being completely serious here,” Mr. Yingwei said with a smile. A large shadow appeared on the wall behind him, and the originally bright light in the submarine’s meeting room turned dark.
A director closer to him shot up in fear and surprise. “You’re not Yingwei...”
He slammed his fist down on his alarm and started running toward the door, but two steps in, he fell on the floor. His legs had been twisted together and looked like a pretzel. A scream of pain tore through his throat.
Another director reacted much more fiercely. He seemed to have practiced martial arts before, because he drew his saber. With a loud shout, he jumped on the table and swung it at Mr. Yingwei.
Yet the moment he lunged forward and swung his saber, he found, to his horror, that he couldn’t move the blade any further. Then, he brought it back to his neck.
He cut into himself, and he did it with so much power that he nearly cut his head off.
The other directors all stood up and retreated in fear. The only exception was the chairperson. Despite everything, he remained calmly in his seat.
“Y-You’re not Mr. Yingwei,” one of the directors said.
“Of course I am. How could I not be?” Mr. Yingwei said with an enigmatic smile.
While he spoke, the directors’ limbs refused to obey them anymore. They started grabbing their own necks.
Snap!
Their faces twisted backwards, and they collapsed on the floor.
The chairperson stared at Mr. Yingwei. “You’re it? What do you want?”
“This is much better. I’ve reduced Ferris Wheel’s burden, and Wu Qi can now fight without holding back,” Mr. Yingwei declared.
The chairperson forced himself to remain calm. “We can work together...”
Suddenly, his expression changed. With a trembling hand, he brought a gun up and pointed it at his own head.
His face was flushed red, and veins popped up on his neck, as if he was trying to stop it, but it was useless. His hand kept moving up, and in the end, he pulled the trigger.
Mr. Yingwei watched with a smile.
Bang!
The chairperson fell on the table.
Aside from Mr. Yingwei, no one else was alive in the meeting room.
