Chapter 1140: Chapter 1081:

When his gaze swept over the families of those Generals, the corners of his mouth finally curled into a vicious smile, and at the same time he spoke to the trusted aide beside him:

"It’s only just getting light, you can’t really see faces clearly right now. But since we can’t see their faces, we can at least let them hear some voices. Men, step forward and give those bastards a whipping for this king.

Make them scream. The more miserable, the better."

As soon as he said that, the trusted aide’s eyes lit up.

Right, they’d been busy being afraid, only thinking about how they couldn’t see what was happening up on the wall right now, but they could make those people scream!

As long as the relatives let out screams, those Generals would definitely hear them at once.

All the more so, they could make them shout the Generals’ names.

Beat them while making them call out their kin’s names—wouldn’t that be even more precise?

So he moved immediately, hurrying up onto the battlements. His gaze swept across the countless family members present, and a cruel smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He spoke to them:

"Heh heh, what’s happening today isn’t our fault, nor the king’s. You brought this on yourselves.

Blame only that one in your family who doesn’t know his place, who dared to raise troops and attack here.

Since that’s the case, don’t blame us for being rude!

Men, fetch the long whips and beat them for this General!

Just don’t kill them. For General Ban’s sake, make it hurt—wherever hurts, hit there. The louder they howl, the better!"

After he finished, his gaze turned back to the crowd, a cruel smile on his lips as he continued:

"In a bit, you just keep shouting. As long as your shouting satisfies this General, the whip might get a little lighter.

Of course, while you’re shouting, don’t forget to keep calling out that person’s name from your family.

Make them come save you.

If they don’t show up, then these whips will keep raining down on you. How exactly that’ll feel, you can slowly savor it.

Whether you want fewer lashes and a bit less suffering, or you’d rather be beaten to death alive—those paths are yours to choose."

With that, he waved his hand to the crowd and turned around, no longer paying attention to this side.

Those subordinates who had already fetched the whips now all looked at the people with openly malicious eyes.

Not only that, someone even took the lead to shout, "Every injustice has its culprit, every debt its debtor. Go find those people, don’t resent us—we’re just following orders."

Then he swung the merciless whip in his hand and lashed it viciously across the body of an old woman.

That single stroke made the old woman let out a shrill scream on the spot.

That scream sounded especially loud in the stillness of dawn. Even soldiers a thousand paces away who were busy cooking heard it, and couldn’t help turning to look over.

They wanted to see what on earth was happening up on the city wall, why such a wretched scream was coming from there.

Could someone inside have betrayed them?

But thinking it over, that didn’t seem likely. Just like that, everyone craned their necks to look that way, and right on the heels of the first cry came wave after wave of screams echoing across the wall. Mixed in, naturally, were children’s crying, women’s wailing, and old people’s curses.

After hearing those sounds, this side instantly sensed that something was wrong, so the old man hurried over to Lin Yi:

"I don’t know what’s happening on King You’s side, but there are waves of miserable screams coming from there. Roughly speaking, it can’t be anything good."

Lin Yi had of course heard those wretched cries clearly, and he frowned. Then he stepped out of the tent, came to the front of the two armies, and raised his eyes to look at the wall. In the faint early light, he could make out the rough situation.

He saw that on the wall, there were countless people swinging things in their hands, lashing some others, and judging by the voices, those being beaten were all old, weak, women, and children.

That gave him pause. He had no idea what was going on.

Nor did he know what their intent was. Had they caught traitors?

Were they planning to punish traitors in front of all the soldiers?

To kill the chicken to scare the monkeys, using this method to warn soldiers with thoughts of betrayal?

But listening to those cries, that didn’t sound right either. After all, how could old, weak, women, and children be soldiers?

Of course, other people might have no way to investigate, but Lin Yi was different.

He could very easily check out the situation over there.

So he simply waved his hand, and at once a set of Iron Man’s Battle Armor appeared on him.

When that armor appeared, the old man subconsciously took two steps back. He couldn’t help it; the thing’s intimidation was simply too great.

But after retreating a couple of steps, he looked straight at Lin Yi, as if waiting for something.

Lin Yi, who had just been about to take off, noticed this and looked at the old man in puzzlement:

"What? You have something else?"

As Lin Yi’s words fell, the old man blurted out:

"Your Majesty King You, aren’t you going up to take a look? You haven’t given me a safety rope yet!"

Seeing the baffled look on the old man’s face, Lin Yi couldn’t help but chuckle. So the old guy wanted to go up and check it out with him.

Actually, that worked too. After all, this fellow was very familiar with the situation in there and knew every person well. If Lin Yi went over by himself, he probably wouldn’t even know who any of them were.

So, having originally planned to go alone, Lin Yi simply waved his hand again, and a safety harness rope and a motorcycle helmet appeared in front of the old man.

Seeing these things, the old man immediately grew excited and began putting them on at speed. In just a moment he was fully geared up, and without waiting for Lin Yi to speak, he snapped the carabiner on the harness with a click to Lin Yi’s waist.

Watching the old man’s practiced movements, Lin Yi was somewhat speechless. The guy had already gotten used to this.

But he couldn’t help recalling the scene when the old man was first hauled into the sky—it had scared him half to death.

Yet now, the old man was actually volunteering to go up. That was enough to show that he’d already adapted to soaring high in the air, and had even grown addicted to that feeling of looking down on everything.

And so Lin Yi took the old man and flew straight toward the city wall.

Since it had only just gotten light, visibility wasn’t great yet, which meant the people there didn’t notice Lin Yi and the old man’s figures.

Even when the two of them appeared above the battlements, no one looked up.

After all, no one would imagine that someone now could actually fly into the sky, so they simply never considered looking up.

Even if a dark shadow flashed overhead, they just assumed it was some bird flying past.

Just like that, the two came to hover over the wall. Seeing everything below, the old man instantly flew into a rage.

Only Lin Yi had no idea what the old man was shouting—he couldn’t hear him, he could only see the old man gesturing furiously.

Seeing this, Lin Yi didn’t linger, but flew straight back to his own camp.

He had barely landed when the old man immediately started cursing his lungs out.

"Bastards! These bastards actually did something so filthy, worse than pigs and dogs—truly the scum of all civilized men!"
