Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Ren Hui’s Boyfriend
"I’m the only one who can make it? Can’t it be mass-produced with machines?"
In Su Mengyao’s mind, as long as she had the formula, picked the right raw materials, and purchased a production line, she could sit back and relax.
But if she had to handcraft everything by herself, Su Mengyao wasn’t sure if she could keep it up.
"Umm... I’ve never really thought about that. After all, I’ve only ever made it for myself or to give to you guys.
The amount isn’t large, so making it by hand is enough for me. The formula was written for manual production, too.
If you try to mass-produce it, it most likely won’t work."
Yun Zijin herself was pretty laid-back. Ever since she got the formula for the Whitening Moisturizing Rose Essential Oil, she’d never thought about using it to make money. If Su Mengyao hadn’t brought it up, she wouldn’t have even considered opening a shop.
"Oh... In that case..."
"The formula is only useful in your hands. It’s useless to anyone else who gets ahold of it.
Don’t ask why. Let’s just call it high-tech anti-counterfeiting.
If you’re worried about it being too tiring, just position it as a high-end product and do a limited daily release. You know how effective it is. Ninety-nine percent of people who buy it once will become repeat customers."
Many luxury brands use scarcity marketing, and in the end, don’t people line up to buy their products anyway?
"So... I should give it a try?"
Su Mengyao desperately wanted a business of her own. With Yun Zijin’s technical support, she was on the verge of success and didn’t want to give up.
"Give it a try. If you have any problems with the production process, you can always ask me."
Since Su Mengyao would be making her money too, Yun Zijin was naturally happy to teach her everything she knew.
"Deal! As soon as I get home, I’ll have my dad turn our guest room into my own lab.
I’m heading out. As for the contract for our joint venture, let’s wait to sign it until after I’ve successfully made the Rose Essential Oil."
Su Mengyao signed her name on the letter of authorization from Yun Zijin, ready to rush home and start experimenting.
As for the contract to open the shop together, she had to successfully produce the Rose Essential Oil first to even know if the business was viable.
"Alright, don’t get too excited. Drive safely."
Seeing how frantic Su Mengyao was, Yun Zijin was genuinely worried she’d get swept up in her emotions, lose focus while driving, and get into an accident.
"I know, I know, I’ll be careful."
Su Mengyao answered with her back to Yun Zijin, not even turning her head.
Only after Su Mengyao left did the server bring over the coffee Yun Zijin had ordered.
Yun Zijin wasn’t in a hurry to leave. Since she was already here, it would be a waste not to finish her coffee.
"Yun Zijin?"
Yun Zijin had just taken a sip of her coffee when she heard someone call her name. She looked up in the direction of the voice and saw Ren Hui on the arm of a man.
The moment Yun Zijin looked up, a flash of amazement crossed the eyes of the man with Ren Hui. "Huihui, you know her?"
Although he was speaking to Ren Hui, the man’s eyes were fixed on Yun Zijin the entire time.
Yun Zijin frowned slightly, showing clear aversion to the man on Ren Hui’s arm.
"This is my college roommate. Honey, didn’t you say you wanted to treat my dorm mates to dinner? I say, no time like the present. How about tonight? Zijin, you should be free, right?"
Although Ren Hui’s attitude toward Yun Zijin had improved significantly after learning she was a Hermes VIC, old habits die hard. Over time, her attitude had slowly reverted, though she was no longer as brazen about it.
Yun Zijin glanced at Ren Hui. "I don’t think we’re on good enough terms for me to accept a dinner invitation from your boyfriend."
A boyfriend treating the whole dorm to dinner is predicated on the roommates actually getting along, without any of that palace-intrigue-level drama.
And clearly, she and Ren Hui did not get along.
"Oh, come on. Everything that happened before was just a misunderstanding. If you’re still upset about it, then I apologize.
Tonight, at Sijie Restaurant. Bring Qin Sitong. You have to be there!"
Without waiting for Yun Zijin to refuse, Ren Hui dragged her boyfriend away.
The man, probably thinking he’d see her again that evening, allowed Ren Hui to pull him away. Before he left, however, he gave Yun Zijin a long, meaningful look.
Yun Zijin narrowed her eyes. ’Is Ren Hui really that clueless, or does she have an ulterior motive?’
’Her boyfriend was being so obvious, yet she could still calmly suggest treating the dorm to dinner. Something about this isn’t normal.’
Yun Zijin took out her phone and sent Qin Sitong a message about what had just happened.
It was peak time at the Wangyou Milk Tea Shop, so Yun Zijin didn’t expect Qin Sitong to reply instantly.
After sending the message, she put her phone away and replayed the interaction with Ren Hui and her boyfriend in her mind, trying to recall every detail.
By the time Yun Zijin finished her coffee, she still couldn’t figure out what Ren Hui’s motive was.
’But... I’ll just cross that bridge when I come to it. With Zero One around, I doubt Ren Hui can pull anything.’
Having finished her coffee, Yun Zijin flagged down the server, paid her bill, and left the cafe.
Just then, a call came in from Qin Sitong.
Yun Zijin answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Zijin, are you sure you’re not kidding?"
The battle lines in their dorm were clearly drawn. Ren Hui and Li Cui were on one side, while she and Zijin were on the other. The two factions never mixed.
But now Ren Hui’s boyfriend wanted to treat the whole dorm to dinner—including her and Zijin. No matter how you looked at it, something was off.
"Would I joke about something like this? By the way, have you seen Li Cui in the dorm recently? Did she let anything slip?"
"I haven’t noticed anything unusual, except that Ren Hui has barely been back to the dorm lately.
I barely talk to them, so I haven’t asked. You don’t think she moved in with her boyfriend, do you?"
As Qin Sitong’s voice came through the phone, Yun Zijin figured her guess was most likely correct.
It was a personal choice, and Yun Zijin didn’t really think there was anything wrong with Ren Hui doing so.
"So, what do you think? Should we go to this dinner tonight?"
Yun Zijin didn’t really want to go, but she was curious to see what game Ren Hui was playing.
"If you want to go, I’ll go with you, of course."
’Personally, Qin Sitong didn’t want to go. Anyway, Ren Hui had invited Zijin. If she asked later, she could just say Zijin had told her, but she forgot.’
’After all, it’s not like Ren Hui was anyone important.’
"Then let’s go check it out. But when we’re there, you absolutely cannot leave my sight."
With Zero One on her side, Yun Zijin was relatively confident about their safety.
"Then it’s settled. I’ve got more customers, so I have to go. Bye."
With that, Qin Sitong hung up.
At the same time, Yun Zijin received a file from Zero One with the information they had gathered on Ren Hui’s boyfriend.
Name: Sun Zi
Age: 28
Occupation: Bartender at Fenhong Bar on Rongde Street (publicly claims to be a rich heir ’experiencing life’)
As she read on, Yun Zijin knew. This Sun Zi was a total and complete scumbag.
While dating Ren Hui, he was also involved in ambiguous—and even more intimate—relationships with other women.
