Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Questioned
In the brief moment Uncle Fu went to the kitchen to have someone bring out congee, Lu Yunque saw his chance to ask his grandfather for information.
"Grandpa, do you know if any of the elders in the compound recently has someone named Jiang Yi by their side?"
Lu Zhengguo looked up at Lu Yunque. "Why are you asking about this?"
Military matters were not something he could casually inquire about.
Lu Yunque had no intention of hiding anything, so he told the truth. "Here’s the situation. A friend of mine opened a milk tea shop, and this man, Jiang Yi, has bought several cups in a row to take back to an elder.
Yesterday, he went to my friend’s shop and asked if she would meet with him.
My friend doesn’t know what’s going on. She’s just a young woman and doesn’t want any trouble, so she came to me for help.
If it’s not too much trouble, could you help me find out what’s going on? What does this elder want? That way, my friend will know how to handle the situation."
Lu Yunque also hoped this would help Yun Zijin leave a good impression on his grandfather and grandmother.
"A girl?"
After listening to the whole story, his grandmother immediately got to the heart of the matter.
Lu Yunque paused for a moment, then nodded.
Lu Zhengguo thought for a moment. ’My grandson is finally chasing a girl, which is a good thing. This matter is a little troublesome, but it’s nothing major.’
"I remember, wasn’t Old Xu hospitalized again for one of his chronic conditions? We just went to see him yesterday. Now that I think about it, there was a half-finished cup of milk tea on his nightstand..."
He just wasn’t sure if it was the same milk tea from Jiang Yi that his grandson was talking about.
"My friend’s milk tea is very special. I have a picture here. Grandma, does it look like this?"
Lu Yunque knew Jiang Yi had been buying Wangyou Milk Tea, so he immediately pulled up a photo of it on his phone and showed it to Xu Su Hua.
Xu Su Hua leaned in to look at the photo on Lu Yunque’s phone. "It does look a lot like it. But I only glanced at it back then. I just assumed one of Old Xu’s younger family members had brought it and he hadn’t finished it, so I didn’t pay it any mind.
I can’t confirm it’s the exact same one."
"Wait, that’s not right. When my friend’s shop first opened, I remember Lu Yunfeng bought several cups, saying he was bringing them home for you all. Did he never give them to you?"
Lu Yunque had always thought Lu Yunfeng had already brought some for his grandfather and grandmother. He had been busy with company matters, so he hadn’t brought any himself.
But judging by their reactions, this was clearly the first time either of them had seen a Wangyou Milk Tea.
Lu Yunque suddenly felt that Lu Yunfeng was completely unreliable.
"Oh? Lu Yunfeng went there too? Is this milk tea shop that special?"
His grandmother could tell how highly Lu Yunque thought of this girl’s milk tea shop. She couldn’t tell if it was because the tea was genuinely that good, or if her grandson was just biased because of his feelings for the owner.
"It’s not that the shop is special, it’s that their signature milk tea is special.
When I get a chance, I’ll bring a couple of cups back for you. You’ll know once you’ve tried it."
When Lu Yunque had first tried it, he had also found it to be magical. But with anything involving Yun Zijin, it somehow felt perfectly natural.
"In that case, I’ll be waiting for my little sparrow’s milk tea."
"So, Grandma, can you please help me ask what Grandpa Xu wants with my friend?
She hasn’t even graduated from college yet. She’s still just a young woman; this could easily frighten her."
Lu Yunque wanted to get as clear a picture of the situation as possible for Yun Zijin’s sake.
"Alright! We’ll go to your Grandpa Xu’s hospital room again today and ask him what’s going on. Just be ready for my call!"
’My grandson is trying to win over a girl,’ Xu Su Hua thought. ’As his grandmother, I absolutely can’t be the one to hold him back.’
As for what her husband thought about it, his grandmother decided that wasn’t particularly important.
"Thank you, Grandma! I’ll bring you a Wangyou Milk Tea that she made herself today."
"Ahem! Ahem!"
"And Grandpa gets one too!"
In front of his grandparents, Lu Yunque was a completely different person from the cold, aloof CEO he was to the outside world.
Having gotten Lu Yunque’s promise, his grandfather’s lips curled up subtly. Though he tried to remain reserved, anyone could see he was now in a good mood.
Just then, Uncle Fu came out of the kitchen carrying the congee, and Lu Yunque hurried over to take the tray from his hands.
"You’re at an age where you shouldn’t have to do this kind of work. You can just let someone else do it."
Uncle Fu had been with the Lu Family since before Lu Yunque was born. Though he was the butler, Lu Yunque respected him as he would an elder.
If Uncle Fu hadn’t insisted on staying at the old family home, Lu Yunque would have already arranged a comfortable place for him to retire.
He held the title of butler, but he didn’t manage most of the household’s affairs anymore. On most days, he simply stayed near the two elders, helping with small tasks like pouring tea.
Uncle Fu smiled. "I’m alright. It’s on a tray, so I won’t get burned."
’I just can’t sit still,’ he thought. ’Guess I was just born to work.’
"An old man like you, still fighting with the youngsters for chores," Lu Zhengguo grumbled. "If word of this got out, people would think I’m mistreating the elders in my own home."
In the face of his master’s grumbling, Uncle Fu just smiled without a word.
Everyone knew General Lu was all bark and no bite—harsh with his words, but soft at heart.
Lu Yunque, for his part, tuned them out and focused on finishing his congee.
Once he finished, he quietly left for work.
The next morning, the very first thing Yun Zijin did upon waking was check her phone. She couldn’t feel at ease until she saw a message from Lu Yunque.
Thankfully, she saw a message from him as soon as she unlocked it. After reading what Lu Yunque had sent, Yun Zijin had a rough understanding of the situation.
However, his motive was still unclear. Afraid of running into Jiang Yi, Yun Zijin decided not to go to the Wangyou Milk Tea Shop.
After her morning classes, she headed straight for Xinghua Street.
When she got to Xinghua Street, Yun Zijin discovered that the storefronts Randomly Spend had given her were all connected on the inside!
And the location was excellent. If she opened the Wangyou Milk Tea Shop here, business would be great.
’Randomly Spend really lives up to its name,’ she thought. ’It just casually gave me the best properties on the whole street.’
"Who are you? What are you doing here?"
Yun Zijin was sitting on a chair outside one of the shops. Before long, someone in a uniform came over to question her.
’I guess this is what you’d expect from shops right outside the main compound,’ she mused. ’The security is really tight.’
"I’m looking at my properties. I just checked out two of them and got a bit tired, so I’m resting here."
Yun Zijin gestured toward the storefront behind her.
"Your properties?"
Clearly, the young man in the uniform was still suspicious. After all, she was an unfamiliar face who had appeared out of nowhere. If he wasn’t careful, someone could exploit the situation, and that would be a serious problem.
"That’s right. All ten of these are mine. Sir, would you like to see the deeds? I can get them from my car."
Yun Zijin pointed to a very conspicuous Sielbe Tuatara in a nearby parking space.
The young officer was a car guy, so he knew a fair bit about them. When he saw the car Yun Zijin was pointing at, his pupils contracted instantly.
’Are all young people this rich now? How old can she be, already owning a multi-million dollar supercar?’ It made his own life—28 years old with no car and no house—feel like a failure.
"You’re here to see the properties? Are you planning to open a shop, or...?"
’To be honest, not many people dared to open a shop on Xinghua Street.’
