Chapter 360: Chapter 360: Side Story 9
Shen Que moved.
The three people cleaned up simply.
After a while, the room needed hot water. Shen Que carried hot water in and quickly came out again.
Repeatedly, clean hot water went in, and water tinged with blood red came out.
Time ticked by, making everyone increasingly anxious.
Over three hours later, the curtain was lifted again, and a girl named Xing Er came out, nodded to the three outside, and said, "Master said, it will be alright."
A single "it will be alright" caused the three outside to cry tears of joy.
Shen Que turned his head, trying hard to hold back his tears while looking up at the sky.
Master Guo turned away, wiping his eyes hard with his sleeve, and then just stared at the stove without looking up.
Jiang Cheng, however, was quite emotional, grabbing Xing Er’s hand and saying thank you.
Xing Er turned away to avoid Jiang Cheng seeing her face.
How perceptive Jiang Cheng was, he directly complimented, "Your eyes are really beautiful."
Xing Er, initially turning her face away, was surprised and turned back, then instinctively lowered her head to cover her eyes, somewhat downcast, saying, "You don’t need to say that, I know my eyes are ugly."
Jiang Cheng quickly denied it and raised Xing Er up.
"Xing Er, I’m not saying this just because you saved our friend."
"I mean it, I sincerely think your eyes are beautiful, like the most beautiful gemstones, rare and precious."
Xing Er seemed to feel Jiang Cheng’s sincere compliment; she finally looked up, her eyes timid.
Her heterochromatic eyes of green and blue shone with different light, and Jiang Cheng fully appreciated them, saying, "Truly beautiful!"
Xing Er lifted her wrist, touched her eyes, and said, "Isn’t this a symbol of misfortune? How can it be beautiful?"
Jiang Cheng cried out in surprise.
"Of course not!"
"Do you know, in foreign countries, many people have eyes this color."
"What you have is called heterochromia, a unique beauty."
For the first time, Xing Er heard that there were people whose eyes looked like hers.
"Foreign?"
"Yes, outside our Hua Xia, there are many countries; they’re not all with black hair and black eyes. They have golden hair, red hair, brown, eyes that are blue, green, gold... basically, many colors."
Jiang Cheng guessed that Xing Er probably had some foreign blood from an ancestor, a hereditary trait appearing in her.
Xing Er was full of curiosity about the foreign lands Jiang Cheng spoke of, wondering if she were born there, would she not be despised?
Seeing Xing Er silent, Jiang Cheng probably understood what she cared about.
In the deep mountains where poverty reigns, such places often hold more prejudice, with people’s minds fixed, unwilling to accept new external knowledge.
They judge everything around them based on their limited perception and knowledge, and if something surpasses their understanding, they think of methods to destroy or discredit it.
"Xing Er, if I had a pair of eyes like yours, I’d consider it a blessing not to discriminate against others."
"So, don’t listen to what people outside say; they’re just jealous of you."
Jiang Cheng’s words made Xing Er laugh, and even more so surprised her.
"Is that possible?"
"Of course! Happiness is only something you can decide, can others stop you from being happy?"
Jiang Cheng’s new generation of thinking directly impacted Xing Er’s worldview, for a while, it was a lot to take in.
However, just a few words from Jiang Cheng really cheered Xing Er up, and she swiftly went to get herbs.
After Xing Er left, the old master inside also came out, looking in Jiang Cheng’s direction, and said, "Thank you."
"Master Chang, I was really sincere, I truly think Xing Er’s eyes are beautiful."
Master Chang, having seen much in life, and experienced highs and lows, had found Xing Er as a little girl; the two of them relied on each other through the years.
"I know, so thank you."
Master Chang sincerely expressed his gratitude.
Jiang Cheng dared not accept it, turning around to thank Master Chang instead.
The two sides communicated about Gao Zhonghua’s injury, and Master Chang’s words made the three of them exclaim.
"You removed Gao Zhonghua’s shrapnel?"
"How did you do it? With surgery?"
It wasn’t that they doubted, it was just that they were really shocked.
Master Chang calmly said, "The wound caused by that rock happened to offer a way out, I used golden needles to force the shrapnel out and extracted it from the wound."
Master Chang spoke lightly, but in the hearts of Shen Que and the other two, it was like a storm.
Gao Zhonghua, was healed.
Could he really live a long life now?
Shen Que’s immense guilt was replaced by joy, and he kept thanking Master Chang repeatedly.
Master Chang waved his hand, looked at the three’s attire, pondered for a moment, and asked, "You’re not ordinary people, are you?"
Jiang Cheng, hearing this, knew Master Chang had something in mind.
She directly said, "Master Chang, if you have something to say, feel free, we will do our utmost."
Master Chang gazed outside.
Xing Er came in from outside, carrying a large jar, Jiang Cheng understood and said, "You want us to help take care of Xing Er?"
Master Chang nodded.
"I don’t have much time left."
"I won’t have you take care of her for nothing, Xing Er is not without knowledge, she has inherited my medical skills."
"She just has never been exposed to the outside world, and I can’t bear it. I ask you..."
Master Chang looked at Jiang Cheng.
"I want to ask you to look after her."
Jiang Cheng, hearing this, agreed directly.
"Rest assured, Master Chang, I will do it."
Master Chang nodded, gesturing at Jiang Cheng to follow him.
"Come with me."
Jiang Cheng followed Master Chang into the room.
Inside, Gao Zhonghua lay with eyes closed, the rise and fall of his chest representing his vitality.
Master Chang led Jiang Cheng to a bookshelf.
"Here lies my life’s work, once Xing Er has copied it, I wish for you to pass these on to those who truly need them."
"The traditional medicine of our Hua Xia is profound, unlike those in foreign countries who simply cut where it aches."
Hearing this, Jiang Cheng was filled with immense respect for Master Chang, truly dedicating himself to the practice and fears for traditional Chinese medicine.
"May I know your name, Master Chang?"
Master Chang waved his hand dismissively, saying, "Just call me Master Chang, a name is but a label."
Master Chang was unwilling to say more, and Jiang Cheng did not press.
Next, Xing Er prepared medicine for Gao Zhonghua, Shen Que learned a bit, and personally fed the medicine to Gao Zhonghua.
Jiang Cheng and Master Guo helped Xing Er prepare some food, and they all stayed there.
That stay lasted three days.
Gao Zhonghua was conscious for longer periods, and in two days’ time, Master Chang said they could move Gao Zhonghua.
At that point, Shen Que would take the train to bring Gao Zhonghua back to Beijing, as exploring wasn’t as important as Gao Zhonghua.
Two days later, Gao Zhonghua could already sit up and eat on his own.
Master Guo tidied up the truck just enough to allow Gao Zhonghua to lie in the back.
As they prepared to leave, Master Chang called everyone over, and in front of them all, he said to Xing Er, "Come, let me teach you the final lesson."
