Chapter 461: Chapter 461: The Alien in the Water

One of the opposing team members suddenly called out.

He was holding a sealed metal case.

"What is it?" the leader asked, walking over.

The man opened it.

Inside were rows of small vials filled with a faint blue liquid.

Everyone nearby froze.

Leng Pan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

She recognized that liquid.

It was similar to the experimental serums used in ancient Earth.

Moreover, they had found something similar in the underground laboratory in the military base where Vanish had infiltrated and rescued some people who became members of their team later.

They were enhancement drugs or perhaps... something even more sinister.

Lu Zhen stepped closer to look at the vials.

"Don’t touch it carelessly," he warned.

The opposing team’s leader looked at him sharply.

"You know what this is?"

"Not exactly," Lu Zhen replied calmly.

"But I know it’s not something you should handle carelessly." He replied seriously.

The man hesitated as he looked at Lu Zhen, then at the things in the box.

His team members, however, were already whispering among themselves and getting impatient.

"Maybe it can make us stronger..." One of them said.

"Yes, what if it’s like those evolution serums that turn normal people into hulk?"

"We should keep it!"

Greed began to surface.

Leng Pan sighed inwardly when she saw this.

Human Nature was hard to change no matter the circumstances.

Even though these people knew that they were no match for them, that didn’t stop them from wanting to challenge them for benefits.

This was exactly the kind of situation she had expected even when they made that deal earlier.

She never hoped for them to remain peaceful to the end.

However, anything found during the apocalypse could help in finding a way to end it.

Something like this was obviously one of the catalysts that either make zombies evolve faster, or it could help survivors grow stronger.

So, she had to take some back for research.

With this thought, she stepped forward slowly.

"That case counts as part of the supplies," she said. "We will split equally as agreed."

The moment she said that, several members of the opposing team stiffened.

"That’s not fair!" one of them blurted out.

"Yes. We found it first." Another one shouted.

Blaze immediately turned toward him, his gaze so cold it could freeze hell.

"Everything here is part of the deal. Don’t push your luck."

The man faltered but didn’t back down completely.

"This is something that could change our situation. You guys are already so strong. This is not useful to you. Why not leave it to us?" He asked, plucking off his courage from god knows where.

"It could also kill you and it needs research before it’s used. You can take your share and do with it whatever you want. But give us what we deserve." Leng Pan said solemnly.

The leader of the opposing team remained silent for a long moment.

Then, he closed the metal case.

"We will split it as agreed." Even though he also wanted to take everything, he didn’t dare.

After all, their team really couldn’t win a fight with the other team.

His decision immediately caused unrest among his people.

"Boss!"

"We can’t just give that away!"

But he raised his hand, silencing them.

"We will stick to the agreement."

Leng Pan looked at him with scrutiny. To be completely honest, she didn’t think he would compromise so readily.

She thought that he was afraid of their strength.

However, looking carefully, she noticed that he wasn’t doing this because he was afraid.

He understood something.

"Smart choice." Lu Zhen said in praise.

The tension eased slightly, but not completely.

As both teams resumed collecting supplies, a delicate balance settled over the area.

No one trusted the other fully, and yet, no one dared to break this fragile peace.

Leng Pan was also helping to collect supplies but her eyes would flash to the alien detector disk from time to time.

After a while, she suddenly stopped her actions midway because the light flashing on the detector kept changing from green to yellow, before it finally settled on red.

"Everyone, stop." She called out urgently.

Both teams froze in place.

"Baby, what is it?" Lu Zhen asked as he moved to her side quickly.

Leng Pan didn’t answer immediately, instead, she slowly lifted the disk in her hand.

The red light flashed on and off steadily.

"There’s an alien here."

The statement was followed by a short silence, then chaos followed.

"What?!"

"Where?!"

The opposing team panicked instantly, their earlier composure shattering to pieces.

Leng Pan’s cold gaze swept across the room they were collecting supplies in.

"Stay still and be quiet." she ordered sternly, shifting to Commander mode instantly.

"It should have been watching us. So, don’t give it the chance to escape." Lu Zhen said, turning around to observe their surroundings.

They had to find an exit in case the one they came through was unusable.

They were already on the floor above the floods. So, the floor below them was already submerged under the floods.

Seeing how the red light was flashing, Leng Pan knew that the alien was closer than expected.

Most likely, it was in the water directly below them.

In the roof they were in, the staircase leading to the lower floor was across the door.

Moreover, it was almost completely under water, so you couldn’t see anything that easily.

However, Leng Pan noticed a slight ripple in the water and immediately knew that the alien was hiding there.

Just as she was about to point it out, a figure shot out at a terrifying speed, heading straight for the nearest person.

The closest person wasn’t from Leng Pan’s team but a member of the other one.

"Move!" the leader shouted and tried to pull his teammate away.

Unfortunately, it was already too late.

The alien’s claw pierced through one man’s shoulder, lifting him off the ground, causing blood to be sprayed everywhere.

The man was in so much pain that he couldn’t even scream, however, his teammates did that for him.

The panicked screams that erupted on that floor could literally bring back the dead to life.

Even for dead people, those screams could shock them awake.

"Attack!" Leng Pan commanded instantly.

Her reaction wasn’t delayed either.

Water rushed upward from the floor below, forming chains that wrapped around the creature tightly and pulled it backwards in an attempt to dislodge it from the man’s shoulder. freewēbnoveℓ.com

Lu Hao was also becoming adept in responding to attacks that involved water.

His lightning strike came almost immediately and struck the alien square in the head.

A loud shriek escaped its mouth and it struggled violently trying to break free.

The shriek almost made the ears of those present explode.

Not to be outdone by his younger brother, Lu Zhen pushed his hands forward and flames shot out of his palms.

The flames hit the creature directly on the back, causing it to jump in an attempt to escape or reduce the pain.

However, no one was giving it the time to catch its breath or escape.

Leng Pan’s team was attacking without mercy.

No matter how loud the creature screamed, it was in vain.

The alien’s shriek echoed through the building, sharp and grating like metal scraping against metal. freewёbnoνel.com

It was making Leng Pan want to block her ears from how uncomfortable it made her feel.

However, they were in the middle of the battle and she couldn’t lose concentration.

The alien twisted mid-air after being blasted by Lu Zhen’s flames, its grayish skin splitting in several places only to knit back together at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"Wow! It has regeneration ability." Lu Tao said in astonishment.

Leng Pan noticed this detail as well.

She also realized that the creature was faster than other aliens they had encountered before.

Even the ones they fought in that sky battle near their base weren’t this capable.

It seemed that as time went by, the aliens became stronger, just like the zombies
