Chapter 442: Chapter 442: Coping Mechanism
"No, let’s give the other survivors an opportunity to get stronger. If we fight all the enemies alone, how are they ever going to stand on their feet?" Leng Pan replied with a sigh.
They had been so focused on ending the apocalypse they forgot that it might take years or even decades to eliminate every disaster related to the apocalypse.
If they continue to take on all the load, then the other survivors will become weak or even entitled, expecting to be protected no matter what.
So, Leng had changed tactics. When this wave of predators appeared, she saw an opportunity to train the other survivors so that they could understand that surviving the apocalypse wasn’t just about getting a cup of noodles to survive on for days. They also had to kill the enemies with their own hands.
Leng Pan was reminded of Bai Yinyin, who had been so manipulative. Pretending to be weak and pitiful and expecting others to protect her and provide her with food.
So, she had decided to let everyone learn to fend for themselves.
"That’s a good idea. We should have done this a long time ago. Some of the superpower users in the base are even weaker than the ordinary people because they refuse to train. Simply because they have a safe place to live and get supplies without doing anything." Lu Zhen agreed with his wife’s decision to let everyone participate in the battles to take back their planet.
"What do you think will happen to them?" Leng Pan asked, worried, causing Lu Zhen to chuckle.
"You say you want them to be independent and learn how to kill enemies, but you are still worried about them."
"It’s not about worry. I am not their mother, but with each survivor who dies, the number of humans reduces and the number of zombies increases. This is like adding wings to a tiger. So, of course I am worried." Leng Pan didn’t hide her worries from her husband and explained her concerns.
"But if they don’t go through life and death battles, they won’t grow." Lu Zhen reasoned.
"I know that. But I am still worried." One couldn’t blame Leng Pan.
After sacrificing herself in the last apocalypse, she just wanted to end this one in one piece.
"Alright, stop worrying so much. They will definitely come back safe. The teams are strong, and even if they are not, this is an opportunity to get stronger." Lu Zhen didn’t want to see his wife worrying so much so he comforted her.
"You are right. I should stop worrying so much. Life and death in the apocalypse is as normal as drinking water, so losing some people is understandable." Leng Pan sighed as she said this. ƒrēewebnovel.com
Lu Zhen could understand that she had trained so hard to become stronger so that she wouldn’t have to watch the people she protected die unnecessarily, but some things were inevitable.
Seeing the way she looked forlorn, Lu Zhen suddenly pulled her closer.
Leng Pan blinked, caught off guard.
"What are you doing?"
"Taking a break," he said casually.
She raised an eyebrow.
"In the middle of all this? Is this how you take a break?"
Lu Zhen leaned closer, his voice dropping to a hoarse whisper.
"Yes. It will take your mind off things for a moment."
Before she could respond, he pressed a soft kiss against her lips.
The kiss wasn’t rushed, but one that showed how much he cherished her.
Leng Pan’s initial surprise melted quickly.
Her hand instinctively reached up, resting lightly against his chest, then she fisted the fabric of his coat.
The chaos around them instantly died and they were the only ones left in the world.
When they finally pulled apart, Lu Zhen smiled seductively at his wife.
"See? Feeling better now?" He asked.
Leng Pan rolled her eyes, but there was a faint smile on her lips.
"You are just using your charm to seduce me."
"Is it working?" Lu Zhen asked shamelessly.
"Go away." A soft laugh escaped Leng Pan’s lips.
The heavy feeling that had been sitting on her chest all morning melted away.
Even if they received bad news now, she will be able to handle them with ease.
Their moment was interrupted by hurried footsteps.
"Commander Leng!"
They turned to see Juan Ke approaching them quickly.
"What is it?" Leng Pan asked, her stomach sinking with a bad feeling.
"There’s a situation near the west side where a few of the fishing boats headed," he said. "One of the fishing teams seems to have encountered a problem."
"Which team?" Lu Zhen asked.
"Team Three. Led by Zhang Wei."
Leng Pan’s expression turned serious.
"How long have they been out of contact?"
"Over an hour."
That was too long.
In one hour, the whole team could have been wiped out without leaving bones behind.
Every fishing team had been given a communication device made by Lu Tao.
They were strictly instructed to send a message every thirty minutes to confirm their safety.
But now that one hour was gone, that means the third team hasn’t sent two messages.
Within minutes, a rescue team was assembled.
Even though Leng Pan really wanted the survivors in the base to get stronger, she couldn’t stay still in this situation.
So, she and Lu Zhen joined the team.
Ouyang Jin who had been monitoring the movement of the teams on a laptop with Lu Tao, also joined the rescue team.
Even Lu Tao insisted on coming, and after a brief hesitation, Leng Pan finally allowed it under strict orders.
"Stay behind me or your brothers at all times," she said because not just Lu Zhen, even Lu Hao had insisted on following them.
Lu Tao nodded seriously.
"I will." He knew this was an important mission, not a drill. So, he couldn’t be a burden.
The only reason he insisted on going was to help them locate the place quickly using his abilities.
