Chapter 955: Chapter 928: Not Bad at All
"You can call him anything, but why say you’re a bastard?" Yu Minglang couldn’t stand it anymore. How deep was the grudge his wife held, to the point of calling herself names?
"I’m just telling you, don’t tell him, and don’t contact him. It’s either him or me, got it?"
"Okay, got it." Xiaoqiang shrugged internally. It’s not that he didn’t want to help his mother-in-law; he relayed the message as instructed. Qian was stubborn and immovable once she made up her mind. As long as he had an answer for his mother-in-law, he considered his job done.
Anyway, Xiaoqiang also felt disdain for the former father-in-law.
Although Mr. Liao, the stepfather, wasn’t the biological dad, he did things right. When Qian got married, he coordinated with Qian’s mom and even used his own money to prepare the dowry. In comparison, he was no worse than the biological dad.
Yu Minglang would rather be better to this stepfather-in-law than the former one. Whoever treats Qian well is the real father-in-law; he didn’t care who Qian’s dad was, as long as he’s good to his wife.
The Liao Family was cheerful these days, not only because their daughter was getting married but also because Chen Zilong’s estimated scores had been released.
When Qian came home, her mom first glanced at Yu Minglang, asking, "How did it go?"
Yu Minglang shook his head at her, signaling that she should refrain from bringing it up if she didn’t want to be scolded by Qian.
Qian’s mom sighed inwardly. Since her daughter was so opposed to it, she decided not to bring it up either. She wasn’t overly persistent about it and had long let go of her ex-husband. She just feared that the wedding would lack a person, and her daughter might be gossiped about by relatives, so she had Yu Minglang mention it.
But it was up to Qian’s own wish; if she wasn’t happy, then better not mention it, so as not to spoil the festive mood of the wedding day for the whole family.
"Glad you’re back, Minglang. Stay for dinner, and later, go with your Uncle Liao to write the invitations for our side and discuss the wedding arrangements," Qian’s mom said.
"Okay, Mom." Yu Minglang presented himself as the dutiful son-in-law. These were essential attitudes to have for marrying someone’s cherished daughter.
"Since everyone is here, let’s have a meeting to talk about some important matters." Qian’s mom had a few things on her mind to discuss.
Sitting with his legs crossed on the sofa, wearing big shorts and chewing watermelon, Chen Zilong immediately sat up straight.
"First, let’s talk about Qian’s wedding. There’s nothing much to say; the in-laws called this morning to verify wedding day details. Your Uncle Liao has noted everything down. After dinner, Qian and Minglang you can check them. Per our customs, the day before the wedding we’ll host the bride’s family, then the next day the groom’s family, the attire should arrive tomorrow; try it on to see if it fits. There’s nothing much to discuss."
Indeed, Chen Zilong nodded vigorously. The business of his elder sister getting married had been underway for a long time. Nothing more to say, with Yu family handling everything seamlessly. Didn’t see this couple come back right before the wedding, with nothing to worry about, competent parents taking care of it all.
Quick, get to the main point~ Chen Zilong anticipated as he eyed his mom, even clearing his throat for attention.
Qian’s mom glanced at him and continued.
"Finished discussing Qian’s marriage, now let’s talk about Fugui, these two kids are really..."
Qian’s mom shook her head.
Chen Zilong pouted; this isn’t the main issue!
"Didn’t Fugui get the marriage certificate? What else is there?" Qian remembered Liumei calling a few days ago saying she and Fugui got their marriage certificate. After the previous incident, they both realized they were meant for each other, so it’s better sooner rather than later, directly registered.
"The documents are done, but they insist on shirking responsibilities, saying no banquet, just a traveling wedding. What will neighbors think hearing this?"
Qian’s mom thought a proper public wedding was necessary, to gather both families together joyfully. A traveling wedding sounded impoverished, and passed around might make it seem like she neglected her stepson.
In elders’ eyes, any wedding without a banquet isn’t a proper wedding.
"Kids will decide for themselves." Mr. Liao said in a good-natured manner.
Young people have new ideas; Liumei wanted a traveling wedding for convenience. It’s popular now, so she nagged Fugui to comply. Though Fugui wanted a banquet, he couldn’t resist Liumei’s begging. He agreed in bed but reversed course afterward, which wasn’t suitable.
"No, Qian, you’ll make Liumei see reason. Our families are reputable; why insist on secretly a traveling wedding?" Qian’s mom thought the large scale wedding for her daughter juxtaposed against a discreet, traveling wedding might reflect poorly on her as a stepmother.
"Why is a traveling wedding secretive? Isn’t it nice?" Qian would have preferred less fuss if Yu’s family’s status wasn’t involved.
Life is unpredictable; who’d think those against big weddings would end up with one, while those planning big encountered mishaps on the day.
While Qian’s mom and Qian discussed marriage issues, Chen Zilong protested.
"Nothing much about this, if my sister steps in, what can’t be solved? So let’s not discuss further; let her handle it herself."
Qian’s mom thought about it.
"Then let Qian handle Liumei’s persuasion; there’s no urgent matter now. You both just traveled back after a long journey, relax, have some watermelon, and wait for dinner."
Having been overlooked from start to finish, Chen Zilong finally sulked.
"Mom! You haven’t addressed the main issue!"
"What’s the main issue?"
"My studies, my exam scores!"
"Oh! Right, that matter!" Qian’s mom smacked her forehead, remembering.
"Others prioritize sons over daughters; I don’t demand more status than my sister, but not to be this neglected..." Chen Zilong muttered, every time Xiaoqiang would put on an innocent expression.
Because next came the time to compare him with his older sister.
"You have the audacity to speak, if you accomplish half of what your sister did, I’ll be grateful. Although the saying goes a son-in-law is half a son, Minglang would be better even if split in two, compared to you whole, you’re just a fifth of your brother-in-law."
Shorts! Chen Zilong was provoked.
"Mom, don’t say that, actually Chen Zilong is quite nice." Yu Minglang tried to mediate.
This time Qian’s mom didn’t disparage her son like before; she seemed a little bit pleased.
"Chen Zilong did pretty well this time, the scores came out surprisingly higher than estimated by over 30 points, enough for a third-tier college."
Qian and Yu Minglang both raised their eyebrows, well, not bad.
