Cass looked confused. He asked, "Feel what?"
Zeke replied, "A threat. I’m not sure what it was but I can guarantee that it was a threat to our lives."
Cass said, "I didn’t feel anything like that. Maybe, it was a false alarm."
Zeke replied, "Maybe. After all, nothing can threaten us here. We’re literally the only people here. But...I don’t know. Maybe it was a sign. I need to talk to Grandpa."
They exited the Seed and texted Leonel. He texted back that he was in his room. The boys went to his room and entered. Leonel looked at the boys and saw that they looked troubled. He said, "Whatsup? You look worried for some reason."
Zeke proceeded to tell him what had transpired in the Seed. As Leonel continued to listen, he understood what had happened and his expression became serious. He said, "We’ll talk about the Seed later. Let us talk about that threat you felt first.
Tell me, are you absolutely sure that you felt a blade on your neck?"
Zeke replied, "Not literally. I just meant that I felt intense dread for an instant. Something I’ve felt before. Just once. I had felt the same exact feeling just before that insect bastard had killed me."
Leonel sighed heavily and asked, "And only you had this feeling? Cass didn’t?"
Cass replied, "I felt nothing."
Leonel breathed an even heavier sigh. He said, "It is as I feared."
Zeke asked, "What do you mean?"
Leonel replied, "You felt a threat to your life, only because it is in danger. Consider it survival instinct. Something or someone out there wants you dead.
Of course, I may be wrong. Maybe, I’m being paranoid here but if it is one thing that I’ve learnt after living for so long, it is that there is no harm in trusting your gut feeling."
He continued, "Let us think about it. Do you have another crazy plan that involves risking your life? Cause if it’s dangerous enough, it can trigger your survival instinct."
Zeke looked offended but then realised that it was a plausible situation. He said, "I don’t have any ’crazy plans’. And just a reminder, our strength and potential are the result of those ’crazy plans’.
On the contrary, our schedule is relatively peaceful. Meet our family, prepare for the War Academy and...FUCK!"
Before Cass or Leonel could ask what was going on, Zeke let out a string of curses in not one, not two, not three, but four different languages, some of which made even Leonel blush.
While they were staring at him with wide eyes, he spoke in a hysteric tone, "I should have expected this. This fucking System always does this. It’s just one bloody thing after the other. Why, why in fuck’s name can’t it just let us do one thing in peace?"
Seeing that Zeke was starting to hyperventilate, Cass shouted, "ZEKE! Shut up and look at me."
Zeke stopped talking as Cass grabbed his shoulders. Cass said, "I don’t know what’s going on but you gotta calm down, alright? It is gonna be okay. Whatever happens, we’re gonna face it together. So, take deep breaths. In through the nose and out through the mouth."
Zeke took Cass’s advice and took deep breaths. Gradually, he started calming down. After he had completely calmed down, Cass said, "Now, tell us what’s going on."
Zeke replied, "It is the Ascension Trial. If I choose the Transcendent Trial, I will either pass or I will die. There is no in between. And this time, there will be no coming back. I’m not sure if it’s the same for Cass. Even the thought of the Trial gives me chills."
Cass said, "Then don’t choose the Transcendent Trial. Choose Nightmare. Do not let your obsession with perfection kill you."
Zeke smiled melancholically and replied, "I don’t think that I will have the choice. I can feel it in my bones that the System is gonna fuck me over with this Trial."
Cass asked, "Can the System even do that? Aren’t there rules or something? And why would it target you? I mean, no offence, but in the grand scheme of things, we’re nothing."
Zeke replied, "I’m not sure but I can think of a reason."
Leonel asked, "What now?"
Zeke replied, "If the System wants to screw with me, then I’ve got no choice but to face it head on. What I can do, is make ample preparations."
Leonel asked, "Preparations?"
Zeke replied, "Preparations in case I don’t make it. As there is a high chance that I won’t, I need to take certain steps to ensure that the Federation wins this war." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
Leonel asked, "And how will you do that?"
Zeke replied, "By giving you guys all of my knowledge of the future. If you use it well, I’m sure that you can lead the Federation to victory. Of course, it won’t be free. After all, knowledge is priceless."
Leonel said, "Oh really? If knowledge really is priceless, how do you expect me to pay for it?"
Zeke looked as if he heard the dumbest question of the year and replied, "With equivalent knowledge, duh. I am a firm believer in the equivalent exchange of knowledge. Don’t think that I shared everything before just because we’re family.
I know how much you have helped us, whether it be with your status or with your knowledge and experiences. I know that it sounds selfish and rude but that’s just how I am. I prefer keeping my professional and personal lives separate."
Cass exclaimed, "Zeke! Apologise this instant. That’s no way to talk to Grandpa."
Before Cass could say anything else, Leonel interrupted him and said, "He’s not wrong. You need that mentality if you want to succeed, especially as a scientist. Blindly sharing info just cause we’re family will bite us in the butt.
And honestly, I kinda share his sentiments. From the beginning, I have seen him as a colleague rather than a junior..."
Looking at the strange expressions that the boys were giving him, Leonel cleared his throat and continued, "...only when we were conducting our experiments. Other than that, he is a brat.
So, what knowledge do you want in exchange?"
Zeke replied, "Just some techniques."
Leonel asked, "What kind of techniques?"
A mad grin appeared on Zeke’s face as he replied, "Every kind. Cultivation techniques, weapon manuals, combat arts, alchemy, chemistry, forging, enchantment, mana engineering, etc. I want everything. Of course, I’ll limit the types of cultivation techniques and weapon manuals based on my needs.
For the rest, I want every technique that you have in your database. Including your personal ones."
Leonel feigned ignorance as he asked, "What database?"
Zeke replied, "I think that you sometimes forget who I was and the position that I held in my previous/alternate life. I know that you have a secret database of all techniques in the Federation. Even the ones belonging to the four Empires. I know that all techniques, no matter the kind must be registered with the government to ’ensure that they’re safe’."
Leonel sighed and asked, "Why do you have to be so greedy? I mean, what will you even do with so many techniques? There are millions of techniques in that database. And why do you need the cultivation techniques? You already have one perfectly suited for you?"
Zeke smacked his lips and said, "That’s for me to know and for you to find out. I’ll give you a list of the Affinities for the cultivation techniques and the weapons that I need manuals for. See ya later."
Without waiting for anything else, he left the room. Cass said, "I’ll go check on him. Although he looks like he has calmed down, he is most probably still seething with rage on the inside."
Leonel replied, "You do that. It is not healthy to bottle up emotions like that. Especially considering your Race. In fact, I have the perfect way for him to let it all out."
Leonel proceeded to tell Cass his plan. He ended by saying, "You go do that and I’ll go prepare the techniques."
Cass said, "Sorry about that Grandpa."
Leonel replied, "Hey, I meant every word when I agreed with Zeke. You go now. I’ll see you at dinner."
Cass nodded and exited the room. Leonel breathed a heavy sigh and lay down on his bed. He muttered, "The brat has no conscience. Making his old Grandpa work so much. I’ll give him a proper lesson after he completes his Trial."
It was quite comical, as Leonel’s current body belonged to a kid. Outside, Cass made his way to Zeke’s room. He knocked and entered the room. He saw Zeke, just sitting on his bed in silence. He sat beside him and asked, "How do you feel?"
At first, Zeke didn’t reply but Cass was patient. After five minutes had passed, Zeke said, "I feel shitty. I feel scared too but mostly angry."
Cass nodded and said, "That’s understandable. Anyone in your position would feel the same. Hmmm, I can’t do anything about the fear but, I do have a solution for your anger."
Zeke looked at Cass curiously. Cass smiled and said, "Come on. We need to go somewhere."
Seeing that Zeke wasn’t standing up, Cass said, "Come on. I promise that it will work."
Zeke stood up with a sceptical look on his face. Although he loved and trusted his brother, he knew that his brother was anything but fun. Still, looking at him like this, made him curious.
Downstairs, Cass sent a text and a few minutes later, a car arrived at the entrance of their mansion. He looked at Zeke and said, "Get in."
Zeke asked, "But where are we even going?"
Cass replied, "You’ll find out once we’re there. No stop stalling and get in."
Zeke said, "If I didn’t know any better, I’d think that you were kidnapping me."
Cass said, "Seeing that you aren’t listening, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea."
Zeke said, "Alright, alright. Chill. I’m getting in."
With that, Zeke entered the car. Cass also got in and said to the driver, "Let’s go"
The driver nodded and began driving. Half an hour later, they arrived at their destination. Looking at the sight in front of him, Zeke looked at Cass and asked, "Um, Cass? Why are we here?"
Cass replied, "To deal with your feelings."
Zeke said, "No, I get that. I meant why here? Why are we at a junkyard?"
Cass smiled and said, "Of course...we’re here to break shit."
Zeke was dumbfounded and only managed to reply with a "Huh?"
