Chapter 105: Chapter 99: Cass’s Trial

The Demonic Scribe was about to take his leave, but Zeke said, "Wait."

The Demonic Scribe paused and asked, "What is it, my Liege?"

Zeke said, "You received a ritual when you participated in the Annual Sacrifice. You need to use it for the people. Tell them they can only receive the benefits of my regime if they participate."

The Demonic Scribe replied, "As you command, my Liege."

With that, he took his leave.

Time passed. The Demon Monarchs returned but left once again to deal with the weaker Clans and Sects. Each time they returned, they brought back many techniques. The Demonic Scribe sent regular reports as he traveled from one region to another. Zeke could feel the Faith growing stronger every day.

Zeke got busy forming a constitution. He wanted to ensure fairness and equality.

Not because he truly believed in those concepts, but because the happier the people were, the more their Faith would grow. He wanted to turn Murim into his personal farm for Faith.

So, he had to establish a few ground rules before he could begin. First, all land would be owned by the state. Farmers could cultivate it as long as they paid a certain percentage as tax. Everyone would receive a house based on the number of people in their family. Education would be free—both scholarly and martial. Sects would no longer exist.

After deciding this, he selected a few scholars to help him draft the constitution. They met every day and discussed laws that would create a just state. Another topic was the abolition of coins made from precious metals and the minting of paper money instead.

Zeke also suggested the concept of modern-day banks. As soon as they finalized something, Zeke ordered the necessary infrastructure to be built. This included schools, hospitals, roads, houses, and more.

However, Zeke realized a problem. As living conditions improved, so would the average life expectancy. If left unchecked, Murim would face the same issues as Old Earth—overpopulation and the depletion of natural resources.

Thus, he added an ironclad law to control the population: a couple could only have two children. This, of course, didn’t apply in cases of triplets or more children from one pregnancy, or if they had twins or more during their second pregnancy.

As time went on, all of Murim could sense the dawn of a new era. A better era. And they had one being to thank for it—the Asuran Neo-Nephilim Primogenitor.

[You know, I can’t even deny it at this point, so yeah. I am creating the bastard love child of communism and cults.]

Under Mammoth Head’s orders, the Spirit Beast Clans began assisting with infrastructure construction. This not only sped up the process considerably, but it also eased and improved relations between the two species. Before anyone realized it, three years had passed.

During those three years, the surveys had been completed, and the infrastructure was nearly finished. Under Zeke’s orders, the new constitution immediately went into effect.

At first, people couldn’t believe a ruler could be this generous without any downside, but gradually their thoughts began to change.

After ensuring that everything was running like a well-oiled machine, Zeke delegated his duties to the trio and went into seclusion again. He needed to research runes from the plethora of techniques he had gathered. Every so often, he would release the cultivation techniques he had created for the masses to practice.

Time passed once again, and before he realized it, the time for his return was drawing near.

The Main World – The night of Cass’s Ascension Trial.

Cass was sitting with his family.

He looked at them and said, "The Trial is about to begin. Wish me luck."

Leonel hugged him and said, "Go get ’em, tiger."

Katherine added, "Remain vigilant at all times."

Before Alexi could say anything, Cass disappeared. He found himself in a blank space. A System message appeared before him:

Ascension Trial will commence in 00:00:00.’

’Choose difficulty.’

’Transcendent / Transcendent Primogenitor.’

Before he could react, the same thing that had happened to Zeke occurred. The System interface in front of him started glitching.

’Choe/[;387$#%^#^$^#’

’TR@#%##^m3gbe7/ Pri907w382jnb’

’Error!’

’Error!’

’Error!’

’Choose difficulty.’

’Transcendent / Transcendent Primogenitor.’

’An Administrator has intervened.’

’You have chosen Transcendent Primogenitor.’

He disappeared and reappeared on a battlefield. There were bloodstains and rusted weapons scattered across the area. A System message appeared once again,

’Mission: Defeat all enemies.’

’Duration: ∞’

’Time left: ∞’

He quickly recovered and didn’t go on a cursing spree like Zeke had. He looked around but saw no one.

He muttered, "What enemies?"

He began wandering the battlefield, searching for the so-called enemies, but found none. As boredom set in, he accidentally touched a weapon.

Finally, something happened. An apparition that looked exactly like him appeared, wielding the same weapon he had just touched. It attacked him. Cass barely managed to pull the weapon from the ground and defend himself. It was a broadsword.

They fought until Cass finally defeated the apparition. Before he could catch his breath, the apparition split into two and attacked again. Each time he defeated one, it multiplied. By the time he was fighting ten apparitions at once, they began merging again.

The fight became even tougher as the apparitions grew stronger. So, Cass did the logical thing—he ran. But no matter how much he ran or tried to hide, the apparitions always found him. He lost track of time. It could have been a month or a year; he didn’t know.

His body was covered in wounds, and he had no access to any of his skills, yet he kept fighting. It was the last apparition—the strongest one yet. When he finally pierced its heart, the broadsword in his hand shattered.

No more apparitions appeared. Cass collapsed on the ground. It would take time for his wounds to heal, but he was happy the Trial was finally over. So, he waited. And waited. But nothing happened.

That’s when he had a grim realization.

He stared at the many weapons scattered across the battlefield and cursed, "Fuck my life."
