Chapter 39: Gifts

Selena entered the sitting room with her assistant trailing closely behind her. A warm and confident smile lit up her face, making her look every bit like the elegant movie star she was.

Her outfit was flawless, as always, with perfect hair and makeup that turned heads the moment she stepped in. Min Ho glanced over at Henry and let out a quiet sigh, shaking his head slightly. He could already sense trouble coming from a mile away.

The grandparents looked shocked to see her walk in so unexpectedly. The old master raised his eyebrows and asked in a warm voice, "Selena, dear, when did you come back? We had no idea you were in town."

Henry’s younger sister, Alan, jumped into the conversation right away, her eyes wide with excitement. "I thought you were already married! Everyone was talking about it online and sharing pictures everywhere."

Selena laughed softly and waved her hand in a graceful motion, brushing off the idea like it was nothing important. "Oh, it’s just a silly rumour," she explained smoothly.

"Most of those pictures circulating online are actually scenes from the movie I acted in with Laurence West." The moment the name Laurence West left her lips, Alan’s eyes lit up with pure interest and excitement. She had been dying to get his autograph for months now, but he was known for being incredibly difficult to reach.

Fans and even important people found it almost impossible to get close to him. Only someone like Henry had the kind of influence to summon him, though Henry hated being bothered with such personal requests.

The girl leaned forward in her seat, clearly hooked by the conversation and hanging on every word.

Selena noticed the young girl’s excitement and smiled happily, looking pleased with the attention she was receiving. "I’d be glad to help arrange something," she said kindly.

"When will you be free?" Before anyone else could jump in, the old master started sharing old stories about Laurence.

He went on and on about how intelligent the actor had been even as a young boy, recalling funny and impressive details from years ago with great enthusiasm. His voice filled the room as he described clever things Laurence did in school and how everyone could already tell he would become a star one day.

Abigail sat the whole time quietly, keeping a calm expression on her face while she listened carefully. She felt a bit ignored, as the attention mostly stayed on Selena and the charming stories about the famous actor.

It was like she had become invisible for a few minutes. But she did not let it bother her on the outside. Instead, she simply observed everything around her, taking mental notes about the family dynamics and how everyone interacted.

She noticed the way the grandparents doted on Selena and how Henry’s sister looked almost starstruck.

Suddenly, Selena clapped her hands together with delight, drawing everyone’s attention back to her. At her signal, several bodyguards walked into the room carrying loads of beautifully wrapped gifts. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

The boxes and bags looked expensive and carefully chosen, creating a wave of surprise and appreciation across the room. Soft murmurs and happy comments filled the air as the family reacted to the generous display.

This made Abigail realise something important. It was her first time visiting Henry’s family, and she had not brought any gifts at all.

The thought hit her suddenly, making her feel a little out of place. It was as if her own worry had opened the door for everyone else’s thoughts. Almost at once, the family members turned their heads and glanced in her direction. The silence in that moment felt heavy and a bit uncomfortable.

Abigail did not avoid their eyes. She simply shrugged with a small, casual smile and said, "Oops! My bad." That was all she offered.

Honestly, she had not expected to end up here like this in the middle of a big family gathering. She was not here to please anyone or play the role of the perfect future wife.

This whole marriage was just a contract after all, and she had no plans to pretend it was something more. Her relaxed and honest response surprised a few people around the table. Some raised their eyebrows, while others hid small smiles, clearly amused by how straightforward she was being.

Min Ho walked over to Selena and sighed deeply. "I told you to stop," he said quietly, his voice low enough that only she could hear clearly.

"You will end up destroying yourself." Without waiting for a reply or any explanation, he turned around and headed toward the game room.

He already had enough of the unfolding drama and was ready to escape it all.

Meanwhile, Henry stayed busy talking with his two assistants, Joshua and Luna. The three of them spoke seriously in low voices, their heads close together.

From the way they kept glancing toward Abigail now and then, she could tell they were probably discussing matters related to her company. Their focused expressions made the conversation look important and a little intense, like they were planning something big behind the scenes.

Selena’s warm smile did not fade even for a second. She began delivering the luxury bags one by one to everyone around the table. She handed them out gracefully, remembering each person’s taste and adding kind words as she went.

The family members accepted the gifts with genuine delight. They admired the expensive items, opened them with excitement, and thanked her warmly.

The atmosphere felt lively and full of appreciation for her thoughtful gestures. Laughter and happy chatter spread through the room as people showed off what they received.

Then her assistant stepped forward and placed one elegant white package bag right in front of Abigail. Selena turned to her with the same bright, confident smile. "And that is yours, Miss," she said sweetly, her eyes sparkling with something that looked like a mix of kindness and challenge.

The whole scene carried an interesting mix of warmth, hidden tensions, and unexpected moments. Abigail looked down at the beautiful white bag in front of her, her mind already racing with thoughts.

She wondered what new twist this gift would bring to an already eventful evening with Henry’s powerful family.

The night had started with surprises, and it seemed determined to keep them coming, one after another. Everyone at the table waited to see how she would react to Selena’s present.
