Chapter 37: Michelson Family
The next morning, Abigail woke up to a gentle touch on her shoulder. A kind-looking maid stood beside the bed with a soft smile. "Good morning, Miss. It’s time to get ready," the maid said quietly.
Abigail rubbed her eyes and sat up slowly, still feeling the weight of everything that had happened the night before. When she glanced at the outfit laid out for her, her mood soured instantly. A beautiful black pearl dress hung neatly on the rack, shimmering under the light. She did not like black at all. It felt too dark and serious for her. She knew without asking that this was Henry’s idea. Still, she let the maids help her into the dress because there was no point in fighting over clothes right now.
As they worked, the maids kept complimenting her nonstop. "You look stunning, Miss," one said with wide eyes. "This dress was made for you.
So elegant and graceful." Another added, "Mr Henry will be pleased. You’re glowing." Abigail forced a small smile, but her mind was somewhere else. She kept thinking about what was to come next. Today, she would meet Henry’s family and friends for the first time. The thought made her stomach twist. She had never done anything like this before, stepping into such a powerful and unfamiliar world as part of a contract marriage.
After they finished dressing her, the maids handed her a matching purse and led her downstairs. A sleek black BMW waited outside with the door already open.
Abigail slid into the back seat, and moments later, Henry joined her. She looked at him and could not help rolling her eyes. He was dressed in black too, looking sharp and composed as always.
"Why did you choose black for me?" she asked, a bit annoyed. "It’s bad enough that you’re wearing it too."
Henry shrugged. "I like it," he replied calmly.
Abigail rolled her eyes again and muttered under her breath, "Does that mean I’m supposed to like it too?" She tried to focus on the scenery outside the window, but soon a strange feeling crept over her again. It started with light sweating, even though the car was cool. The closer she sat to Henry, the worse it got. Her skin felt hot, and her head began to spin a little. She remembered the injection from before, the one no one seemed to understand yet. Something was definitely wrong with her body, but she did not know what. She took a few deep breaths and tried to push the discomfort away.
The car moved smoothly through the city and soon turned into the largest estate Abigail had ever seen. The gates opened like magic, revealing beautiful grounds that stretched on forever. "Michelson," she whispered when she saw the name on the entrance.
She clenched her fists tightly in her lap. Her heart pounded hard. She was damn nervous. This was Henry’s family world, full of power and expectations, and she had no idea how to fit in.
The car rolled to a stop in front of the grand main house. Abigail let out a heavy sigh, gathered her courage, and stepped out. The fresh air helped a little, but as she stood up, the world seemed to double for a second. She tried to steady herself, blinking quickly to clear her vision.
Right in front of her stood a tall, chilling man covered in tattoos. He looked incredibly good-looking but in a wild, untamed way that made him stand out. He flashed a bright smile the moment he saw her.
"Ohh, wow, so beautiful!" he said with real surprise in his voice. "Hello? My name is Mhi Ho." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Abigail nodded politely, still trying to hide how dizzy she felt. " Hi, Mr Mhi Ho"
Mhi Ho’s smile slowly faded as he watched her more closely. He excused himself quickly, stepping aside to answer a call. "Is the doctor awake yet?" he asked the person on the other end. He listened for a moment, nodded once, and then hung up. " Damn! This is getting annoying"
Henry waited for her with his usual calm expression. Once they reached the entrance area, Abigail could not hold back anymore. "Stop giving me that look," she snorted, trying to sound braver than she felt.
Henry looked straight ahead. "Don’t say anything till..." he started.
"Yeah, of course," Abigail cut in with a dramatic nod. "I should just act mute the whole time."
Henry slowly turned his head and looked down at her. She kept going, her voice full of sarcasm and nerves. "Even if they ask for my name, I should ignore them completely. Or maybe I can just stick my long nails in their eyes like this." She raised her hands and demonstrated the motion dramatically, poking the air with her fingers while breathing heavily for effect.
The whole thing looked so over-the-top that it almost turned the tense moment into something funny. Henry wanted to ask if she was okay. She was clearly acting strangely. But his usual arrogance stopped him from saying the words. He simply shook his head slightly and led her inside.
They stepped into the grand family hall where several relatives waited. The grandparents sat near the centre, looking regal and observant. The moment Grandmother saw Abigail, a smirk spread across her face. "How did he force you?" she asked with a mix of amusement and concern. "Just tell me, dear. I will avenge you."
Before Abigail could respond, Henry’s younger sister bounced into the room with sparkling eyes full of interest. "Kidnapped?" she asked excitedly. "Bribe? Ohhhh, did he threaten you?"
The questions came fast, turning the serious family meeting into something almost like a playful interrogation.
To everyone’s surprise, Abigail suddenly nodded. "Yeah..." she said, going along with the wild ideas. The room fell into a short, shocked silence.
Henry turned and looked at her in confusion, not expecting that response. The air felt electric with unspoken questions and hidden smiles as the family stared at the new arrival, who had just made things a lot more interesting.
" Really?" The old woman asked. " I knew it!!"
