Chapter 62: Caelum’s Dog

After waiting for quite a while longer, only Caelum and Ryan remained within their group who had yet to receive their summons.

And finally, it was Caelum’s turn.

Slightly excited, he stepped forward toward Volka and immediately requested a Beast Summon without hesitation.

"Why are you specifically interested in beast summons?" Volka asked, though his eyes still remained fixed on Caelum with unusual interest.

"I already have a spirit-type companion, so this time I want a beast!" Caelum replied honestly.

Volka’s eyes twitched slightly upon hearing that answer.

Suppressing his urge to complain his little boasting, Volka simply handed him a Beast Summoning Crystal.

Caelum accepted it enthusiastically before crushing the crystal.

The summoning activated at once, and his consciousness drifted into the familiar mysterious white space connected to the Summoning Goddess.

The moment he looked at the divine statue standing there, his expression became strange.

"Why does this place seriously feel like some kind of gacha game?" he muttered.

Then, after preparing himself mentally, Caelum began his prayer with complete seriousness.

"Oh great Goddess Oõleru, this poor lamb humbly seeks a powerful, reliable, intelligent, loyal, majestic, useful, and preferably cool-looking summon that can..."

Suddenly, the summoning process activated before he could even finish speaking.

"...What the hell? Wait!"

Caelum stared blankly as the summoning had already started on its own.

All the preparations he had made beforehand instantly became meaningless.

Feeling slightly wronged by the situation, he turned toward the second pillar where the summoned creature’s image was beginning to form.

And honestly, the entire process looked even more like a gacha system now.

A golden-brown dog slowly appeared within his vision.

However, the moment Caelum looked carefully at the image, he noticed something deeply disturbing.

The dog was smiling and not in a normal way either. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

It was an extremely suspicious and ugly smile.

"...No way I’m getting a dog like this," Caelum muttered instinctively.

The next moment, his consciousness returned to reality.

THUD!

From the summoning circle, a small dog suddenly appeared directly in his lap.

"My peaceful days are finally over... woooof..." the dog cried dramatically while lying in his arms.

Voomie looked up at her new caretaker with teary eyes.

At the very least, his appearance was not bad.

Meanwhile, Caelum stared down at this dog in confusion.

"Damn... a talking dog," he muttered.

The dog resembled a Chihuahua, possessing golden-brown fur and unusually expressive eyes.

Considering how strange today had already become, a talking dog no longer felt that shocking.

At least it looked somewhat cute if it did not smile that uglily.

Meanwhile, Volka narrowed his eyes deeply while staring at Voomie.

’Why is a Heavenly Beast here...?’ he thought inwardly.

At this point, the Black Dragon genuinely felt mentally exhausted.

Within a single day he had already witnessed many things.

And now, a Heavenly Beast connected to luck itself had somehow appeared through a beginner-level summoning ritual, that could be bought by money.

Volka released a long sigh.

Apparently, if anything even stranger happened now, he would no longer be surprised anymore.

"The dog’s smile is quite... ugly?" Loreal said slowly, even though everyone nearby clearly heard her comment.

Caelum’s expression immediately soured at those words.

Without hesitation, he lifted the small dog with both hands and carefully examined her face himself.

The dog immediately responded with another wide smile.

"...Damn," Caelum muttered instinctively.

Now that he looked properly, the smile genuinely did appear extremely suspicious, almost as though someone had forcibly stretched it onto her face against her will.

"Woof! Put me down!" the dog protested indignantly.

Caelum eventually released her, allowing the small Chihuahua-like creature to land on the ground safely.

However, while the others merely found the dog strange or amusing, Jojo the panda was currently staring at Voomie with an unusually grave expression.

’How can a Chihuchi appear here...?’ he thought inwardly.

The more he observed the tiny dog, the more unsettled he became.

’Is this truly the Earthly Plane, or have I somehow wandered into the playground of some supreme existence?’

At one point, Jojo even briefly suspected he had fallen into a large-scale illusion.

Unfortunately, reality appeared to be genuine.

Meanwhile, Ryan, who had been waiting impatiently the entire time, finally lost his composure.

"When exactly is my turn going to come?!" he yelled in frustration.

"Calm down," Skyler replied with an unusually enlightened expression while crossing his arms proudly as a golden slime sat upon his head.

"It’s not like the instructor would skip you just because you’re missing a tooth."

"Why do you sound so smug all of a sudden?" Loreal asked suspiciously.

Ever since becoming a Saint, Skyler had started acting strangely wise for absolutely no reason.

Meanwhile, Paul adjusted his glasses seriously before giving Ryan what he believed was valuable advice.

"Ryan, I think you should begin praying sincerely to Goddess Oõleru from now onward, maybe she would select a summon for you herself."

Ryan’s expression twitched slightly.

And just as the group continued talking, three figures suddenly approached from the distance.

Bonjour and Sénior had returned and alongside them walked Elder Gurath of the Barbarian Race.

The moment the two barbarians arrived near the summoning grounds, Sénior immediately looked around with slight curiosity.

"I see many spirits here," he commented while observing the various summoned creatures wandering around the students.

Bonjour, meanwhile, narrowed his eyes slightly as he sensed the different energies filling the area.

"Something strange happened here, why are there suddenly so many beasts around?"

"A mass summoning session is currently taking place," Elder Gurath explained calmly while surveying the surroundings.

Just then, one of the school instructors hurried toward them before respectfully whispering something to Gurath.

The group then began walking toward Volka’s position.

The moment Elder Gurath saw Volka properly, his eyes sharpened slightly.

He immediately recognized the aura hidden beneath the human disguise.

’A dragon...?’

A faint smile appeared on his face.

’Now this becomes interesting. I did not expect a dragon to be present here as well.’

At the same time, the instructor accompanying them also quietly explained the situation to Volka.

The Black Dragon’s expression twitched the moment he heard the details.

"Is that old man treating me like some kind of joke?" Volka muttered inwardly.

New students had suddenly been added to the summoning session midway through the class.

Volka stared silently at the old barbarian for a few moments.

No matter how he looked at the situation, the idea of Elder Gurath being considered a student felt completely absurd.
