Chapter 1920: Blake’s Power
The Hero Agency’s training facility was on the east side of the building, separated from the main offices by a long corridor that Ning had walked through maybe twice in his life. Blake was standing at the door when Ning arrived, which was already unusual. Blake was not the type to wait at doors, but to pick him up at the gate.
He looked perfectly normal. A little tired maybe, perhaps due to his lack of sleep, but otherwise fine.
"Good. You came," Blake said, and pushed the door open, gesturing inside.
Ning stepped through and looked.
The training floor was wide and well-lit, with padded sections and open sparring space. A few people were inside at various points around the room already, despite the sun having yet to come out.
One was doing pull-ups near the far wall. One was seated on the floor reviewing something. One was walking a slow circle near the center, stretching his neck.
He wondered why Blake brought him to such a crowded place. Surely he didn’t want others knowing that he had a new power, right?
Ning was about to speak when something caught his eyes that gave him pause. He looked at each of the people in the room.
Then he looked again.
A look of awe appeared on him as he realized something fully absurd.
They all had the same face.
The same face as Blake, who was standing next to him.
Ning turned to him slowly. "You can make clones?"
"Yes!" Blake said excitedly.
"More than one?" Ning asked.
"Six in total actually, including me," Blake said, clearly thrilled by the reaction.
"Are you the main one?"
Blake nodded.
Ning looked at the group, all of whom continued what they were doing.
"Are they independent?"
"Not entirely," Blake answered. "I know at some level what is going on with each one of them. But if you’re asking me whether I have to control them or not, then no. They are able to fully handle themselves and make any and all decisions. I have already tested the mental limits and found out that each one is an exact copy of me and is capable of doing what I can do."
"Perfect clones," Ning said as he scratched his chin. "How did you find out what power you had?" ƒrēewebnovel.com
"I used it in my sleep," Blake said. "I woke up with another one of me next to me."
"And how do you know you’re the real one?" Ning asked.
"I just do?" Blake asked, not knowing how to explain the feeling.
Ning looked around the room again. The one doing pull-ups met his eyes briefly and nodded. It was deeply strange. "What’s up with them then?" he asked.
"I tested my mental capabilities, so I was now testing my physical limits," Blake said. "That’s why I called you, actually. I don’t know what they can and can’t do. I’m pretty sure they are exactly the same as me, but I’m curious if I can ever make more or if I have already hit the limits of my powers as well."
Ning thought for a moment. "Have any of them done anything strenuous?"
"The one near the wall has been doing pull-ups for about twenty minutes."
"Twenty minutes? Isn’t he tired yet?" Ning asked.
"He’s very tired, but he’s pushing himself for the purpose of these tests. He takes a small break in between and gets right back into it," Blake said.
Ning thought for a bit. "Any of them hungry?" he asked.
"Uhh... no," Blake said after going through each of the 5 clones in his mind. "Only me."
"Have you eaten yet?" Ning asked.
"I had a piece of bread, and so did the first clone."
"Do you share pain?"
"Not really," Blake answered. "I can tell I’m in pain, but it doesn’t actually hurt me. It’s a weird sensation to explain."
Ning nodded, now having only one final question.
"Can you take them away?"
Blake paused. He hadn’t tried doing that until now. In fact, he hadn’t even considered it.
"Uhh... let me try," he said. Nothing happened by him just thinking about it, so he had one of the clones walk back toward him.
Blake touched the man’s shoulders and suddenly he vanished, leaving behind a pile of clothes. Blake shuddered slightly.
Ning caught his arm. "You alright?"
"Yeah." Blake pressed his fingers against his temple. "That was... strange. Like a wave of dizziness for a split second. I hope it’s not like this every time."
"You might just have to get used to this."
Blake looked at the others and spoke out loud something he had been wondering for a while. "What do you think might happen if they were to die? Would I also die?"
The other clones paused for a moment, having sensed his question themselves, before going back to work.
Ning thought for a moment before shaking his head. "Hard to say. You’ll have to get your powers checked out in the DPA as well. They could likely tell you."
Blake nodded. "I might have to do just that," he said. "There are a few more things I want to test though, including how long they can exist and how far they can exist from me before vanishing."
Ning thought for a moment. "We might also have to check how they function under suppression fields. You don’t want them to accidentally walk into suppression fields and melt away, do you?"
"No, I don’t," Blake said. "There is one up here right now that I can activate and test."
Ning nodded. "You do that. Meanwhile, I’ll carry one of you away from here."
What followed was half a day of just that. Testing.
By afternoon, Blake had learned a lot more about his powers.
Distance did nothing to the clones, but it did lower his connection with them. Suppression fields did something similar as well, fully disrupting his connection with them.
The other various tests showed that each of his clones was truly a perfect clone of him. And for now, 5 was the max of it.
The only thing Blake was left to wonder was what would happen should one of his clones, or even him, die.
