Chapter 490: Chapter 490: Don’t Touch My Sister
Grace Sutton was taken aback by Caleb Summers’s words. ’What does this have to do with my son, Ian Summers?’
Grace Sutton was too stunned to react immediately. Seeing her silence, Caleb Summers assumed he’d guessed right. ’I knew it! My brother and his wife are up to no good! They’re using the fact that Ian Summers was raised by Grandma to try and swallow all three properties for themselves!’
’They’re outrageously greedy!’
Caleb Summers seethed with resentment. He glared at Grace Sutton and said through gritted teeth, "Sister-in-law, don’t mind my harsh words, but your son Ian has been away in the army for years. In times like these, it’s not even certain he’ll come back alive! You and your husband shouldn’t be so blatant with your scheming. Be careful your son Ian doesn’t have the fortune to enjoy it. He might have the life to get the money, but not the life to spend it!"
Grace Sutton understood those words perfectly. A furious rage ignited within her, shooting straight to her head. ’That bastard! How dare he curse my son!’
Ian Summers was Grace Sutton’s only child. Caleb Summers’s words were tantamount to dancing on a landmine.
Without another word, Grace Sutton rolled up her sleeves and started swinging, landing heavy punches on Caleb Summers’s face. "You son of a bitch!" she roared as she hit him. "You dare curse my son?! I’ll kill you!"
Caught off guard, Caleb Summers took two hard punches to the face, and his nose immediately started bleeding.
He was a scholar who worked in an office and was no match for Grace Sutton, who’d spent years doing manual labor in a factory. He was completely unable to fight back, only able to cover his head, dodge, and howl in pain.
Seeing her husband being beaten one-sidedly, Zoe Kane was frantic. But Grace Sutton was a head taller and much stronger, so she didn’t dare step in to help. All she could do was cast a pleading look at her mother-in-law, hoping she would stop them.
But Grandma just stood by with her arms crossed, watching coldly. She had no intention of breaking up the fight. After the vile things Caleb Summers had just said, it wouldn’t be going too far even if Grace Sutton beat him to death!
Just then, however, Howard Fletcher suddenly charged at Grace Sutton with his fists swinging, shouting, "You bitch! How dare you hit my dad! I’m going to kill you!"
With lightning-fast reflexes, before Howard Fletcher could even get close to Grace Sutton, Melody Summers sent him flying with another kick!
With a dull THUD, Howard Fletcher’s head slammed hard against the coffee table as he fell.
Zoe Kane was scared out of her wits when she saw this. She cried out and threw herself over Howard Fletcher, her face filled with concern. "Leo! Leo! Are you okay?!"
Seeing Howard Fletcher was completely dazed from the fall, Zoe Kane lifted her head and glared at Melody Summers with pure hatred, her voice cracking as she demanded, "How could you kick him! Leo is just a child! How could you be so cruel!"
Melody Summers just chuckled at her words. "You call that cruel? If it weren’t for the fact that he’s a child, I might have just sent him to reunite with his mother!"
Howard Fletcher already had a terrible temper. How could he possibly tolerate what Melody Summers just said?
He roared in fury, shoved Zoe Kane off him, and pulled a paring knife from his pocket, lunging straight for Melody Summers—
"Bitch! If you won’t give me the house, then you can just die!"
At that moment, Howard Fletcher’s eyes held a murderous intent that belied his age. ’As long as I kill this woman in front of me,’ he thought, ’the house will be mine!’
’I’m not even twelve yet. The internet says it doesn’t matter if you kill someone at my age!’
But before he could reach Melody Summers, Nina Summers, who had been standing to the side, lunged at him—
"Don’t touch my sister!"
Unable to dodge in time, Howard Fletcher was shoved hard by Nina Summers and stumbled sideways uncontrollably. He reflexively swung the knife in his hand, and the sharp blade sliced straight across Nina Summers’s shoulder.
In Nina Summers’s mind, the moment was infinitely magnified. She could almost hear the sound of the blade slicing through her flesh, inch by inch—
A gash was torn open on her left shoulder by the knife in Howard Fletcher’s hand. Blood spurted out instantly, followed by a searing pain that made her gasp sharply!
Melody Summers was stunned. She hadn’t expected Nina Summers to throw herself at Howard Fletcher. ’Luckily, Howard is young and short. If he’d been just a few centimeters taller, that blade would have likely sliced Nina’s throat...’
Seeing Howard Fletcher fall and immediately try to swing the knife at Nina Summers again, Melody Summers dashed forward and smashed her phone hard against his temple!
With a THUD! THUD!, Howard Fletcher’s vision went black, and he passed out cold, the raised knife clattering to the floor.
Everything had happened in just over ten seconds. The adults in the living room were all frozen in shock. Zoe Kane was especially terrified by the sudden turn of events; her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the floor.
Melody Summers rushed forward to press down on Nina Summers’s bleeding wound, saying anxiously, "Why did you..."
She wanted to ask Nina Summers why she’d been so foolish. With her slender frame, why would she just charge over like that? It wasn’t even certain Howard Fletcher could have hurt her with that knife. But seeing Nina’s face, pale with pain, she swallowed her words.
Just then, Zoe Kane was the first to snap out of it. Seeing Howard Fletcher lying on the ground, his condition unknown, she burst into tears. She scrambled over to him, screaming shrilly, "Leo! Don’t scare me!"
Chester Summers was also terrified by the scene and sat on the floor, bawling his eyes out.
Grandma frantically pulled out the first-aid kit from beside the sofa and rummaged through it for a roll of gauze to bandage Nina Summers’s wound. Her hands were trembling with urgency.
Seeing this, Grace Sutton lost all interest in fighting with Caleb Summers. She gave him a hard shove and yelled, "Caleb Summers, your son just committed assault with a deadly weapon! That’s a crime! I’m calling the police! You can all just wait to rot in prison!"
With that, she pulled out her phone and made a show of dialing 911.
This sent Zoe Kane into a complete meltdown. She screamed at Grace Sutton, "What right do you have to call the police? You’re the ones who knocked Leo unconscious! If anyone’s calling the police, it should be us!"
Then she turned to Caleb Summers, crying, "Honey! Call the police! They knocked Leo out! I can’t wake him up! Come look!"
The living room had descended into utter chaos, far beyond what Caleb Summers had anticipated. Hearing both Zoe Kane and Grace Sutton screaming about calling the police, his mind was a complete jumble.
But through the chaos, one clear thought cut through the noise—his instincts screamed at him: ’We absolutely cannot call the police!’
They were the ones who had shown up demanding the house, and Howard was the one who had attacked with a knife first. Even if Howard was under twelve, they didn’t have a leg to stand on.
He was about to be promoted. This was a critical time, and so many eyes were on him. He couldn’t afford a single mistake, let alone get involved with the police right now!
Once he had a clear head, he pulled Zoe Kane to her feet, picked up the unconscious Howard Fletcher, and said in a low voice, "Enough. Now is not the time to call the police. Leo’s health is more important. Let’s take him to the hospital first!"
