Chapter 483: Chapter 483

Nina Summers was clearly consumed by hatred. She refused to even call Caleb Summers her father.

Hateful tears streamed from her eyes as Nina Summers spoke in a choked voice, "Cousin, Caleb Summers... he’s a monster. Did you know he was cheating with Zoe Kane while my mom was still alive? They got together years ago..."

"I heard it with my own ears... He told that Zoe Kane... he said it was a good thing my mom died. He even said that if she had died a few years sooner, it would have been for the best. That way, he could have had his son earlier..."

"He also told Zoe Kane that he never expected my mom, as sick as she was, to live for so long—so long that he couldn’t wait anymore... He said if my mom hadn’t died in the natural disaster, he would’ve planned an ’accident’ to get rid of her sooner and make room for Zoe Kane..."

At this, the hatred in Nina Summers’s eyes was impossible to hide. Her face was streaked with tears as she spoke with a near-frenzied look, "Everything he has! The house he lives in! The car he drives! Even his job! It all came from my mom’s family... How could he! How could he do that to my mom!"

"I’m going to make him cough up every single thing he got from my mom!"

Having said her piece, Nina Summers couldn’t hold it in any longer. She covered her face with her hands and broke down, sobbing.

After listening to Nina, Melody Summers fell silent.

’If all of this is true...’

’If I were Nina, I would also do everything in my power to get revenge on Caleb Summers.’

After a long moment, Melody Summers sighed and said to Nina, "Stop crying for now. First, give me the ring."

Nina Summers bit down hard, forcing her tears back, and handed the ring she had been clutching in her palm to Melody.

Melody Summers slipped the ring into her pocket, then secretly transferred it into her pocket dimension. That way, even if the police grew suspicious and came to search the house, they could turn the place upside down and still never find it.

As long as Zara Walsh had no surveillance footage, she would have to swallow this bitter pill for the time being.

A diamond ring worth hundreds of millions was enough to make even an heiress like Zara Walsh feel the sting.

’Since Zara Walsh wants to frame me, she has to pay a price.’

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Melody’s expression changed. She patted Nina’s shoulder and told her, "This isn’t going to be over so easily. Go back to your room. I’ll handle them."

After receiving Zara Walsh’s call, the police soon arrived to investigate.

A theft case involving hundreds of millions was no small matter. The police meticulously searched every corner of the villa and eventually found some clues in a room on the second floor.

One of the officers frowned. "It looks like the thief most likely got in through the second-floor balcony..."

He then turned to Zara Walsh, who was standing nearby. "Are you certain all the security cameras, both inside and outside the villa, are broken?"

Zara Walsh nodded, feigning anxiety. "Yes, they all broke from the cold during the blizzard! I haven’t had a chance to install new ones yet. Oh, what am I going to do!"

Looking at the diamond certificate and the massive proof of payment Zara Walsh provided, the officer sighed, feeling a headache coming on. The number of zeros on that receipt was staggering.

With a grave expression, he told Zara Walsh, "Try not to panic. We’ll go back and pull the footage from nearby cameras to see if any suspicious individuals entered the neighborhood. That should help us narrow down the list of suspects."

Another officer chimed in, "There have been a lot of construction crews working on the mountain behind the houses lately. With so many people coming and going, it’s possible one of them got some crooked ideas. Let’s check the cameras in that area, too..."

Zara Walsh listened to the officers’ discussion with a distracted air. It wasn’t until she was leaving the villa with them that she noticed Nina Summers was nowhere to be seen by the gate. That’s when she started to panic.

’Why isn’t Nina doing what we agreed on?! She’s supposed to pretend she heard the commotion and be waiting at the gate to give the police a "tip"!’

’Did Nina backstab me?!’

The thought had barely formed in Zara Walsh’s mind before she stamped it out. ’Nina wouldn’t dare do that!’

’Not unless she’s stopped caring whether she and her own father live or die. She wouldn’t dare!’

’So what’s the reason?’

’Did she fall asleep? Did she not hear the commotion?’

Seeing the officers preparing to get in their car and leave, Zara Walsh panicked. Without a second thought, she blurted out, "Wait! Don’t go yet!"

One of the officers turned to her. "What is it? Do you have another lead for us?"

Staring at the officer, Zara Walsh felt her back begin to sweat with anxiety.

She gritted her teeth, pointed at the Summers Villa next door, and said to the officer, "Officer, my neighbors have been home this entire time. Why don’t you ask them if they have any leads?"

Without waiting for the officer’s consent, she rushed over to the Summerses’ front door and mashed the doorbell.

A moment later, the door opened. It was Melody Summers.

The moment she saw Zara Walsh, Melody Summers froze for a second—she almost didn’t recognize the person in front of her.

Zara’s once-silky, curly hair had been cropped short, and her previously smooth, well-cared-for skin had grown rough. She looked as if she had aged several years. The arrogant gleam in her eyes was gone, as if shrouded by a dark cloud.

It seemed her few months in prison had been a severe ordeal for Zara Walsh.

The instant she saw Melody Summers, Zara Walsh’s eyes blazed with fury.

Hatred surged through her uncontrollably. If the police hadn’t been walking up behind her, she would have slapped Melody across the face right then and there.

It was all Melody Summers’s fault she’d ended up like this!

As Melody and Zara were locked in a staring contest, the officers walked up.

The lead officer explained the situation to Melody, who shook her head and replied with a look of utmost sincerity, "I’m sorry, Officer. My family and I only just moved back in the day before yesterday. We’ve been busy unpacking, so I haven’t seen anyone suspicious."

She paused for a moment, then asked, as if it were an afterthought, "A big villa like that, doesn’t it have any security cameras installed?"

The officers didn’t reply, but Melody could read the answer in their eyes. She breathed a silent sigh of relief. ’Nina was right. To make the frame-up work, Zara really didn’t leave any surveillance evidence.’

At this thought, Melody scoffed internally. It was almost laughable.

’Zara is still Zara. Even a stint in prison didn’t change her one bit. She’s so confident she can just throw her weight around, so sure that everyone will just meekly obey her without fighting back.’

’If she weren’t so overconfident, she wouldn’t have left herself without a backup plan.’

The officers listened to Melody, nodded, and said, "We understand. Thank you for your cooperation."

With that, they turned to leave.

Seeing them about to leave, Zara grew even more frantic. "Please, wait!" she called out to the officers.

Then she yelled toward the house, "Melody Summers, your word doesn’t mean anything! Get everyone else in your house out here! Maybe one of them saw something!"

Melody sneered at her. "Zara, who do you think you are, interrogating a criminal? Why should my family have to cooperate with you?"
