Chapter 226: Chapter 214: Why Are They Here?

Zombies were mutated creatures with no intelligence or sense of pain. The Juggernaut would destroy one wave, only for another to take its place. Lex Cross suddenly said to Saul Sterling, "Find the exact location of that Middle-level zombie." Then, he gently patted Flora Bloom. "Don’t worry. Let me give it a try?"

Flora Bloom turned to meet Lex Cross’s gaze and was suddenly reminded of how she had teamed up with the little white tiger when they first entered the base. ’Her Water Element combined with his Thunder Element is far more powerful than his Thunder Element alone.’

"Wait." As she spoke, her deep blue Water Ability transformed into countless tiny droplets that fanned out through the air. Flora Bloom spread her power to the very edge of her controllable range, showering the surrounding zombies in what looked like a fine, misty rain. freewebnoveℓ.com

A sudden, explosive burst of Thunder Energy erupted from Lex Cross, blooming into countless electric flowers from mid-air amidst the horde of zombies.

The lightning, amplified by Flora Bloom’s Water Ability, instantly wiped out huge swaths of the horde. Combined with the Juggernaut’s might, a clearing piled high with zombie corpses instantly opened up before them.

Though more zombies continued to surge forward, their advance was slower than before. Thanks to Flora Bloom and Lex Cross’s seamless teamwork, another large group was blasted to the ground before they could even begin to surround them.

The air crackled with wild, rampant Thunder Energy. After they repeated this a dozen or so times, the clearing in front of them was completely filled with zombie corpses. For some reason, the horde that should have kept pressing the attack no longer rushed forward to their deaths.

"Boss, that Middle-level zombie is too cunning! It’s mixed in with the low-level hordes, and I’ve lost it!"

"COUGH, COUGH! Should we keep moving forward?" A look of fatigue and a sickly pallor crept over Saul Sterling’s face. He coughed twice, suppressing a powerful feeling of suffocation in his chest, and turned to Flora Bloom with concern.

Flora Bloom turned and gave Lex Cross a suspicious look.

"What’s wrong?"

Hearing Flora Bloom, Saul Sterling turned to Lex Cross. "Boss, you...?"

Lex Cross waved a hand, cutting Saul Sterling off. "It’s a small issue. It’ll be fine in a little while!"

But Flora Bloom’s expression was serious as she stared at him. "It’s from when you were at the bottom of the sea, isn’t it?"

Lex Cross gave a pale smile. "It’s really nothing. Our true strength is suppressed here on Earth. I had to force myself to use my Origin Power when I fought the Great Crow on the seabed that day, and I sustained some minor injuries. It’s nothing serious."

Saul Sterling’s eyes widened. "Boss, how can damage to your Origin Power be a minor issue?"

"Once my superpower reaches the High-level, I’ll be able to absorb Spiritual Energy and other energies from the universe on my own. I’ll be able to recover then."

Flora Bloom lowered her gaze. "Let’s go. We’ll head back and get a good night’s rest. We can come back tomorrow morning to clear out this area before going to Area 009 to find my dad."

"That Middle-level zombie is hard enough to deal with as it is. Besides, zombies are stronger at night than during the day. We should go back for tonight."

The moment Flora Bloom finished speaking, a smile played on Lex Cross’s lips. "Alright. Whatever you say."

Kane Warren had fallen silent the moment he saw Flora Bloom and Lex Cross working together to slaughter entire waves of zombies.

He’d originally planned to use the chaos of a full-on siege as cover to escape. The existence of the Juggernaut, however, had cut the chances of that plan succeeding by more than half. Now, seeing that the two of them could face a horde of ten thousand zombies without being defeated, he completely abandoned any thought of running.

’Escape? That would only get me killed faster.’

The four of them rode the Juggernaut back to the base’s perimeter. After Flora Bloom stored it away in her space, they walked to the gate of the villa district. With Morgan Sterling dead, it was a case of "when the tree falls, the monkeys scatter." His former subordinates had apparently each claimed a villa for themselves, and the entrance was no longer guarded.

Awaiting them were Five, Sherman Lynch, and a few others. But to Flora’s surprise, Chelsea Todd was also there, leading a familiar face forward to greet them with a look of deep concern.

Only, they weren’t there to greet Flora Bloom. They were there for Lex Cross.

Tianna Bloom was dressed in a tight, white leather top and matching pants, complete with a pair of chunky-heeled leather shoes. Her long hair was tied up in a high ponytail. She stared at Lex Cross, her face tense and her eyes filled with profound concern.

"Lex, I heard from Chelsea you’d gone out and hadn’t returned. I was so worried about you. Your father was afraid something might have happened, so he arranged for a fighter jet to bring me here. Are you alright?"

On top of that, Stephen Bloom was also looking at Lex Cross with great concern. "Lex, my boy, Tianna was worried sick when she heard you’d been out for days with no word! Look, she rushed all the way here from Argent just for you. You can’t let her sincere feelings go to waste!"

"That’s right, Lex. Before we left, your father specifically told Tianna to take good care of you. Now that you’re back, where are you staying? I’ll have Tianna move in with you; it’ll be more convenient for her to look after you." Sharon Caldwell beamed at Lex Cross as if she were admiring her future son-in-law, pleased with everything she saw.

Tianna Bloom stood before Lex Cross, blushing and stomping her foot in feigned embarrassment. "Dad, Mom, what are you talking about! Moving in... We... we’re not in that kind of relationship yet!"

Sharon Caldwell patted her daughter’s hand lightly. "Oh, you silly girl! You two lived together back in Argent. Why are you acting so shy now about taking care of Lex?"

Flora Bloom, most of her body hidden behind Lex Cross’s tall frame, had yet to be noticed by the trio.

"It seems a lot happened after you went back to Argent."

Flora Bloom’s voice was youthful and clear, her tone betraying no emotion. But when she stepped out from behind Lex and stood before Tianna Bloom, Tianna, Stephen Bloom, and Sharon Caldwell all froze.

"Y-you... what are you doing here?" The coy smile on Tianna Bloom’s face vanished the instant she saw Flora Bloom.

"You little bitch! You’re still not dead?" The words had barely left Sharon Caldwell’s mouth when a bolt of lightning struck her squarely on the head. It wasn’t lethal, but since Sharon Caldwell had no superpower, her legs gave out the next second and she collapsed to the ground.

The culprit, Lex Cross, had already wrapped an arm around Flora Bloom and was heading for the isolation gate. Tianna Bloom scrambled to help Sharon Caldwell, checking her injuries with a worried expression before rushing to block Lex and Flora’s path.

"Flora Bloom, stop right there!"

Flora Bloom glanced at Lex Cross. "Where’s the thunder? Keep it coming."

RUMBLE! This time it wasn’t just a single bolt, but a dense net of lightning that descended from the sky, enveloping Tianna Bloom and causing her body to convulse uncontrollably.

"Hmph. I thought you’d be reluctant."

A handsome smile graced Lex Cross’s thin lips, and the arm around Flora Bloom tightened. "What are you talking about? I hardly know these three."

Lex Cross’s words made Stephen Bloom’s face darken. Behind them, Tianna Bloom, still trapped in the net of lightning, began to convulse even more violently.

"Lex Cross! You heartless, ungrateful man! My daughter came all this way because she was worried about you! It’s one thing to ignore her now that you have a new flame, but there’s no need to let someone else incite you to hurt her like this! After all, we were sent by your father to look after you!"

The villa district was no longer under the strict rules and constraints of Morgan Sterling’s time. The villas outside the isolation gate all had new masters, and the commotion here had drawn quite a few of them out to watch.

Five couldn’t stand it anymore. "I mean, how can a family be so shameless? You share the same last name, Bloom, yet the difference is night and day!" He then yelled over to Flora Bloom, "Sis-in-law, don’t listen to their nonsense! Our boss has been completely devoted to you from the start, and he’s been saving himself for you!"
