"Xiao Nian, I’m so happy!"
He had never, ever been this happy before!
Lu Cheng hugged Shen Nian tightly, as if wanting to absorb her into his very being. His heart was hammering at an unbelievable pace, but even so, he refused to let her go.
Especially after he felt Shen Nian’s arms wrap around his waist.
In truth, when he had first pulled Shen Nian into his arms, Lu Cheng had worried she might push him away or get angry.
But Shen Nian hadn’t pushed him away, nor was she angry. Instead, she had accepted him.
Even though Shen Nian had told him before that she was willing to slowly start accepting his affection, and even though she had given him a light hug when she saw him off, this feeling now was completely different!
Hearing Lu Cheng’s voice, Shen Nian smiled and tightened her arms around his waist again.
’It’s good that he’s happy! Actually, I’m pretty happy too! Seeing Lu Cheng here, being saved by him when I was in danger... I’m truly, really happy!’
After a long time, Shen Nian’s arms were beginning to feel a little sore before Lu Cheng gently let her go.
When Shen Nian looked up, she saw that Lu Cheng’s face was slightly flushed.
’He’s blushing! So Lu Cheng is this innocent!’
Shen Nian couldn’t help but think back to when she saw him off. ’Didn’t I hug him then, too? I wonder if he blushed that time!’
’Sigh, if I’d known, I wouldn’t have run off so quickly. I should have turned back to see what he looked like! What a shame!’
Evidently, Shen Nian had already forgotten how shy she herself had been after initiating that hug last time.

Being stared at by Shen Nian like this, the already blushing Lu Cheng grew even more embarrassed.
Shen Nian didn’t plan on teasing Lu Cheng. If she took it too far, he might revert to his old, cautious self, and that would be no good.
She much preferred Lu Cheng like this. It pained her to see him being so wary and careful around her.
"Your mission is over. Do you have to go back to your unit?"
"Yeah, I still need to go back and report on the situation."

"Come with me. My superior promised me a long leave after this mission. Then, we can go back home together."
"Okay!"
Shen Nian looked at Lu Cheng and nodded in agreement. She had been planning to visit him anyway. ’Isn’t it even better to go with him now?’
As for Lu Cheng’s long leave, Shen Nian had her own suspicions. ’He probably earned this leave from the mission... and he did it because he was worried about me being home alone!’
"What exactly happened on the train earlier?"
Although he had gotten the general gist of the situation from the railway police, Lu Cheng hadn’t known at the time that Shen Nian was the one who reported it. Now, of course, he wanted to understand things more clearly.
Shen Nian sighed. She knew it. Now that Lu Cheng was involved, even though the incident was over, he wasn’t going to let it go so easily.
So, Shen Nian could only obediently recount everything that happened on the train from beginning to end, including how she had deduced that those people were human traffickers.
"You were far too reckless! What if they had discovered you? If you ever encounter something like this again, you absolutely cannot take such a risk!"
Shen Nian hadn’t been expecting praise from Lu Cheng, but she got a lecture instead.
She couldn’t blame him. Just hearing her recount the story once was enough to make Lu Cheng’s heart pound in terror.
If he had been the one in that situation, he definitely would have taken action the moment he realized they were traffickers.
But the person in that situation was Shen Nian. How could it possibly be the same?
"But I wasn’t discovered, was I? Besides, aren’t I standing right here in front of you, perfectly fine? Those poor children... if I hadn’t done anything, they would have been trafficked for sure, and those criminals would only get more brazen in the future!"
"Even so, I need you to put your own safety first. If something happened to you, what would I do?"
Shen Nian looked at Lu Cheng. He was clearly a man of steel, yet she could hear a slight tremor in his voice as he spoke.
’He’s genuinely scared.’
"I know. I’ll be more careful in the future."
’Besides, the only reason I dared to be so bold was because I had my space to rely on. Still, the existence of the space is just too unbelievable. It’s better that Lu Cheng doesn’t find out.’
’It’s not that I don’t trust him; it’s to protect him.’
"After this long leave is over, you’re coming with me. I can’t rest easy unless you’re by my side!"
