Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Human Traffickers, Without a Doubt
Shen Nian kept comforting herself. ’The more urgent this gets, the less I can afford to be nervous or impatient. I absolutely have to come up with a foolproof plan!’
’If only Lu Cheng were here right now. He’d definitely be able to resolve this perfectly!’
As the thought crossed her mind, Shen Nian realized that Lu Cheng had, without her even noticing, come to occupy such an important place in her heart.
’No,’ she thought. ’Even if Lu Cheng isn’t by my side, I can’t be weak. I have to find the best way to handle this.’
She looked up at the middle-aged man across from her. After shouting at the little boy, he hadn’t said another word. He didn’t even glance in Shen Nian’s direction again, looking as if he were deliberately avoiding something.
As for the little boy who had been crying just moments before, he had, at some point, closed his eyes and fallen asleep.
’He was crying so pitifully just a moment ago, but now he’s fallen asleep this quickly?’ Shen Nian’s suspicions grew stronger.
She knew that human traffickers, fearing the children might expose them on the journey, often fed them sedatives. As long as the children slept through the trip, there was no risk of their identities being revealed.
The more she thought about it, the more Shen Nian felt she couldn’t delay any longer. ’If he gets off at the next stop, I’ll never be able to find him again!’
’I definitely can’t confront him head-on. I have to outsmart him. I need to find some help.’
’And I also need to figure out exactly how many accomplices he has on this train, and how many other abducted children there are.’
Just as Shen Nian was lost in thought, she saw the middle-aged man across from her stir.
He picked up the little boy, stood up, and after shooting Shen Nian a look, turned and headed toward the compartments at the front of the car.
Shen Nian knew that look was likely a warning.
But she couldn’t just ignore it.
After gathering her belongings, Shen Nian cautiously followed in the direction the middle-aged man had gone.
Shen Nian had already made up her mind. ’I won’t do anything directly. I’m just going to scout out the situation.’
’If I get discovered, at least I still have my pocket dimension. Worst case, I’ll just hide inside it to guarantee my own safety.’
The thought of having this personal dimension for protection put Shen Nian much more at ease.
Shen Nian followed cautiously, discovering that the man passed through several cars before finally stopping.
Shen Nian didn’t dare follow too closely for fear of being discovered. Fortunately, her hearing and sight were now much sharper than before, so even from a distance, she could see the middle-aged man speaking with several other people.
And beside them lay several other children, all around the same age as the little boy from before.
’There’s no doubt about it. These people are human traffickers! And there are a lot of them in this ring.’
’So many kidnapped children... Their parents must be worried sick!’
Shen Nian checked the time. It was about half an hour until the train’s next stop. She thought she’d faintly overheard them talking about getting off.
’So, if I’m going to do something, it has to be within the next half hour.’
Shen Nian glanced one more time at the group up ahead, memorizing their faces. Then, she carefully turned and quietly left the car.
