Chapter 47: Chapter 47: There Seems to Be a Sound Inside

Far from changing the onlookers’ attitudes, Qin Xueling’s words only managed to upset them.

"What nonsense are you spouting, girl! What favors could we possibly get from the Shen family? It’s obvious you’re the one who did something wrong, yet you refuse to admit it! How could our Shen Family Village ever produce a girl like you!"

Nobody likes being falsely accused, especially with police officers present. If they were framed for taking bribes to bear false witness, they would have nowhere to turn to plead their case.

And so, with that one angry remark, Qin Xueling managed to offend a whole group of people, effectively backing herself into a corner.

"Actually, it’s very simple to find out whether Qin Xueling is lying."

Shen Nian’s words instantly silenced the crowd.

"Nian, what did you say?"

"She’s the one who took my report card. We’ll know for sure if we search her house, won’t we? The officers are here right now, so none of us have to get involved. We can let the officers do the search. That way, the result will be beyond question. The officers don’t know either of us, so they won’t be biased."

"That’s a great idea!"

"That’s right! Let the officers search. That way, the culprit can’t hide, and no one can be framed!"

And just like that, Shen Nian’s proposal earned everyone’s approval. They were all still fuming from Qin Xueling’s unreasonable accusation, so having the police take charge was the perfect solution. Now, Qin Xueling wouldn’t be able to claim they’d been bribed!

"No, you can’t, you can’t!"

Qin Xueling was still vehemently protesting, but at this point, no one was paying any attention to her objections.

"Officers, that’s the situation. Please, go to her house and search to see if my report card was in fact stolen by Qin Xueling!"

The two police officers hesitated. They had only just arrived, and now they were being asked to conduct a search? And yet, the villagers were making so much sense that they felt they couldn’t refuse.

"Officers, just go search! With so many of us watching, there won’t be any problems!"

"That’s right! We’ll leave the door wide open so everyone can see what’s going on inside. It’ll be completely fair, just, and transparent!"

"Officers, my report card is in your hands now!"

"Officers, my sister’s future is in your hands!"

"Officers, my sister-in-law and my brother’s future happiness depends on you!"

The two officers looked at each other, bewildered. ’What in the world is going on? What does a couple’s future happiness have to do with us?’

’Still,’ they thought, ’if this girl really had her name dragged through the mud and her report card stolen... well, then it really *is* about her career and future happiness!’

"Alright, we’ll go take a look for you."

"Thank you, officers! Xiang Dong, Xiang Nan, show them the way."

When they heard the officers agree, everyone on Shen Nian’s side was delighted. Miao Cuifen was especially pleased, immediately telling the two brothers to lead the way, as if she were afraid the police wouldn’t be able to find a door that was right in front of their eyes.

"No! You can’t! You can’t come into my house! I forbid it!"

The two officers had just reached Qin Xueling’s front door when she suddenly rushed forward to block their path, refusing to let them in.

But these officers weren’t rookies. They had handled countless cases and had seen it all. Qin Xueling’s reaction told them everything they needed to know. ’She’s definitely hiding something in there,’ they thought. ’It might just be Shen Nian’s report card!’

Now, failing to conduct a search was simply not an option.

"We are conducting official business. Please cooperate..."

The officer had only gotten halfway through his sentence when he felt someone poking him from behind. Before he could turn around, he heard a voice.
