Chapter 260: Chapter 260: It Would Be More Respectful to Comply

"Well, about last time on the train... you gave my father a piece of ginseng root to save his life, didn’t you? Afterward, our family’s old Chinese medicine doctor said that the root was of excellent quality and greatly benefited my father’s health. I wanted to ask... do you happen to have any more?"

He Hongming didn’t know why Shen Nian would be carrying something so valuable on her person.

However, the fact that Shen Nian had been willing to unconditionally give his father such a precious item at such a critical moment was enough to make his entire family endlessly grateful to her.

He wasn’t trying to pry into Shen Nian’s secrets. He simply wanted to see if he could procure another item of such quality for his father.

After all, what Shen Nian had given them was only a single piece of ginseng root. Even using it as sparingly as possible, his elderly father had finished it long ago.

"So, Uncle He, you’re asking if I have any more of that kind of ginseng?"

Shen Nian felt troubled. She had already promised Lu Cheng not to reveal the items from her space, but she never expected to run into He Hongming here.

"Xiao Nian, I know my request is a bit presumptuous, but if you do have more, the He Family is willing to buy it from you at a high price."

Shen Nian shook her head. "It’s not a matter of price. That ginseng was a gift from my master. He’s an old, wandering Chinese medicine doctor, and he’s incredibly elusive—even I can’t find him most of the time. So, I’m not sure if he has any more of it."

Shen Nian couldn’t agree, but she didn’t want to refuse him outright either. So, she simply brought up her mysterious master once again.

"I see! Well, I suppose there’s nothing to be done then."

He Hongming was a little disappointed to hear this, but since he hadn’t gotten his hopes up in the first place, he didn’t press the issue.

"I’ll tell you what, if I happen to run into my master, I’ll ask him for you. He’s always roaming around in deep mountains and ancient forests, so he stumbles upon rare things every now and then."

Shen Nian said this to dispel any suspicions He Hongming’s family might have. After all, if she herself could find ginseng on a mountain, it wouldn’t be strange for her master to dig up a top-grade specimen in some deep, ancient forest.

"I’m sorry to trouble you. Really, we were the ones being presumptuous. A treasure like that isn’t something one can get just by asking! Still, Xiao Nian, you were incredibly generous. We were complete strangers, yet you offered something so precious without a second thought."

"The elderly gentleman’s condition was critical at the time. If that piece of ginseng root could save a life, isn’t that far more worthwhile than if one of us healthy people used it?"

"Haha, if only everyone in the world thought like you, Xiao Nian!"

Shen Nian just smiled. She didn’t care what other people thought or did; she just had to stick to her own convictions. ’I was only able to be reborn because of Master. Now, I have to inherit his final wish, carry on his medical arts, and save and help more people.’

"Oh, by the way, Xiao Nian, you two don’t have a place to stay tonight, do you? Why don’t you just stay at our home?"

"That’s not necessary, thank you. We’ll just find a hotel for the night."

Seeing Shen Nian decline, He Hongming didn’t press the matter. "Well, in that case, please let me arrange a place for you to stay. This, at least, you can’t refuse, Xiao Nian."

"Alright then. We’ll graciously accept."

Shen Nian didn’t refuse this time. After all, she and her brother weren’t familiar with the provincial capital, so letting a local like He Hongming make the arrangements would be much safer.
