Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Doing Well for Yourself
"Xiao Nian, why isn’t Lu Cheng coming back with us?"
Miao Cuifen asked as she looked at Shen Nian. She was truly quite satisfied with Lu Cheng as a son-in-law. The issues with her family had clearly had nothing to do with him, yet he had still been busy running around to help.
Even the car for the ride home had been arranged by Lu Cheng.
Never mind how much it cost; at the very least, they could all feel his thoughtfulness.
So, seeing that Lu Cheng wasn’t returning with them, Miao Cuifen was naturally a little concerned.
"It’s fine, Mom. He has some business in the county seat. We’ll head back first, and he’ll come pick me up later."
Although Lu Cheng hadn’t told Shen Nian what he was going to do, he had whispered some instructions in her ear before leaving. He told her not to rush back to the Lu Family home and that he would be over to pick her up in a bit.
As for what Lu Cheng was going to do, Shen Nian didn’t press him for details. ’Everyone’s entitled to a few secrets, right?’ Besides, much of Lu Cheng’s work required confidentiality.
So, she decided it was better not to put him in a difficult position and simply refrain from asking anything.
’Anyway, if Lu Cheng wanted me to know, he would tell me himself.’
"As long as everything is okay. In that case, I’ll get some things ready for you two to take back with you."
"Okay."
Shen Nian didn’t refuse, because she knew that even if she did, Miao Cuifen would still prepare things anyway. She was used to it by now. Every time she visited her parents, she ended up taking a pile of things back home with her.

After parting ways with Shen Nian and her family, Lu Cheng headed straight for the county seat.
However, he didn’t go anywhere else; he went straight to the county police station.
"Brother Lu, what brings you here?"
After Lu Cheng had someone at the police station entrance notify the person he was looking for, it wasn’t long before a young man came running out from inside towards him.
The look on his face was one of obvious surprise and delight at Lu Cheng’s arrival.
"I had something to take care of and came to ask for your help."
"Brother Lu, you’re being too formal! What’s all this talk of ’help’ between us? Just tell me what you need."
Wang Chenglei said, then pulled Lu Cheng inside the police station.
"Come on, come on, Brother Lu. Let’s go inside first and talk things over. It’s been so long since we last saw each other; we really need to catch up."
Lu Cheng glanced at the office Wang Chenglei led him to. Having an office like this in the county police station was enough to show that Wang Chenglei had done quite well for himself over the years.
"Looks like you’ve really made something of yourself these past few years!"
"Heh, I’m just a lowly captain, barely making a living. We haven’t seen each other since we parted ways back then. It’s such a rare chance to meet again, so you have to give me the opportunity to host you properly!"
Wang Chenglei was someone Lu Cheng had met when he first started working. However, Wang Chenglei only stayed at the company for a short time before leaving. He then used some connections to get into a local police department. Coincidentally, he was assigned to the very one in Lu Cheng’s hometown.
After being transferred, Wang Chenglei had even made a point to send word to Lu Cheng. That’s why, when Lu Cheng needed this matter handled, Wang Chenglei was the first person who came to mind.
"There will be plenty of opportunities in the future. There’s no rush for today."
"That’s true. Well then, Brother Lu, what is it you need me to do?"
Wang Chenglei was quite confident he could handle whatever Lu Cheng needed help with. After all, he was now a captain in the county police station. Besides the director and deputy director, he was pretty much the one calling the shots.
As long as it wasn’t anything too major, he could certainly guarantee results.
"It’s nothing too difficult, and for you, it should be no problem at all. I just need you to keep an eye on a few people, and protect a few others."
