Chapter 195: Chapter 195: Maternal Grandfather is Gravely Ill
The urgent shout for Shen Nian clearly came from Shen Xiangnan.
And unlike the last time Lu Xinyue had come to the Shen family home looking for her, Shen Xiangnan’s voice held an obvious urgency—and even a touch of fear.
Shen Nian and Lu Cheng hurried out of their room to find Shen Xiangnan standing in the living room, his eyes red and his face fraught with anxiety.
Even Lu Xinyue, who usually couldn’t resist taking a jab at Shen Xiangnan whenever she saw him, couldn’t bring herself to tease him now. Seeing him like this, she instead started to feel a little worried herself.
"What happened, Xiangnan? Why are you in such a panic?"
"Sister, we got a message from the Miao family. They said Grandpa is seriously ill and wants us all to come home. From the sound of it, it doesn’t look good. Mom, Dad, and Big Brother have already left. They sent me to get you so we can go together."
’Shen Xiangnan hadn’t expected their first meeting after learning the truth about Shen Nian’s parentage to be under these circumstances. But right now, he couldn’t afford to dwell on that. Grandpa’s condition was what mattered most.’
Shen Nian grew anxious as soon as she heard. She hadn’t seen any of her other relatives since her rebirth.
Although some of her relatives from the Miao family were certainly eccentric, her grandfather had always been very good to her growing up. Of course she was worried to hear he was seriously ill.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s hurry!"
As she spoke, Shen Nian pulled Shen Xiangnan to leave, afraid that any delay would be too late.
However, she had only taken two steps before Lu Cheng pulled her back.
"Don’t rush."
After saying this to Shen Nian, Lu Cheng turned to Lu Xinyue.
"Xinyue, you stay and watch the house. When Mom and Dad get back, let them know I’m going with your sister-in-law."
"Okay, Brother, Sister-in-law. You two go. I’ll take care of things at home!"
Lu Cheng nodded at Lu Xinyue, then took Shen Nian’s hand and led her out the door.
With Lu Cheng there, they wouldn’t be rushing about blindly like Shen Xiangnan had when he ran over. Lu Cheng took Shen Nian and Shen Xiangnan to find a car in town to take them to Miao Village, where the Miao family lived.
While the Lu Family and the Shen family homes weren’t far from each other, the Miao family lived quite a bit farther away.
If they had tried to run the whole way, who knows when they would have actually gotten there!
The car was fast, and they reached Miao Village in just over an hour. After the three of them got out at the village entrance, they happened to see Shen Jian Country, Miao Cuifen, and Shen Xiangdong just arriving as well. It was perfect timing; the whole family had met up at the entrance.
"Xiao Nian, Xiangnan, how did you get here so quickly?"
The group of three had come by bicycle. They had assumed that Shen Nian and her brother would take their time, so they never expected them to arrive even earlier.
"Brother-in-law found a car to bring us over."
"Lu Cheng, we’ve troubled you again."
"It’s no trouble. We should go see how Grandpa is doing first."
"Yes, yes, let’s hurry."
Just as they reached the entrance to the Miao family home, they heard a commotion inside. Clearly, quite a few people had already arrived.
Shen Nian frowned. ’The whole family is here,’ she thought. ’Grandpa’s condition must be really bad.’
"Well, well, Cuifen’s family finally decided to show up. I thought you wouldn’t make it here until tomorrow at the earliest!"
The speaker was Guo Chunxiang, Shen Nian’s eldest aunt on her mother’s side. She had visited the Shen family before, but the marriage she tried to arrange had been a failure. As a result, she’d been forced to return the gifts she’d received, and she had been harboring resentment against the Shen family ever since.
So now that she saw the whole Shen family, she naturally wasn’t wearing a pleasant expression, and her tone was just as sour.
"Sister-in-law, how is Dad?"
Miao Cuifen was in no mood to pay attention to Guo Chunxiang’s nasty words. Right now, she only wanted to know one thing: how was her father?
